  • S11E74 Ukraine v SWNT Preview

    17/06/2022 Duración: 32min

The Men's National Team's World Cup dream may be over, but the Scotland Women's side hopes of reaching their finals in Australia and New Zealand next year is still very much alive. In this episode, John B is joined by Chris Marshall and Amy Canavan to preview their latest qualifier against Ukraine which, due to the ongoing atrocities in their homeland, is being played in Poland. We look back at what's been a mixed campaign for the SWNT under new manager Pedro Martinez Losa. After kicking off with three consecutive wins, Losa's side required a 93rd minute equaliser from Abi Harrison to spare their blushes against the Ukrainians at Hampden, before being thrashed by runaway Group B leaders Spain. The Spaniards then completed the double over the Scots to clinch qualification, but Scotland still have a playoff spot in their hands if they can win next Friday and against Faroe Islands in September. Chris and Amy give their thoughts on the opposition and try to predict the lineup Scotland will send out that will, h

  • S11E71 Scotland Semi Flop

    03/06/2022 Duración: 01h19min

The two John's and Josh are joined by Welsh football writer Ian Mitchelmore in what we hoped was going to be a preview of a Home Nations final to decide who qualifies for Qatar 2022. Ukraine didn't get the script though as Scotland were convincingly defeated in the playoff semi which leaves us once again not at the party. The guys discuss whether Clarke got his team selection right, the lack of width when we tried to change things and how certain players were badly missed. Credit has to go to the Ukraine as they outplayed and out fought Scotland on their way to moving one step closer to getting to the big event. We get the views of Ian in terms of what he expects from Sunday and he is confident going in to the game. He gives us an insight in to the strength of the current Welsh team and their fantastic unbeaten home run. The Scotland team have the perfect chance to now regroup and start a new unbeaten run as we look to qualify for Euro 2024. Potential changes to the team are discussed and debate whether Cl

  • S11E70 Scotland v Ukraine Preview

    27/05/2022 Duración: 01h27min

Just five days to go until the long awaited World Cup playoff Semi Final between Scotland and Ukraine. On this special three-part preview, John B is joined by a mixture of commentators and fans to look ahead to the big game. First up is Hampden Roar Podcast host and freelance commentator Andy Bargh, who had the misfortune of being on before the squad was announced, so we debated what new faces would bve considered. Of course, no new players were drafted into Steve Clarke's squad. Next up were well-known and enthusiastic Scotland fans Gordon Sheach and Laura Brannan to assess the squad and try to name their team for Wednesday, and also what three changes they'd make to the last Scotland team to play in a World Cup Finals match with players from the latest squad. Lastly, and by no means least, the voice of Scottish Football for Sky Sports Ian Crocker gives the lowdown on the big game and how much he is looking forward to covering the match with partner in crime Ally McCoist. We all have one simple message - C

The situation at Hibs is discussed to the delight of other fans of rival teams while some guests question what kind of pressure Goodwin

  • S11E67 That's Not Entertainment

    17/05/2022 Duración: 01h29min

John, Jeff and Vinny are on as we round up what has been going on in Scottish football with some of the playoffs being decided in the last week. So far, it's pleasing to see that the playoffs have seen teams progress and be promoted so congratulations to Bonnyrigg, Edinburgh City and Queen's Park. Can Inverness complete the set and defeat St Johnstone? Further down in tier 6 things have still to be decided with Darvel, Tranent and St Cuthberts set to take part in a round robin tournament to see who gains a place in the Lowland League. Once again we discuss the Lowland League and the way they have stifled progression with lack of promotion spots available. In a bizarre tangent, we end up talking half time entertainment in Scottish football and the bizarre and wonderful things we've seen take place. It provides some light relief to the show. More congratulations are in order, this time in the Women's game as Glasgow Girls and Women were promoted from SWPL2. We discuss progress for the Women's game in Scotla

  • S11E66 Euro 92 Throwback 4: Scandinavian Surprise - Sweden and Denmark

    12/05/2022 Duración: 01h23min

We’ve saved the best until last in our Euro ’92 throwback series as John Bleasdale looks at the success of the two Scandinavian sides in the tournament, hosts Sweden and late entrants, and surprise winners, Denmark. He is joined by 96-capped Swedish internationalist Patrik Andersson, Danish journalist Sebastian Stanbury, and Danish commentator Niels Harild. Patrik broke into the Sweden side at the turn of 1992 and impressed enough in pre-tournament friendlies and with Malmo to become a starter at the Euros. He talks about the expectation for the host nation to do well in the tournament, and they delivered by topping their group, including a famous 2-1 win over England to send them home before the postcards. However, Patrik missed the Semi Final with Germany through suspension, and watched in agony as his side went down 3-2 to the Germans that ended their fairy-tale of Euro glory on home soil. It would form part of a good era for the Swedes as they went onto finish third at the USA ’94 World Cup. As Denmark

    10/05/2022 Duración: 01h36min

Regulars John, Jeff, Kyle and Scott are on as they review the last week in Scottish football. We kick off by discussing the events at the SWFA awards ceremony which unfortunately was ruined by some shocking comments from one of the guest speakers. Following on from this we discuss the need for more respect to be shown in Scottish football overall. Rangers qualified for the Europa League final which takes place next week. The team discuss the achievement but don't call it a fairytale or Jeff will turn in to the Incredible Hulk. The relegation spot in Premiership looks pretty nailed on with playoff spot being similar. Can Arbroath or Inverness win the playoffs and get promoted? Congratulations are in order to Darvel for winning the inaugural WOSFL in a long season. We discuss the prospect of them playing in the Lowland League and hint at possible reconstruction we'd like to see in future. The podcast concludes with the news that Scott Brown has retired from playing and some of his achievements. Remember y

    05/05/2022 Duración: 01h06min

We’re onto the penultimate episode of our Euro ’92 throwback series, and it’s onto the fortunes of the two home nations England and Scotland. In this episode, John Bleasdale talks to England striker Alan Smith, and leading Scottish Sports Writer Hugh MacDonald. Alan talks about England’s tight qualifying group where they sneaked through ahead of Republic of Ireland by one point, and his part in the campaign with the winning goal against Turkey at Wembley. He then goes into detail about why this England side didn’t have the same expectation of winning the tournament, with injuries in certain areas playing a part, before analysing their sub-standard performances in Sweden, culminating in a 2-1 loss to the hosts that sent them home. Alan goes into detail about that substitution where he replaced Gary Lineker and how he felt at replacing a man he was expecting to partner, and also how the stick for manager Graham Taylor was over the top. It was a tournament to forget for England, added by the riots of a section

  • S11E63 Lower League Review

    04/05/2022 Duración: 01h22min

Good John is joined by Falkirk fan Alan, aka Air Force Wan, SFSA chairman Paul Goodwin, and two men of many clubs Ally Graham and Davie Irons in our review of the Championship to League Two campaign. Lower League expert Ally is still reeling at his predictions game defeat to the podcast team, he should take tips from Davie's daughter Amy who's been successful in beating the Sportscene pundits this season. The lads discuss the season gone by for the 30 clubs outside the top tier. From the over-achievement of part time Arbroath pushing Kilmarnock almost all the way in the Championship, through the PR circuses at Falkirk and Raith Rovers, to the fight for SPFL status for Cowdenbeath. Everything is covered in what's been another memorable season with some great stories, and also some worrying times for others. We do go off in a tangent by discussing the development of young players caused by the curtailing of youth academies within regions and clubs forced by budget constraints. We agree that this will be worth

  • S11E62 Euro 92 Throwback 2: The Underachievers - France and CIS

    28/04/2022 Duración: 58min

It’s the second instalment of our Euro ’92 throwback series, where John Bleasdale looks at two sides who underperformed in the tournament – France and CIS, formerly known as Soviet Union and now Russia. He is joined by journalists Pierre-Etienne Minonzio of French newspaper L’Equippe and Russian correspondent for ESPN, Sky Sports and The Guardian amongst others Artur Petrosyan. France arrived in Sweden as one of the pre-tournament favourites having won all eight of their qualifiers, but Pierre explains that part of it was down to luck rather than design. He goes into tremendous detail as to why France performed so poorly at Euro ’92, culminating in their exit at the hands of Denmark in the final group game. From an unfocussed group of players believing their path to the Final was mapped out, to an unfocussed manager in French legend Michel Platini, who announced pre-tournament he was leaving to focus on an ambassador role for the France ’98 World Cup, it was a recipe for their disastrous early exit in the gr

Fiona then talks about her role at the SF
