ऑस्ट्रेलिया में चुनावी मुद्दों में आवास एक प्रमुख मुद्दा बनकर उभरा है, दोनों प्रमुख दल इस संकट से निपटने के लिए वोटरों के सामने अपनी योजनाएं पेश कर रहे हैं। प्रधान मंत्री एंथनी अल्बानीज़ी ने पहली बार घर खरीदने वालों के लिए 5 प्रतिशत जमा योजना और 100,000 नए किफायती घरों के निर्माण का वादा किया है। वहीं, विपक्षी नेता पीटर डटन ने वित्तीय दबाव को कम करने के लिए पहली बार घर खरीदने वालों को कर कटौती के रूप में ब्याज भुगतान की अनुमति देने का प्रस्ताव दिया है। हालांकि, मेलबर्न यूनिवर्सिटी के रियल एस्टेट विशेषज्ञ प्रोफेसर पीयूष तिवारी ने चेतावनी दी है कि अकेले सरकार द्वारा किफायती घर बनाना ही इस संकट का एक स्थायी समाधान नहीं है।
