Elliot Avila is a 22 year old organizer for the Justice Democrats in Los Angeles. He simultaneously is a nursing student who advocates for Medicare for All. We talk about Bernie Sanders, the 2018 midterms, the state of the union, and who is next to go in the Trump Whitehouse.

Over the last month, I have been working on getting season 2 of Activated ready for you so we can be empowered with the knowledge, the motivation, and the courage to go out into the world and rally our communities together to make it out to the polls this November for the midterms. Patti Sawyer is an activist, lawyer, and mother in Oklahoma, and she's proudly liberal. She talks about representing Native tribes, activism, how you can get involved, and that time she got arrested while protesting with Jesse Jackson.

I go through simple actions we can all take to help reunify migrant families at the border and stall the Supreme Court justice selection.

Nadia and Maria are sexual violence activists who created a very popular Facebook page called Brock Turner for Prison. They share articles holding perpetrators accountable and mobilize their community to take action beyond the screen. I worked crowd-control with Danah at March for Our Lives in LA. I didn’t know then, but Danah has a fascinating story, which starts back in Israel in a kibbutz in the middle of nowhere. She served in the Israeli Army, attended University, dropped out, and moved to Los Angeles. She worked as a preschool teacher implementing practices she learned from her kibbutz life in Israel. Although she has been active in the past, Trump’s election got her fired up! Among many of the actions she is involved in, her group’s Postcards to Voters campaign has reached over 4,000 people. 

Rob is active within his community where he educates and empowers the public on closing down a high-methane polluting facility with his work in Protect Playa Now. He volunteered on research, events, and social media for Alison Hartson’s race for US Senate in the recent California primary, and he is the an active member for our local Indivisible chapter, most recently, creating a comprehensive guide of all the candidate and propositions in the recent Primary election in California.

I am in awe at the work Marti does for small business, children, education, and especially girls’ empowerment. She studied Sociology and Spanish at Salem College, an all women’s college, which is were her advocacy began. She has worked and volunteered in the non-profit space developing business and education programs in communities in need of a voice for over 10 years.  Marti is currently the Development Manager for ROX, a non-profit that provides empowerment-based programs for young girls, where she connects donors with the impact of the organization’s work. She is a positive change agent for communities in need, she’s a mother, a wife, a leader in the community of Columbus, Ohio, and one of my favorite people.

I met Stephanie and Vlad, when I attended my first Indivisible meeting. They were the organizers who had the task of rallying together 50 “first-time activists” who showed up in their friend’s backyard because we were in shock that Trump was president. However, this was not their biggest challenge by any stretch. With almost 20 years of activism experience between them, Stephanie and Vlad have a momentous list of achievements that have landed them in the headlines in print, TV, and radio.

We can all be involved in activism, and this podcast is seeking out expert advice and using behind the scenes footage to explore how to get active. It's a lot easier than you think.
