  • Episode 33 (Pay Up, Mitch)

    27/01/2019 Duración: 01h23min

3 very different lives (one of science, one of spirituality, and one of debauchery) are thrown together by fate and a phone call to record this very first episode of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast for 2019. There is talk of new releases. The boys answer listener voicemail where Tyler of Face Command asks about dickheads in the metal scene and how to navigate around them in a tense political climate. There is also discussion of what is to come in the realm of metal in 2019. As always, Jez hasn't read the emails, Tain goes on tangents and Gary mentions Revenge. Plus, Mitch owes Jez big time. Here is the interview with Ray Ahn of the Hard Ons that we discuss in this episode: https://www.abc.net.au/doublej/music-reads/features/hard-ons-rose-tattoo-angry-anderson-ray-ahn/10714398 The DTABM theme song is, as always, by Smithy.

  • Episode 32 (End of Year Bumper Issue feat. Drop Jive)

    23/12/2018 Duración: 01h35min

The term "bumper issue" gets thrown about the DTABM studio with reckless abandon oftentimes. However, these words have never been as poignant as they are when used to describe episode 32, the final episode of the podcast for 2018. Abandoning the convoluted, scripted skits for a more casual and conversational vibe, the DTABM pelicans talk about some of their favourite metal releases of 2018, their favourite gigs of the year, themselves, each other, the past, the present and the future. Not only that, there are some new segments featured for the very first time. Listener voicemail has DTABM fans calling in to talk about their fave metal albums of the year. There is also a segment called The Yellow Goat where the incomparable Dave Balfour discusses rare but noteworthy metallic gems from his extensive vinyl collection. To be part of the listener voicemail on the very first episode of 2019, call 02 8011 4663 (include the area code). For those calling from outside of Australia, the number is +61 8011 4663. If it

  • Episode 31 (Peace Smells... But Who's Farting?)

    19/11/2018 Duración: 01h14min

Nietzsche. Sartre. Einstein. Durst. Touted by many as some of the greatest thinkers of all time. That was, of course, until episode 31 of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast. Your intrepid hosts up the intellectual caliber of their show in a manner that will not only expand your mind but perhaps even alter in ways unchangeable the zeitgeist as it is now known. There is a new segment called Great Farts in Metal History which is flogged to death throughout the course of the episode. There is talk about new releases wherein Jezabel and Tain giggle like cunning intellectuals at the band name Arsis. There is a segment about death metal releases from the month of October wherein Gary learns that Jezabel's feelings regarding the genre are not what he expected. There are haiku, ASMR death metal songs, ghosts of great British comedians and more packed into this bumper issue. New releases by Behemoth, Blacklab, Carnation, Convulsing, Dee Snider, Doro, Gourmand, High on Fire, Lucifer, Obscura, Rebel Wizard, Unearthly Trance, Yawning Man and Zevious are discussed. We interview Zac and Phil from Sydney thrashers Reaver about their origins ad the journey to their debut self titled EP which is out now. Then we deep dive into the legacy of the legendary band Manilla Road where we speak about Mark "The Shark" Shelton (R.I.P.) and the epic metal found on the band's sprawling discography. There is even a statment sent to us by way of audio file by Fenriz himself (Darkthrone, Isengard, Storm, Valhall, Eibon et al) where he reveals how he discovered Manilla Road. This is not one to be missed! Get listeni

  • Episode 28 (Amadingus)

    30/07/2018 Duración: 01h34min

As an elderly man, Gary Grim is visited by two writers who are compiling the story of his life. However, rather than learning about his beginnings, his struggles and his inevitable decline, these writers only seem to be interested in one particular shocking episode of the DTABM podcast... this episode. Old man Grim tells the writers the story of how the DTABM crew spoke about albums released around the time of the episode recording by bands such as Vein, Baptists, the Night Flight Orchestra, Uada, Dopethrone, Morag Tong, Oak, Ovate, Gruesome, Nocturnal Graves, Sleepwalkers, The Konsortium, Craft, and a then yet to be released Rebel Wizard album. He recalls how the lads went on to "break the silence" over not one but two albums by the bands Immortal and Deafheaven. The tales continues with a retelling of a "terrible album debate", a segment the guys had not come up with a catchy title for at the time, with the album St Anger by Metallica getting the DTABM treatment. Then Grim finally gets to the ending of th

  • Episode 27 (DTABM's Perfunctory Sojourn)

    27/06/2018 Duración: 49min

A regular old episode of the Deaf To All But Metal podcast is waylaid when Tain and Jezabel discover that Gary Grim is in possession of a time machine! Listen to these time pelicans embark upon a most perfunctory sojourn through time and space as they meet up with icons from throughout metal history. This episode of the podcast has all the hallmarks that you would find in a classic time travel film: cheesy effects, run ins with historical figures and a plot containing logic that only works if you don't think about it too much. Have a listen, we can literally make time for you to do so. DTABM theme song by Stephen "Smithy" Layzell Musical snippets: The original Doctor Who theme, Santeria by Sublime and an 8 Bit version of The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News.
