One of the very first commands we have as christians in terms of our growth is the development of the fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the teacher but it is our responsibility to cultivate the attitude for those fruits to grow. In the current climate in America what better proving ground is there when the past 4 years have seen division the likes never seen. So what keeps us from advancing in the fruit of the Spirit? the old nature and our respone to the competing fruit of the flesh. YES the old nature has it's own well blossomed sinful fruit that absolutely will try to mask as justifiable but we know that it is not. Depression and the christian life are bed fellows. They go hand in hand but you wouldn't know it by listening to christian preachers and teachers today. They paint a pretty picture with their smiles, uplifting and warm sermons with colorful stories to boot. I am talking about tales of triumphs and encouregment that can put to shame many Lifetime movies. Depression is very much a sinful issue becaus of what sin does to the body as well as the soul. God v American continues with a homegrown epidemic that is now in the headlines. What is more traditional than an apple pie? Oppression. It isn't a stranger ot the human condition since we are the ones that institutue it. We live in it, create it as well as thrive in it if we are on the other side of. More often than not we are not. But to understand oppression better we need to know what God says about oppression first. I hope you take a listen to this current episode. I may or may not cover extend this to a part 2 but for now I think we will get the idea of what biblical oppression is as said by God Himself.

When God judges a nation of hypocrisy He does so with mercy in mind. God leaves room to repent before the gavel slams down on His verdict. So what is the problem? Much like Jonah, American Christians lay in the bed our bed of bias, prejudices and idolatry. Christians have fallen back into the sin of looking to working worldly system to help this nation when what is needed was to share the gospel.
