  • S9E39 The Jamie Winter Interview

    24/03/2020 Duración: 01h19min

The two John's are joined by another special guest as ex Aberdeen, Chesterfield and Montrose player Jamie Winter is on. Jamie talks us through how he got involved as a Back Onside ambassador and the importance of the work they do. Unfortunately we've had to cancel our charity game which was due to take place this Sunday but we still have a raffle with some fantastic prizes available. You can enter by donating on the below link to be in with a chance of winning. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/scottish-football-forums-podcast-back-onside We look back at Jamie's career as a full time footballer from his time as a youth at Leeds through to him now being at Carnoustie Panmure. He's got some great stories and it's interesting to hear how he found the transition from playing full time to transitioning to part time football. We finish off with some fun stuff including asking him to pick a best eleven of players he has played with. Tweet us @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsInstagram - sffpodcast

  • S9E38 Toilet Roll Shutdown

    16/03/2020 Duración: 01h06min

It's the regular trio on this week and they are lucky enough to be joined by Callum of the Football CFB podcast. In the current situation there isn't much football to chat about in terms of action on the pitch. We speculate about what may happen. Will the season end as it stands? Will it be declared null and void? Will it be postponed? There are a number of issues relating to each scenario as there are contracts to finish in May, sponsorships and much more. Callum advises us how he got in to doing podcasts and we discuss a couple of guests he has had on. He has a really good style of interviewing so if you have room for two podcasts in your life then give it a listen. We'll still continue to be on regardless of the current situation and we have other special guests lined up over the next few weeks. • S9E37 Penne Arcade

    09/03/2020 Duración: 01h07min

It's the regular trio of the two John's and Krys on this week as they discuss another busy week in Scottish football. There was another midweek set of fixtures in an expensive time for fans of the top flight. The bottom of the league is getting interesting with Hamilton picking up rare back to back wins and Hearts improving. At the other end of the table Rangers stumbled again. We briefly discuss Rangers upcoming game against Leverkusen and if away game might be behind closed doors. The chat moves on to what's been happening in the lower league in the Championship league of draws. We look one step closer to finding out what is happening with the West of Scotland League. A meeting is happening this Thursday where clubs should have further information. We finish off by talking about pasta and kisses in crowds. • S9E36B Graham Wilson Special

    08/03/2020 Duración: 26min

This is a Scottish Football Forum's Podcast Special for Back Onside with Graham Wilson, a Patron for the Charity. In this interview, Graham talks openly about his battle with depression and alcoholism, and how that battle took him to the brink of taking his own life on a number of occasions. There is no hiding place for Graham as he talks about his darkest days, including taking payday loans to feed his alcohol habit and drinking weedkiller in a bid to end his pain. Thankfully, Graham is here to tell the story of how he gave up the booze on 4 October 2013, overcoming his demons and turned his life around to be where he is now. In his role as a patron, he frequently gives talks in Universities and Schools to raise mental health awareness and explains the great work of Back Onside. As you are by now aware, we have our own charity event for Back Onside on Sunday 29 March at Broadwood between fans and ex Players of Aberdeen and Celtic. Graham elaborates on the importance of events such as ours and the upcoming Ba

  • S9E36 (What's the Story) Bawlin' Goalie

    03/03/2020 Duración: 01h18min

We're fortunate enough this week to be joined by another guest. The two Johns and Krys are joined by Celtic fan Paul. He's an award winning podcaster so I'm not sure how he's ended up on here. He has played a significant role for us in securing ex Celtic pros for the Back Onside charity match. A reminder that you can donate here on our Just Giving page We cover the Scottish Cup and the surprise that Rangers got knocked out by Hearts. This led to Gerrard having doubts on his future. There is discussion about when and where the semi finals will be played. It would make sense for an Edinburgh derby to be played at Murrayfield so it won't happen. Will this be the time for Aberdeen to beat Celtic? Are Morton now contenders for the Premiership playoff with their recent run of results. We cover the lower leagues and what's been happening there. Paul discusses the podcast that he runs and his plans to take it forward as he goes full time with it. He gives us an insight in to the books he has written too and the thril

There is the Scottish Cup which saw the two John's attend Rugby Park in a remarkable game. This links in with us previewing the quarter finals. We also cover the weekend action in the Premiership and other leagues. It's getting interesting as teams fight it out for promotion, relegation and to stay safe. The podcast concludes with some chat about Scotland and some random chat that goes off on a tangent. • S9E34B Gary Dempsey Interview

    25/02/2020 Duración: 27min

As part of our Mental Health Awareness, Good John got in touch with former Dunfermline and Aberdeen midfielder Gary Dempsey. Over the last few months, Gary has become an advocate of Mental Health Awareness by frequently posting videos with messages of positivity, hope and encouragement for those in need of help to come forward. More recently, he got in touch with eight-year old Dunfermline fan Ollie Young, who was the subject of bullying at school and left a letter for his mum saying he hated himself. Gary has gone above the call of duty to help Ollie, from a video call with him to arranging a game of football with Ollie and his friends in Dunfermline. Gary talks openly about the events that led him to talk openly, the difference in changing rooms from his time to now regarding opening up and the role the media and every one of us has to play to ensure nobody suffers in silence. This is a must-listen! #MentalHealthAwareness #ItsOkNotToBeOk If anyone would like to donate to our charity match to help raise fund

  • S9E34 Phil McGuire 2.0

    25/02/2020 Duración: 01h37min

We've a slightly different podcast as the two John's are joined by current Carnoustie Panmure manager Phil McGuire. The guys are delighted to have him on to discuss his career at Aberdeen. We begin by previewing the weekend game against Lochee United which is a massive game. Phil talks us through what the changes have been that have made them title contenders. As Carnoustie Panmure are linked up with Back Onside we discuss how the club got involved. We preview the charity game that we've arranged plus the other one that is taking place. That then leads on to his time at Aberdeen and the different memories. Phil tells us some stories about the characters he played with too and picks his best eleven and subs from players he played with. A reminder that you can donate using our Just Giving page to support the work that Back Onside do and raise much needed funds. We may have another podcast to discuss the usual stuff that we talk about week to week. Thanks for listening. Tweet us @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Fo

  • S9E32 Storm in a Scottish Cup

    11/02/2020 Duración: 47min

It's the two John's on tonight as they discuss what has been going on in Scottish football. We were hoping to have Phil McGuire this week but unfortunately he has had to reschedule. The Scottish Cup takes up most of this week with six ties being decided. There was only one real upset with Inverness beating Livingston. BSC Glasgow gave a good account of themselves and hopefully the money they have earned can lead to them finding permanent facilities. We skim through midweek fixtures from last as we try not to bore the listeners with too much Aberdeen chat. There's certainly no goals to talk about for the Dons. We've got another Premiership midweek set of fixtures coming up as the games come in thick and fast. The lower leagues are discussed in terms of where it leaves teams as they aim for promotion or to get enough points to be safe from relegation. This leads us on to some Pyramid chat with another couple clubs in the West Region of the Juniors declaring their intentions. The podcast concludes with a wee bit

  • S9E31 The Self Preservation Pyramid

    03/02/2020 Duración: 01h08min

It's the regular trio of the two John's and Krys on this week as they discuss the current events in Scottish football. We start by covering the lower leagues. Dundee United slipped up against Arbroath. The guys discuss whether they could be contenders for the Premiership playoff. Raith Rovers extended their lead in League One and Cove Rangers only drew but Edinburgh City couldn't take advantage. The chat leads us on to the Pyramid system with news that the teams in the West Region appear to have been blocked from joining. A few clubs have made statements in a story which we've not heard the last of. Celtic extended their lead at the top in the Premiership, Hearts continue to show signs of improvement under Stendel as they moved off the bottom of the league and Kilmarnock won their first game in a while. We finish off by previewing the midweek Premiership games and the Scottish Cup fifth round. Thanks as always for listening. • S9E30 The Timewarp Podcast

    30/01/2020 Duración: 59min

It's Krys and John this week as they make a second attempt at releasing a podcast this week following technical difficulties on the interview with Phil McGuire. Although that one is now lost to us all, Phil has kindly agreed to come back on at a later date. Instead, we have to make do with chatting through two full rounds of Premiership fixtures, a couple of catch up games, the lower league matches from the weekend and two Scottish Cup fourth round replays. So not much to talk about then! Across the games we chat about the form of Aberdeen, how every dropped point is a disaster in the title race, the chances of Hearts being able to make the top six, Dundee United's inevitable march to the Championship title, if Partick Thistle just collect relegations in bundles, and whether or not League One will become a two horse race. We give a quick nod to Fauldhouse who exited the Scottish Cup to Pollok, and we also plug our upcoming Back Onside charity match at Broadwood which is a little over eight weeks away. We then

    20/01/2020 Duración: 58min

It's the regular trio of the two John's and Krys on this week. We discuss the Scottish Cup and preview what's to come in the upcoming week. The best bits of the cup were BSC Glasgow getting through to the fifth round for the first time in their short history. Hearts won their first game under Stendel and Ayr knocked out Ross County. We discuss the draw for the next round and potential shocks and what we expect to be the TV games. There wasn't much league action with only three League Two games being played. Cove Rangers saw their lead at the top extended to five points. There is a full midweek card in Premiership on Wednesday and the Friday night game in the Championship returns. We finish off by talking about the weekend fixtures and praising the SFA for their sensible pricing (for once). Thanks as always for listening. The regular trio of the two John's and Krys are on. We're delighted to have our first special guest of 2020 on with BT commentator Rory Hamilton being on. Good John leads and asks Rory a wide range of questions relating to how he got involved in commentary through to highlights in his career so far. We cover the lower leagues with the main news being off the field with Morton and their reaction on social media to some of their fan interaction. On the field they managed to win away from home which helps their fight to avoid relegation. Is League One the most exciting league in Scotland just now? It looks like a five way battle at the top of the league with it regularly changing hands. To conclude the podcast we ask Rory some more questions about following the Scotland team and food and drink highlights. An announcement is made with regards to players who have confirmed they will be appearing in the Back Onside charity game. Thanks as always for listening. • S9E26 We Achieved The Points

    30/12/2019 Duración: 01h34min

It's a two man show this week as Krys and good John are on to talk about the final matches of 2019, and the last fixtures before the top flight goes on it's winter break. The discussion starts off with Boxing Day's Edinburgh derby and differing fortunes both on the day and then into the weekend fixtures. There's a bit of a theme across the two sets of fixtures as most teams that did well in one didn't do quite so well in the other. Notable exceptions included St Johnstone who had quite a good week, and Kilmarnock who didn't. Despite this, they have appointed their manager until the end of the season, and we discuss why on Earth anyone thinks that's deserved. There's praise for Hamilton for doing what Hamilton always seem to do, St Mirren for somehow winning games narrowly, Livingston for making the most of their plastic pitch, and of course Rangers for coming out on top in Sunday's big televised match. Krys even holds his hands up, which is ironic given how Celtic got their goal on Sunday. He's not the only o

F Bomb John and Krys are on and are privileged to be joined by ex professional footballer Kevin Twaddle. Kevin talks us through his career where he started off in the Juniors and managed to play senior football for a few teams including Hearts who he grew up supporting. He has some terrific stories to tell and he also answers all our weird and wonderful questions. He talks us through his troubles off the pitch in terms of his gambling issues and the book he wrote, "Life On the Line: How to Lose a Million and So Much More". We could easily have listened to Kevin talk even more about his career due to all the interesting stories he talks about. The Premiership review covers how Hearts are doing under their new manager. We cover the controversial tackles and good results for Motherwell and Livingston. Due to it being a longer one than usual we skip the lower league review. Thanks again to Kevin for coming on and we wish all our listeners a Happy Christmas. Thanks as always for listening. Tweet us @sffpodcastFace

  • S9E24 Deer Oh Deer

    17/12/2019 Duración: 52min

It's the two John's on this week as Krys takes a break. We start off with Good John promoting the Back Onside game between Aberdeen/Tayside X1 v Back Onside X1 which will take place next May. The lower leagues are covered, starting off with the Championship. Dundee United look like they're starting to run away with it. Rangers and Celtic continue their battle at the top of the table while Aberdeen moved back in to third. At the other end of the table Hamilton and Hearts face a big game this coming weekend. Rangers joined Celtic in qualifying for the last 32 of the Europa League and found out their fate today in terms of who they will play. We finish off with some chat about racism in football and our upcoming podcast of the decade in terms of best and worst. Thanks as always for listening. It's a busy podcast this week as the regular trio are joined by Aaron from Fauldhouse United. We start with the action from last midweek which leads us in to the Premiership action from Saturday. As we've got Aaron on we get him to talk us through the events of Fauldhouse United's Junior Cup tie at Bridge of Don. There was a fair bit of publicity around the tie after it was initially called off due to suspicious reasons. The lower leagues are covered with the game of the weekend being in League Two. Our #pickitoot moment also came there as Brechin City's goalkeeper Lewis McGinn scored. Krys and Aaron talk us through the League Cup final as Celtic made it 10 domestic trophies in a row. Aaron has recently launched a football project called Time to Tackle. He discusses how it's been going in terms of helping others through football therapy. We finish off by discussing Cowdenbeath's David Cox and the unnecessary abuse that he has received that may force him to quit football. Thanks as always for listening. Tweet
