  • ‣MINI-SODE 1: Rocketman

    09/06/2019

We’re postponing our next full show until next weekend, but we’re always prepared to chat about films! In a podcast exclusive, Nick gives his thoughts on the Elton John biopic Rocketman, still showing in cinemas. Following on from his savage take on Bohemian Rhapsody, how does Rocketman compare? Does the film take a different approach to the tired biopic formula? Both Nick and Marcus will be back for a new full-length episode next week! • ‣EPISODE 17: John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum & Glass

    26/05/2019

We’ve got a double-bill of trilogy-cappers on the show this week. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum sees the return of our favourite retired assassin for two hours of finely choreographed violence. Can this third entry match the intensity of the previous two? For that matter, what did we think of the second one? All will be revealed! Meanwhile, Glass is the surprise conclusion to the story M Night Shyamalan began telling in 2000’s Unbreakable, and continued telling in 2016’s Split. This latest instalment features Bruce Willis, James McAvoy and Samuel L Jackson facing off against each other in a big showdown that is sure to excite…right? As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and retail charts, and our Take Five movie quiz. • ‣EPISODE 16: Long Shot and Holmes & Watson

    12/05/2019

It’s a comedy double-bill this week. First up is the latest cinematic offering from Seth Rogen, Long Shot, which co-stars Charlize Theron. The film is a departure from the usual Rogen antics, but is that enough to recommend this particular rom-com? Available to rent is Holmes & Watson, a universally condemned parody starring Will Ferrel and John C. Reilly. The knives were out for this movie when it hit the box office at Christmas time. But, hey, maybe it’s actually good? As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and retail charts, and our Take Five movie quiz. ---------------------------------- Copyright Sunshine Hospital Radio 2019. • ‣EPISODE 15: Eighth Grade & Aquaman

    28/04/2019

It’s time to give our thoughts on the biggest cinematic release of the weekend. The film everyone’s been waiting for: Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade! This comedic character piece is sure to set the box office aflame with its touching portrayal of modern-day early adolescence, especially with absolutely nothing else competing for your attention. #DontSpoilTheEighthGrade And, because we had to squeeze in a superhero movie somewhere, Aquaman is our to-rent review this week. After briefly talking about it last episode, it’s time to dive in to explore just how ridiculous this movie is. But maybe that’s a good thing? As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and retail charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz. • Shazam! & Ralph Breaks the Internet

    14/04/2019

We review a superhero version of Big this week, with Shazam (audible exclamation mark). The movie’s been a big financial success already, but does it offer anything new to the genre, and is it as fun as it looks? New to own/rent this week is Ralph Breaks The Internet, the sequel to 2014’s Wreck-It Ralph. We rated the original quite highly, and called it “very smartly plotted”. Does this sequel earn the same description? As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and retail charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz. • Us & Creed II

    31/03/2019

After the excellent Get Out, Jordan Peele returns to cinemas with Us, another horror film with creepy imagery and big issues on its mind. Lupita Nyong’o and her family face off against their doppelgangers, but will this film leave Nick and Marcus in two minds? Creed II is our at-home review, with everyone from the first film returning, along with Dolph Lundgren as Ivan Drago. The first Creed was the perfect example of how to reinvigorate an old series, but does this sequel run the risk of following the previous Rocky sequels into mediocrity? As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and retail charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz. • Captain Marvel & Free Solo

    17/03/2019

The first big Marvel movie of 2019 is here, with their first female lead. In our review of Captain Marvel, Nick promises to keep his fanboy tendencies in check and give a proper examination of the film’s pros and cons. Out to rent and buy is the mountain climbing documentary Free Solo. You’d think based on the clip we have that this’d be a comparatively relaxing watch, but it’s a nail-biting experience which sees climber Alex Honnold attempting to scale the face of El Capitan with NO ROPES. Who needs Spider-Man when you can see the real thing? As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and retail charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz. • Fighting With My Family & Smallfoot

    03/03/2019

We’ve got a pair of family-friendly comedies for you this week. Out now at cinemas is Fighting With My Family (13m39s), which tells the true story of WWE wrestler Paige’s road to stardom. Written and directed by Stephen Merchant, does the film prove an attractive prospect to non-fans of the sport? New to rent is CGI animation Smallfoot (28m13s), which stars the voices of Channing Tatum, James Corden and Zendaya (is Meechee). The film is also notable for having the worst clip we’ve ever played on the program. Can it redeem itself with the remaining 88 minutes of its running time? As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz (20m26s). • The Lego Movie 2 & A Star Is Born

    17/02/2019

This week sees the release of the sequel to one of our favourite films: The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part (13m47s)! It’s difficult to imagine how it can possibly stand up the quality of the original, but our faith in Phil Lord and Chris Miller runs very, very deep. For our home review, we finally get to share our long-form opinion on the 2018 version of A Star Is Born (27m39s), starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. The film made our Top Ten of 2018, but does it still work on the small screen? As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz (21m28s). • Can You Ever Forgive Me? & The Predator

    03/02/2019

Melissa McCarthy returns to screens with an Oscar-nominated performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, our cinema review this week (13m51s). The film also stars an Oscar-nominated Richard E Grant in a boozy role that harkens back to his Withnail & I days. This week’s to-rent review looks at a VERY different film. The Predator (26m30s), directed and co-written by action-comedy maestro Shane Black (who also starred in the original). Critics and audiences alike weren’t kind about this new entry in the franchise, but when has that ever stopped us in the past? Maybe it’s good, actually? Listen to find out! As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz (20m27s). • Stan & Ollie and American Animals

    20/01/2019

Our big cinema review this week is the crowd-pleasing Stan & Ollie (14m15s), about the similarly crowd-pleasing double-act Laurel & Hardy. Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly star in the titular roles. Is this the feel-good movie of the year? Already? In January? New to rent is American Animals (29m58s), a new docu-drama from the director of The Imposter. This is the gripping true story of four college students that planned to turn their lives into a real-life heist movie. Our review features the first disagreement between Nick and Marcus for quite some time. How do they each feel about the film? Listen to find out! As always, there’s also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz (20m36s). • Mary Poppins Returns & Top Ten of 2018

    06/01/2019

Mary Poppins returns in… Mary Poppins Returns, our cinematic review this week (14m08s). Emily Blunt takes the title role this time, joined by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Paddington’s Ben Whishaw. Does the new cast have what it takes to revive the stories for modern times? Can it possibly match the magic of the original? And, as we enter the new year, it’s time to take a look back at the one we’ve just had with our Top Ten Films of 2018 (26m31s). Our picks span a range of genres and certificates, and there’s something great for everyone. As always, there's also the latest movie news and the UK box office chart of the year. • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse & Mission: Impossible – Fallout

    16/12/2018

We check back in with two of our favourites this week. Our first review is the vivid animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (20m29s), a movie featuring more Spider-Men than you can count one hand! But can a film support that many Spiders-Man? Meanwhile, Tom Cruise is back for his sixth performance as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible - Fallout (35m09s), new to rent. Breaking his ankle in that video is just the tip of iceberg when it comes to his stunts in this latest entry! As always, there's also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz (29m11s). • Robin Hood & Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

    02/12/2018

Here’s a brand new episode for your ears! This week’s cinema review is franchise-starter-hopeful Robin Hood (12m22s). Word of mouth for this film has been…not kind, but that’s never stopped us from reviewing films in the past! Is it as bad as the critical consensus suggests, or does it present a welcome fresh take on the classic tale? A bad critical consensus would never stop a film like Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, our to-rent review this week (26m57s). The entire cast from the first returns for this sequel (with some newcomers too) for more fun, more sun, and much more ABBA songs. And our 60-second review feature has a new name, For Your Consideration! This week, with a handy Jamie Foxx and Lily James link, Nick gives us a quick look at Baby Driver (34m25s). As always, there's also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz (20m11s). • Widows & Incredibles 2

    18/11/2018

It’s a perfect mix of shade and light on this week’s show. Our first review is Steve McQueen and Gillian Flynn’s film adaptation of Linda LaPlante’s Widows (15m13s), a slick but dark crime thriller starring Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez and Elizabeth Debicki. As a nice contrast, Pixar is back with another sequel. The follow-up to the beloved Incredibles is available to rent (29m16s). Can this second entry in the series possibly stand up to the quality of the first? Listen to find out! As always, there's also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our Take Five movie quotes quiz (23m06s). • Bohemian Rhapsody & Sicario 2: Soldado

    04/11/2018

We review one of the most-hyped releases of the year this week. Bohemian Rhapsody (14m00s) tells the story of how Freddie Mercury and Queen rose to incredible heights of fame and fortune, but does it tell the true story? Nick has…misgivings… Meanwhile, we return to Mexico with Sicario 2: Soldado, our to-rent review (32m46s) We enjoyed the original (if “enjoy” is the right word), but how does the sequel compare? As always, there's also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our Take Five movie quiz (26m03s), this week featuring famous movie quotes and more astounding accents from Marcus. • First Man & Hereditary

    21/10/2018

It’s an intense episode this week, with three films that’ll have you on the edge of your seat! Our First Review is First Man (12m11s), the story of how Neil Armstrong (portrayed by Ryan Gosling) came to be the first man to walk on the Moon. Our to-rent review looks at the hair-raising horror Hereditary (27m05s), which has been favourably compared to The Exorcist. Staying with the alternative horror theme, Nick takes a quick look at Get Out in our What Have We Missed feature (35m22s). As always, there's also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our Take Five movie quiz (19m50s), this week featuring famous movie quotes and more astounding accents from Marcus. • Night School & Solo: A Star Wars Story

    07/10/2018

We’re back! Fresh-faced, fresh-voiced and raring to go! We ease back into the reviewing swing by taking a look at the hit Night School (13m56s), the only comedy to top the UK box office this year so far, and then check out franchise spin-off Solo: A Star Wars Story (28m02s). If that weren’t enough, we’re acknowledging our long absence with a new feature, simply titled: What Have We Missed? This week, we’re sticking with a Star Wars theme, and catching up with The Last Jedi (38m08s). As always, there's also the latest movie news, box office and rental charts, and our esteemed Take Five movie quiz (20m39s), this week featuring famous opening lines.
