Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
17/08/2011 Duración: 06minCarpal tunnel syndrome is a progressively painful hand and arm condition caused by a pinched nerve in your wrist. Bound by bones and ligaments, the carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway — about as big around as your thumb — located on the palm side of your wrist. This tunnel protects a main nerve to your hand and nine tendons that bend your fingers. Compression of the nerve produces the numbness, pain and, eventually, hand weakness that characterize carpal tunnel syndrome. STUDY: 96% of Online Pharmacies Operate Illegally
06/07/2011 Duración: 45minThere was an informative Congressional briefing on Online Pharmacies late last month that we wanted to share with you. As pharmacists, we are often asked about the legitimacy of online supplies of medicines and we consistently inform people of the risks that are involved with purchasing from many of these sources. The information in this briefing adds to our warnings with great detail on the inherent risks of dealing with medication from unverifiable sources. The briefing is best viewed in video which is on our website at htt://islanddrug.com/youtube

Drug Shortages
22/06/2011 Duración: 03minFor this week's podcast I'm going to discuss the US drug supply. Far to frequently these days I find myself explaining to someone that I don't have their prescribed medication in stock and that I won't be able to get it for them anytime soon due to a long-term national shortage. In 2010, 178 drug shortages were reported to the FDA, a record number and triple the number from 2005. Celiac Disease
25/05/2011 Duración: 07minCeliac disease has been known by many different names in the medical literature over the years, including gluten-sensitive enteropathy and celiac sprue (which is different from tropical sprue). Celiac disease can be defined as a permanent intolerance to the gliadin fraction of wheat protein and related alcohol-soluble proteins (called prolamines) found in rye and barley. Celiac disease occurs in genetically susceptible individuals who eat these proteins, leading to an autoimmune disease, where the body’s immune system starts attacking normal tissue. This condition continues as long as these food products are in the diet. Please click here to download accompanying text; http://islanddrug.com/podcasts/Celiac.pdf
