  • S9E6 Young Cup Special

    13/08/2019 Duración: 01h07min

It's the two John's on this week with plenty to talk about in Scottish football. There's European action, League action and a few different Cup competitions too. This week starts off with talking about Celtic as their second leg tie comes to a conclusion as we're recording. We discuss what's gone wrong for Celtic and the lack of transfer activity. It's something that has frustrated their fans for a while. There were mixed results last week for our other teams competing in Europe with Rangers having a fantastic win, meanwhile Aberdeen struggled and have it all to do on Thursday to advance. It leads us on to talk about Rangers destruction of Hibs and the strength of their attacking options. Celtic continue to score goals for fun domestically but have issues at the back with their new signings. We cover the lower leagues which is where most of our contenders for our #pickitoot moment come from. Before we preview the League Cup, Good John managed to secure an interview with East Fife's manager Darren Young. We ho

  • S9E5 The Derek Crothers Interview

    05/08/2019 Duración: 01h24min

Good John and Krys are joined by former Grade Two referee Derek Crothers this week. F-bomb John missed out in case he got a red card for foul language. Derek gives an insight into life moving up the ranks as an official for 13 years and the stumbling blocks that prevented him getting promoted to a Grade One official. In an open and honest interview, Derek elaborates on the cliques that exist within the SFA and how certain officials move up the ranks as a result, case example Andrew Dallas! However, he does point out that referees are not biased and how much he enjoyed being an official before calling it a day. Onto football, Rangers and Aberdeen made it into the Third Qualifying Round of the Europa League. Both learned their possible opponents for the playoff round should they get past Midtjylland and Rijeka respectively, whilst Celtic will face Slavia Prague in the Champions League playoff if they overcome Cluj. Back to domestic action, the Champions began in emphatic style with a 7-0 trouncing of St Johnsto

  • S9E4 The Kevin Harper Interview

    30/07/2019 Duración: 54min

F-Bomb John shows off his proud new nickname in front of Good John and No Nickname Krys on this week's podcast. We start off with a review of Celtic in Europe as they advance in style past Nomme Kalju and onto Cluj, with Krys firing off as many bad puns as he can manage. There's previews of both Rangers and Aberdeen later this week as they both hope to Progres to the third qualifying round of the Europa League. The League Cup sectionals come to an end and there's a couple of surprise names in the second round, with East Fife particularly happy to get one of the big names in the draw. Forfar got there thanks to another defeat for St Johnstone, leaving Tommy Wright unsurprisingly one of the favourites in the sack race. Meanwhile Albion Rovers came close to getting out of their section ahead of St Mirren, which leads us nicely into Good John's interview with Albion Rovers manager Kevin Harper. Kevin tells us about his time in charge at Cliftonhill so far, saving Albion Rovers from the playoffs in the process, an

  • S9E3 Invisible John

    22/07/2019 Duración: 47min

Three episodes into the new season and we've dropped to the standards of Kilmarnock with a podcast which finishes about as effectively as the home strikers at Rugby Park. It started so promisingly too. Two Johns and a Krys for the first time this season and they rip into Kilmarnock like... well, the Connah's Quay Nomads. Thankfully the rest of the European chat is positive as Celtic and Aberdeen both progress while Rangers double down on that and progress to Progres. There's also some chat about hopefully Nomme meeting Shakira... or at least it's possible that was one of Krys's attempts at saying Shkendija. The League Cup chat picks up where last week's podcast left off and rounds off the midweek games from Wednesday before looking at the weekend fixtures. St Johnstone, St Mirren and Dunfermline all have their own disappointments and Krys dreams of Celtic getting Edinburgh City in the second round draw. Then we run out of things to talk about so Krys starts browsing the pyramid system on wikipedia and talk ab

  • S9E2 The Ten O'Clock News

    17/07/2019 Duración: 53min

It's episode two and this time Good John is unavailable. John returns and is joined by Krys. The season may have just started again but there has been plenty of football player already. We had our European contingent starting off last Tuesday with all four teams winning their first leg which was pleasing. The teams not involved in Europe kicked off their season in the League Cup which saw a few shocks take place. We start off our new regular feature of tweets of the week with talk of Livingston's dump and Shay Logan's rant at ScotRail. If you've seen anything yourself on twitter relating to Scottish football that has amused you then send it on. Another feature will be goal of the week so again send your contenders on to us @sffpodcast on Twitter. The podcast concludes with chat about the upcoming Scottish Cup preliminary round draw. • S9E1 Back Onside with Aaron Connolly

    08/07/2019 Duración: 01h11min

It's our ninth season in a row as the Podcast team return for another campaign - just four weeks after the last podcast of season eight! We are one John down but John B and Krys are joined by special guest Aaron Connolly of Fauldhouse United. The guys start by summarising the cruel ending to the Scotland Women's World Cup adventures, where they went out in typically Scottish fashion. Whilst we are gutted for them, there is a recognition of how far the Women's game has come in the last two years and we hope that they learn the harsh lessons going forward. The subject of mental health has always been a talking point and few know more about the depths of depression than Aaron. He talks very openly about his darkest and lowest moment when he was ready to take his own life, only to hear the voice of his son as the starting point to saving his life. Aaron goes into detail about the moment he was found by Police, his visit to A&E, four weeks at Leverndale Mental Hospital and being in a better place now. Aaron is

  • S8E47 Beautiful Flower

    13/06/2019 Duración: 01h20min

It's the final podcast of a long season which means it's a long one. The good thing is it's the regular trio of the two John's and Krys that are on. There is some more treble chat but thankfully it's not about Celtic. Auchinleck Talbot secured a treble of their own so that gets a mention. We move on to discuss some of the transfer chat in Scotland with a few confirmed deals already. This leads us on to Scotland's double header where we got what most fans expected. The Women's team have started their World Cup campaign with defeat to England. They acquitted themselves well and have positives to take in to games against Japan and Argentina. The podcast concludes with our highlights from this season on the podcast and on the pitch. In true podcast fashion though we are distracted by pies. Thanks to all who have listened this season. We'll be back. Tweet us @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsInstagram - sffpodcast

  • S8E46 Daleks on the Wireless

    29/05/2019 Duración: 01h03min

It's the usual Trio on the Podcast this week, and it's trebles that take up most of the theme for this week - but that's not where we start. The Scotland Women's National Team played their final World Cup warm up game against Jamaica at Hampden and came through an entertaining game with a 3-2 win. Over 18000 turned up at the National Stadium, a new record for a Women's International in Scotland, to lend their support to Shelley Kerr's side ahead of the big event in France. We wish them all the best and hope they can do something the men's side have never done in advancing to the knockout stages. Speaking of the men's team, Steve Clarke named his first squad as Scotland manager for the upcoming double header against Cyprus and Belgium. A minimum of three points from those games is required to kick-start our Euro 2020 qualification hopes. Our focus then turns to the Premiership Playoffs between St Mirren and Dundee United. A forgettable first leg at Tannadice was followed by a penalty shootout at the Simple Dig

  • S8E45 All About the Rangers'

    22/05/2019 Duración: 01h21min

The two John's are joined by a special guest this week, Cove Rangers striker Paul McManus. McManus talks about Cove's historic promotion from the Highland League to the SFPL set up, and his moment of joy in scoring the final goal of the 7-0 aggregate win over Berwick Rangers, consigning them to the Lowland League. He talks about the rise of the club, how they overcame disappointment of last seasons playoff heartache against Cowdenbeath to go one better, the standard of football in the Highland League, his partnership with Mitch Meginsson up front and his battles with injury this campaign. Naturally, he talks about the celebrations over the weekend and not needing to buy a drink in Aberdeen! A tactical substitution sees Paul depart and replaced by Krys to round off the rest of the weekends action. Clyde sealed promotion to League One following their playoff win over Annan Athletic. It wasn't to be three out of three promotions from the playoffs as Queen of the South comfortably saw off Raith Rovers to preserve

  • S8E44 Flanagan's Fire Drill

    14/05/2019 Duración: 57min

It's the two John's and Krys on this week to discuss what's been going on in Scottish football. The race for the final European places continues to the last day of the season after Aberdeen and Kilmarnock both won at the weekend. St Mirren managed to beat Hamilton to give them hope of avoiding the playoffs. There's a wee bit of chat too on Rangers improvement this season and Celtic's options for their next manager. Flanagan's elbow is discussed with news today of potential retrospective action even though he was given a yellow card. We record as a couple of playoff fixtures are getting played with there being all to play for. The result of the weekend saw Cove win the Rangers derby convincingly. The guys discuss how well they could progress up the leagues potentially. We finish off with a bit of chat on Women's football with the Scotland squad being announced soon for the World Cup. • S8E43 Mad Dog Scott Brown

    07/05/2019 Duración: 01h40min

It's Krys and the two John's on this week to cover the going ons in Scottish football. It's getting to the business end of the season with plenty more being decided on who will play where next season. We record as some of the playoff games are being played with most ties finely poised going in to the second leg. John has managed to arrange an interview with title winner Scott Brown though not the one Krys would have hoped for. Thanks to Scott for agreeing to the interview. Dundee were finally relegated and Celtic finally won their eighth title and trophy in a row as Krys is keen to talk about for some reason. There is a wee bit of chat about pyramid system and calls for an expansion to the Championship in 2020/21. We conclude the podcast with talk about mental health and urge anyone who feels they are struggling to get in touch with us or many of the organisations available. Please check out the SAMH website for a number of options. Tweet us @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsInstagram - sffpodcast

  • S8E42.5 Podcast Bonus - Begg and Stark

    02/05/2019 Duración: 50min

Series 8 Episode 42 featured a tribute to the late Lisbon Lions duo Billy McNeill and Stevie Chalmers, who lost their lives to dementia. As part of the tribute, we spoke to Aberdeen fan and former Celtic TV presenter Ally Begg, and former Celtic midfielder Billy Stark. Now you can hear the interviews in full and unedited. Begg recalls the sound advice McNeill gave him during his time at Celtic TV, in particular how to better himself in the face of hate mail. He also recalls McNeill's legacy at Aberdeen and just how fond he was of the great man and the respect McNeill showed him, even if he did call him "Sheepie." We spoke to Billy Stark on the same day of Chalmers passing. He recalled how good a striker, and how good a person, Chalmers was and both his and McNeill's roles in Celtic's great 1967 side. However, it was mainly Stark's time as a player and the impact Billy McNeill had as a manager during the Centenary year, where Celtic won the Double. We hope you enjoy listening to their memories to two legends f

  • S8E42 A Lions Tribute

    29/04/2019 Duración: 01h12min

We're one John down this week but Krys is back. We start off with a special tribute to Lisbon Lions Billy McNeill and Stevie Chalmers, who lost their lives to dementia this week. The tribute features interviews with former Celtic player Billy Stark and Broadcaster Ally Begg, who was a presenter on Celtic TV. The topic moves nicely onto Premiership action and it was fitting that Celtic's No.5 scored the only goal of the game on 67 minutes to claim victory over Kilmarnock, which takes them to within a point of the title. Rangers clinched second with an easy win at home to Aberdeen, whilst the Edinburgh derby ended in a 1-1 draw. At the bottom, Dundee look doomed after a last minute loss to Motherwell, whilst both St Mirren and Hamilton snatched late draws to move them closer to safety, though one will end up in the Premiership playoffs. Ross County sealed Championship promotion in style, Falkirk need a minor miracle to avoid dropping out of the Division whilst Queen of the South, Alloa and Partick Thistle are s

  • S8E41 Easter Ecksit

    22/04/2019 Duración: 01h01min

The two John's are on this week, joined by special guest Iain Emerson who is editor of the Tartan Army magazine. The podcast leads with Iain giving us an insight to what is included in the magazine. He informs us it's for the fans by the fans. If you have any articles you want included or anything else Tartan Army related then get in touch at tartanarmymagazine.com or on social media where they are on Facebook and Twitter. It's a good week for him to be on with Alex McLeish leaving the Scotland job for a second time. It's no real surprise. The guys discuss who they'd like to see as manager going forward and whether a non Scot would be accepted. The two John's cover the Premiership with there being some talking points with regards to Steve Clarke's comments. Aberdeen got a crucial victory in battle for third place. The Glasgow teams both visited Edinburgh with Rangers getting the better result. It means Celtic will be delayed in their quest to secure the league. In the bottom half, St Mirren picked up what cou

  • S8E40 Craig's Tight Shorts

    16/04/2019 Duración: 01h07min

It's the regular trio back on this week with Krys being rather happier than the two John's. The podcast starts with a review of what's gone on in the lower leagues. Congratulations to Arbroath and wee Dick in securing the League One title. We're recording as Morton play Inverness in the Championship. There's plenty still to be decided. The finalists of the Scottish Cup were decided with both favourites going through. It's now up to Hearts to try and stop the treble treble. Krys enjoys getting the two John's to talk about the second semi. Unfortunately there is yet more talk about sectarian abuse. We preview the upcoming Premiership games with talk about King's statement of Rangers being on verge of domination. Talk leads to some of the funniest things we've seen on twitter this week. The podcast concludes with some European chat and a happy ending for the two John's. Tweet us @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsInstagram - sffpodcast

  • S8E39 Coconut Shy

    09/04/2019 Duración: 01h11min

It's the two John's on this week and were joined by a returning guest Andy. We give him his full title as he is an award winning journalist. We start off by covering the Championship as Andy has been covering that league in depth this season. This is due to him being based in the Highlands. It's an alternative way to start and enjoyable to get more insight in to the league. It's going to be some end to the season with all teams having something to play for. Once this has been covered, we focus on the battle to avoid relegation with there being all to play for still. At the top of the table, Celtic continue to stumble over the finish line and Aberdeen got their first home league win of 2019. It looks like Rangers are close to securing second but plenty of football to be played before European spots are decided. The chat links in well with the upcoming Scottish Cup semis which John B has covered on his blog. Will we see an upset or two or will the favourites go through? Andy gives us an insight in to the build

  • S8E38 Meena's Coupon

    01/04/2019 Duración: 57min

The two John's are rejoined by Krys, who is back from his holidays. St Mirren bounced back from Simeone Jackson's failed Panenka attempt in Perth to defeat Dundee in the Basement Battle, overhauling Jim McIntyre's men into 11th place. Hamilton's leaky defence was exposed by Kilmarnock, who cruised to a 5-0 win to move into third. It was a good weekend for the Capital sides with Hibs and Hearts claiming 2-1 wins, closing in on 4th place Aberdeen in the process. Motherwell kept their outside top six aspirations alive with a comfortable win at home to St Johnstone. The third Old Firm meeting was again not short of incident. What value is Alfredo Morelos given his lack of discipline and lack of productivity in big games? Celtic moved to within three wins of an 8th consecutive title with a late James Forrest winner. In the Championship, the battle for survival intensified with just five points separating five teams, whilst Ross County maintained a two point lead with two games in hand despite losing to Alloa. Leag

  • S8E37 Scotland's Special Bru

    25/03/2019 Duración: 47min

It's the two John's on this week in the week that no one wants to probably talk about the national team. A dire situation with few signs that things are progressing under McLeish. Was Thursday's result the worst in our history? It didn't get much better on Sunday but at least they won. The guys discuss what could have gone better. The lower leagues are covered with the season getting close to deciding who plays where next season. This leads on to the usual Pyramid chat and what may happen next season. We wrap up by congratulating Ross County on their Challenge Cup win and giving a preview of the weekend's Premiership return. • S8E36 Halkett's Souttars

    18/03/2019 Duración: 01h25s

It's the two John's on this week as Krys takes a break. Plenty to cover with the action from last midweek with the quarter final replays. Aberdeen continued their fine form in Glasgow against the odds while Hearts were fortunate in other game. Hibs continued their unbeaten league run since Heckinbottom took charge. The man that left Hibs saw his team get another late winner as they move closer to winning the title. Rangers continue their winless run as they struggle with physical contests. Aberdeen saw their woes at home continue and Hamilton hot another crucial win in battle to avoid the drop. The lower leagues didn't see too much change at the top due to so few games being played. There is some Scotland chat ahead of the double header. John B covers the polls that have been running on social media in terms of how many points we'll get. John B concludes the podcast with his football travels taking him to Preston. Thanks for listening. Tweet us @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsInstagram - sffpodc

  • S8E35 A Real Six Pointer

    11/03/2019 Duración: 01h18min

It's the naughty boys on this week as Krys and John are let loose. John B handed in a sick note with no explanation. They lead with the Celtic v Aberdeen game which didn't amount to much. Unfortunately Friday night saw further crowd trouble as Hibs fan invaded the pitch and tackled Tavernier. Maybe this will finally lead to some rule changes in terms of how these matters are dealt with. Motherwell's young guns continue to impress in the week that Hastie was linked with a move away. The lower leagues are covered with most of the entertainment coming in lower end of Championship as relegation battle gets more interesting. Albion Rovers won two games in one day hence the podcast title. The Scottish Cup semis are previewed with most of the media talk revolving around it being a massive game for Rangers on Tuesday. The podcast ends with some Scotland news in terms of McGregor retiring and 80s random chat. Tweet us @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsInstagram - sffpodcast
