ON this episode of Fishing with Son of a Hillbilly - Scott takes us through a variety of techniques, rigs and baits to catch big catfish!  Inspired by his brothers recent trip for some overnight catfish fun, Scott takes you through some of the ways that a mess of cats ranging from 2 - 25 pounds were caught. In this episode I give you some of my best bluegill techniques for fishing strip mine pits.  These pits are very prevalent in the mid-west area and I am sure that they are in other as well. These goldmine for slab sided bluegills and other panfish are an easy place to hit it big.  I cover what I used to do, the rigs I used and just were to look for the fish in these waters. There are many lures out there and most of them will fall into these types of lures. These are the backbone of bass fishing. These categories have caught more bass than anything out there! What a great weekend and I didn’t even get on a lake.  When the weather isn’t right for fishing (and I am not much of an ice fisherman) I am looking to attend events, shop for gear, make gear or just get involved in something that is fishing related.  The event and temps made it the perfect weekend for that.  With temps below zero and the wind chill hitting around -25 the idea of attending a warm sports shows was very inviting!  The 2016 Minnesota Sportsmen’s Show January 14-17th sounded like just the ticket.  It was held in St. Paul at the River Center.  I give you and overview and review of the event and the pros and cons from my point of view.  Listen and enjoy!

We were fishing the Mississippi back waters around Fountain , WI.  This area is border water between Minnesota and Wisconsin.  I live in Minnesota so it wasn't to bad of a drive to get there.
