When we call ourselves His followers and we live lives that are no different than the people of the world, we empty His name of its power. Contentment is the key to freedom from idolatry. Contentment leads to coveting. Coveting causes us to seek out that which we feel we are lacking. That seeking motivates us to make idols out of the good things God has brought into our world. Just as Aaron used the gold that God had given the Israelites to make the golden calf, we use the good gifts of God to make idols to meet our wants and needs.
