Dad's Movie Night

So we blanked out and watched Blankman! The hero origin story of epic proportions co-staring a young Robin Givens just a few years after her dream-like marriage to one Mike Tyson. Neil and I were 'worried' as per usual but I have to say that this time Brian delivered a GEM!

Let's go to the swamp! We watched Swamp Thing! conflicted? Yes, Entertained? Absolutely. A Good movie? wellllllll..... at least we were entertained. Brian Chose this one because of his love of all things swampy and Swamp Thing did not disappoint! 

thank you Neil for this pallet cleanser! We had to pay attention for the entire movie this time because.... subtitlesb but it was fun! Both Brian and Pete had never seen this former Sundance Movie Festival winner from 1993 and it's $7K production cost and boy did we miss out! If you have not seen this movie you should. Is it a 'great film', no. Are you rooting for it anyways? Yes, yes you are. 

I had no idea this movie existed. Brian brought this one to the plate and thought it would be a great idea if Neil and I had our kids watch it with us for the first time. It was an experience to say the least! Our kids had some very strong opinions about it and couldn't wait to share with you.

Are you ready to win the Powder 8? Well, we weren't.... Talk about not remembering vast swaths of this movie. We went in thinking it was going to be a light-hearted romp down memory lane (which it kinda was at first). But it got dark, real dark. Then it was great again because... movie magic. This one hit a lot of the big nostalgia moments for us. Give this a rating of NarNar-PowPow

En Guard! Ah ha! Take that! And that! Swords! Swashbuckling! Brat Pack attack! Yes ladies and gents we watch The Three Musketeers! This Disney "classic" was a romp down 90's nostalgia for all three of the Dadketeers. What fun and it was so wonderful to be able to watch a film with absolutly no historical accuracy at all lolzzzz. skibidi sigma

Happy Halloween everyone! From the team here at DMN we present to you an almost scary TV movie from the late 70s that Pete was willing to watch (because he said "I think I can handle this amount of scary"). Salem's Lot was an interesting choice because of the fact it was a TV mini-series that had to conform to ratings standards for broadcast TV. As a result, Pete on had nightmares for 2 days! The kid tapping outside the second floor window ....

The 80s were a magical time for teenage monster romcoms. We had so many questions on this charming, but weird, take on the vampire genre.

Oh boy do we love a good Michael Keaton movie. The man is a gosh darn national treasure! Which version of "Doug" did you like best? 

Pete has been clamoring to rewatch this movie for years and the podcast finally relented (only because we had to draw out of a hat)... This movie has everything and all from the mind of Brian's "favorite" director Terry Gilliam. We also had a special guest, the one and only Alice! 

Kevin Kline was on top of the world in the late 80s and early 90s. He's a gosh darn national treasure. Only the likes of Sigourney Weaver could outdo him here! 

We asked the kids to join us for the first time and get their thoughts on a movie we did in our first season! This movie and the kid's reactions were an absolute joy! 

I was a skeptic. I shouldn't have been. Man, Leslie Neilson was a comedic genius. This was a surprise. And don't call me Shirley.

How can we resist your charms, Mr. Hanks? Short answer.... We can't! One of the more underrated Tom Hanks movies and this one did not disappoint! So many great moments that I had forgotten about. Enjoy!

The original pilot episode and we were joined by Pete's brother Mikey! This was one of Mikey's FAVORITE shows of his youth. Did it hold up? You be the judge! Pete, Brian, and Neil were definitely on board with this choice

Carl Weathers was one of the best action heroes of the silver screen in our youth. Who could forget Apollo Creed or Dillon? Epic stuff right there. This movie, however..... was not any of those. It was a wild entertaining ride that the three of us are still trying to figure out if we were left wanting more... or just wanting something else. But man, it was a FUN ride!

This might be one of those movies that you MUST watch and implore your children to watch when they are old enough. Thanks to Neil for getting us to put this one on the pod. You'll laugh at the absurdity, you'l cry at the themes that are even more relevant today than ever. 5 Stars

So. Many. Questions....A fantasy romp that wasn't allowed to credit Robin Williams because his agents didn't want his named to be used to "pimp their film". This was a wild, wonky, donkey ride of epic proportions. Not sure if we are recommending it or just want you to see it so we can ask you our questions.Amazing set design and the always amazing Uma Thurman bring this story more gravitas than we expected. 

It's always night time. It's dark. It's a city. If aliens were incompetent and didn't know how to research or cite their sources. Brian came up with this one and to be honest it was a hoot! Weird, fun overacting, and a patina of earnestness that was refreshing. Was it good? Did it hold up? Should it be rebooted? hmmmmm......

Weirdly accurate and one heck of a ride. The dads were on their best behavior because Brian's dad KIRBY was here!! This movie had everything except coherency... and we almost kinda wanted to like it.
