Bit Storm

As has been tradition for a few years now, Ben and Trevor have trawled the depths of Dark Steam on the Dark Web to find their favourite underground games of the year, including:a VR improv theatre game involving a plunger;a game about building your castle on wheels;a hive-mind bringing in new members;and more!

Ben and Trevor brewak from tradition this year and record the Christmas episode remotely, due to illness. The Christmas themed games of course include the regular list of characters, such as Santa, Canta and Mr Claus, but also feature such ideas as:Create a safari park, while trying to find the many hidden reindeersDesign your own robot SantaPlay lots of mini games trying to win the incredible opportunity to meet Santa at the north poleHold the fort while the other elves hold an intervention for Santa.

Ben and Trevor go back to What 3 Words for some prompts, riffing on ideas such as:a DNA sequencing house builder;working behind the counter at a cyberpunk body modification facility;winning a bodybuilding contest that has been in decline for years;and more!

Ben had the brilliant idea of hopping on the streamer wagon this week, so Ben and Trev came up with ideas that streamers would hopefully love to play. The games discussed included a bunch of friendslop, but also some banger such as:A handyman fixing random things in a haunted mansionA geoguesser inspired game where you must navigate your way out of a randomly generated worldA friendly fishing game with random encounters along the way.

Ben and Trevor riff on some more movies, coming up with ideas such as:a thriller set in the desert of New Mexico starring Peter Dinklage;a man thinks he's a cartoon;discovering the secret behind the new household robot;and more!

Trev has been playing a lot of Amanda the Adventurer, and even roped Ben into playing. Saying that this episode is a deep dive into an Amanda the Adventurer style creepy media game. Set in the 1980's, Ben and Trev discuss the many ways a text adventure could be a completely immersive experience.

From movies come video games! Ben and Trevor take random movie titles and descriptions and riff on some game ideas such as:A point and click adventure where you are stuck with a fairly dumb ghost;A romantic story about becoming an assassin;A tri-dimensional story told via different mediums;and more!

Ben and Trev once again delve into turning regular old movies into terrible mashup movie tie-ins. The games discussed were:Investigate the many murders on the interstellar Ark ship while reconnecting with your estranged son.Experience 3 stories set in a restaurant with different styles of gameplayInvestigate the murder of your brother as a substitute teacher.

Ben and Trevor continue their spooky theme with some more scary movie prompts! They come up with games such as:a visual novel about controlling the emotions inside the head of an obsessive eSports fanatic;a game with a PS2 aesthetic about a tidal wave of blob fish;and more!

It's the Spooky Season once again and Ben and Trevor take some non horror movies and turn them into some spooky horror games. The games discussed included:An assassin trying to protect his target from a serial killer after a luxury cruise liner was shipwrecked.A daily commute gradually turns spooky over multiple days.

Ben and Trevor take some random movies and riff on them until they become video games! This time they come up with games such as:play as the bumbling bartender companion to super spy Jane Bond;wander through the wasteland as a mercenary who says Yes to everything;discover a mystery laid out by a psychic;and more!

Ben and Trev once again braved the wild crowds at PAX and recorded a podcast, high above the handheld and jackbox areas of PAX. They discuss games that should really belong at PAX had they ever been made. The games discussed this year are:A generational colony ship arrives at a planet that has already been colonised many years before thanks to evolved technologyA lazy river trek turns dangerous on the trip backA sentient battery must ensure it can stay charged through an adventure.

Ben and Trevor were kindly invited to PAUCKS, the Dark Web focused game expo as part of Melbourne International Games Week, and they took a look at a bunch of games!Just to mention a few:Super Sexy Cricket NitroTiger Woods Gnome DancersRoyal Hammer of Furyand more!

Ben and Trev once again utilise random movies to come up with movie tie in games, that either don't tie in, or tie in around as loose as many of the 90's SNES era games do at least. The games discussed were:Protect cattle from from Dracula'sNavigate the exciting world of stand up comedy as two teenage girls in a Life is Strange esque adventureInvestigate the recent spate of wealthy billionaires donating all their money to charity... oh and the murder that also occurred.

Ben and Trev spend the entire episode on a late night fever dream of Ben's. The game discussed is very Roottrees are dead and Return of the Obra Dinn inspired, but involving super heroes and super villains, and uncovering their secret identities.

With Ben and Trev driving to a relaxing weekend away with friends, they realised they hadn't yet recorded this weeks podcast. They discuss wonderful game ideas while Ben drives the car and Trev sits idly by. Ben and Trevor use the release of Silksong as a prompt to create some classic platformers and metroidvanias, using random movies as a prompt. Discover games such as:Garfield - the MegaDrive/Genesis 90s platformer,The Cable Guy - a metroidvania with inspiration from Metroid Dredd,Ghost World - a game about discovering your ghostly abilities to unlock further levels,and more!

With 2nd Brackey's Game Jam just having finished for 2025, Ben and Trev take the theme of the jam and discuss some game ideas incorporating the theme. The theme for this year was "Risk it for the Biscuit." The games discussed include:A Grant Grover adventure game investigating counterfeit augments.A game set in the Tower of Babylon.A precision platformer with a retry mechanic.

Ben and Trevor are exploring the idea of sharing information in games via websockets, and so this week are taking What 3 Words and combining them with that idea. The result is games such as:playing a platformer where one of you is an impostersolving a mystery in a deduction game where you can only communicate via scrapbookingan asymmetrical multiplayer game where one person control the weatherand more!

Ben once again invited Trev over to discuss games that don't exist in his office. They utilised a random movie generator to prompt the game ideas. The various ideas discussed were:A game where 7 hackers must work together, meanwhile there is a traitor within their midst.Multiple cartoons are birthed by a village in a horror adventure.A third person game where you play multiple characters, one of which turns out to be a serial killer.
