#21 - Andy Torbet on being fit for adventure and racing a peregrine falcon in a sky dive
07/08/2019 Duración: 01h11minToday’s is a very special episode. We have Andy Torbet as a guest in the HY3RID podcast den….a privilege and experience that no-one else has yet experienced. Andy is a real-life action man…sky diving, cave diving, tv presenting, stunt manning. One of Andy’s interesting facts is that he once raced a peregrine falcon in a sky dive. The only way he could win this was to strap rockets to himself to propel himself faster. In this episode we discuss Andy’s training history, his extensive injury list and how he manages his training and work around them. Andy needs to be able to get up and perform in his job every day, one day it could be hiking 20 miles with kit to get to a place to dive the next day. If he is constantly beaten up from training, he can’t do his job. We talk through what “fit for adventure” means and looks like in a practical sense to Andy. For more information about Andy, you can check out his instagram @andy_torbet and his website https://andytorbet.com

#17 - Interview with Gregg Slater on Nutrition Periodisation (and why dinosaurs are shit)
10/07/2019 Duración: 54minToday's episode is especially exciting to us. We are lucky enough to be joined by Gregg Slater, Head of Education at Lift the Bar. We discuss everything from why dinosaurs are excellent through to nutritional periodisation. The evidence shows that the vast majority of people who undertake a diet end up no better or worse off three years down the line. Gregg introduces the concept of nutritional periodisation and why it can be useful to think of nutrition as being a bit like training in some ways. We discuss diet fatigues, the usefulness of taking diet breaks and why exercise is terrible for losing but excellent for keeping it off! For more on this, check out the guys at habitry (https://habitry.com) We are very lucky to have to opportunity to train multiplayer most of the time, but we also discuss what motivates us and strategies we use when we aren't necessarily motivated or if we have to train single player. Specialisation...What a TERRIBLE Idea
24/04/2019 Duración: 28minSpecialisation.... focussing on one specific area of training or sport. This is essential if you want to become very good at one particular thing...but the majority of people would benefit from adopting a variety of training modalities and playing many different sports. Early specialisation for children, other than one or two sports such as gymnastics is probably a terrible idea, as they miss out on the opportunity to develop a wide range of physical attributes and become very good generalists before specialising a little bit later. The same goes for adults when it comes to training. Prioritisation to a specific goal is important but training should be multi-faceted including aspects of skill work, strength, mobility, conditioning, bodybuilding etc. Listen here to find out why.

Protein Cakes.... What a TERRIBLE IDEA!
17/04/2019 Duración: 18minProducts containing protein are everywhere these days.... protein cake, protein crisps, protein cereal. An excellent idea, no!? Actually for the most part these are a really terrible idea. Anything marked with extra protein tends to get a health halo, but should this really be the case? We don't think so. We also enlighten you on the Ultimate Rating system....prepare to have you world rocked.
-
Foam Rolling... What a terrible idea!
10/04/2019 Duración: 18minFoam rolling, or self myofascial release... essential for ironing out those muscles before training and aligning the muscle fibres, or not worth the time? It's a normal sight to see in the gym, foam rolling for half an hour to help warm up those muscles before training, but is it actually effective? In this episode of What a Terrible Idea, we delve into the ins and outs of foam rolling, and when it may actually be useful to do.
-
Drinking Regular Coke...What a terrible idea!
03/04/2019 Duración: 24minWith so much mis-information, partially quoted studies, poorly conducted studies etc. in the media about sugar and artificial sweeteners, it's no wonder everyone gets confused. Everything will cause you cancer if you believe everything in the tabloid newspapers. However, whilst the evidence may not be complete, what we can conclude from the current evidence is that artificial sweeteners are generally safe for human consumption. Here's a few studies to back this up: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4899993/ https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0278691517302818 However, we do know conclusively that eating too many calories leads to a whole host of health problems, and most people are increasingly struggling to control their weight...so drinking regular coke when there is a kcal free option available is a terrible idea.

Bro Splits...what a TERRIBLE idea!
