Metal Men [vol 2] #1 (1993)After a period of semi-obscurity, the Metal Men are BACK with a new mini-series that was certainly intended to bring about a new ongoing but ultimately didn’t. Probably had to do with Doc Magnus’s new grumpy 90s attitude and affinity for big modern laser guns. But hey, at least the United States got to make Australia jealous by housing a meteor AND playing host to Superman’s death. Avengers #144 (1976)Sending good vibes to mighty George Perez as we discuss one of his Avengers books from the 70s. Here, the Avengers and Patsy Walker are farting around in Roxxon/Brand, jumping on missiles and what not. Cap and Iron Man come across The Cat costume just hanging out and are like, “hey Patsy - wear this.” Patsy then unleashes a mighty stream of shinfo before agreeing to becoming Hellcat. Batman #389 (1985)Batman’s dealing with a bunch of crises as not only is the world falling apart with its red skies and infinite earths but Catwoman’s back in town and she might be killing dudes with shoes. Ever so graceful with the ladies, Batman basically negs Catwoman and leaves her crying but not before showing her a stalactite (stalagmite?) that looks like a cat. Doc Samson #1 (1996)Doc Samson is Hulk’s psychiatrist buddy who seemingly only has clients that have green hair. He travels to NYC to help figure out a gamma-radiated serial killer while simultaneously costing the city thousands in tax dollars spent on airfare. Teen Titans #46 (1977)Just a heads up — there are significant ETERNALS movie spoilers in the first half of the show.The Teen Titans are tasked with figuring out the Fiddler in this issue, who may have inspired Charlie Daniels to write “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Fiddler’s here messing with a concert for the youths, unleashing bees and rats everywhere. Eternals [vol 5] #1 (2021)So this is a pretty big deal, not because there’s an ETERNALS movie coming out this week but its probably the first time in SEVEN YEARS of this podcast that Shawn has taken notes on the comic he’s reading fo the show. Its called growth.Anyhow, the Eternals are a race of super-powered guys and gals put on Earth by mad space scientists and left alone with malevolent Mogwais for…reasons?!? Marvel Zombies [vol 1] #3 (2006)Happy almost Halloween folks!This week, we jump into the world of the Marvel Zombies as the superheroes and supervillains of Earth-71669 all got sick and started snacking down on humanity. A lot of it doesn’t make sense though with Wolverine not automatically healing and Cap still able to function perfectly with his brains out of his head. That and what is it exactly that Silver Surfer’s skin is made of? These are probably easy answers that we are too lazy to look up. Infinity Inc #15 (1985)Chroma is an androgynous space being who shows up on different planets to sing melodious dirges about the apocalypse. Obsidian, who is literally made of shadows, is like “I’m already goth AF so nah man” and punches Chroma out. As a result, Los Angeles and the rest of the Infinity Inc members are bummed out. Action Comics [vol 1] #466 (1976)In a retread of previous Superman stories we’ve done, Lex Luthor finds a way to make not only Superman young but also manages to de-age Batman and Flash. Or does he? Actually, he doesn’t. He just uses teenage androids, kicks the Batman one into oblivion and makes Superman punch himself a whole lot. Marvel Two-In-One #30 (1977)The Thing and Alicia Masters eat lunch at Piccadilly Circus in London when they are interrupted by some chaos. A chino-clad Ben runs off to investigate and is ambushed by a Hydra-influenced Spider-Woman (who Ben insists is Spider-Man’s sister). Nick Fury tells Ben to shut his damn mouth. Later, Alicia gets nabbed by Spider-Woman so she can ALSO become a mutated woman who is ALSO a spider (a Spider-Woman). Grim Reaper is Wonder Man’s brother, so that’s pretty cool. He’s a vengeance-fueled villain that’s kicked it with some of the best Marvel has to offer, both good and evil.
