Well, here it is. It may have taken us two weeks, cost us our sanity, tested our friendship, and killed three of Jorge's cousins, but damnit, we have a new episode! Things have been a little shaky for everyone the last few weeks and here at the Who Goes There Podcast is no exception. We lost three episodes to the podcasting gods after having to record remotely for the first time in seven years. That, in conjunction with the release calendar looking pretty slim we jumped at the chance to review a NEW horror movie! This week we bring you 2020's We Summon The Darkness, a movie about satanists, or not. First and foremost, we apologize for missing an episode last week. We are committed to bringing you new and exciting content during this global pandemic. Well, at least committed to bringing you NEW content. During the last two weeks we have recorded three new episodes (The Host, The Hunt, The Fly) and we have managed to mess up every one of those episodes. You see, in the 7 years we have been a show we have never recorded remotely and for good reason. Follow me, as I reminisce about a time long ago known as 1993. I was ten years old, in fourth grade, and really wanted to wear my clothes backwards like Kris Kross. MTV had a show called the "Top 20 Video Countdown" and everyday for months the top spot came down to a battle between Collective Soul's "Shine" and a video of a hairy, shirtless man, yelling about children walking on his lawn. That second video, was my introduction to Glenn Danzig. Fast forward 27 years and the North Side King's biggest fan has written and directed a movie adaptation of a comic book he wrote a loooooong ass time ago. The angsty little ten year old inside of me was ecstatic. Then the movie was referred to as "the horror equivalent of The Room". That movie, is Verotika, this episode is on that movie. Alia is back to discuss After Midnight with the idiots.  We started this show in 2013 and the very first episode we did was on an unknown zombie film called The Battery. During the episode, we were fortunate enough to talk to director Jeremy Gardner who told us about the film he wanted to make next. Seven years later that film has been released under the name After Midnight. In 2010, Dread Central and a few other horror sites joined together to stream Pig, the new movie from director Adam Mason. The film was only streamed for a limited time, and if you missed it, too bad. Pig was never officially released, and despite a few over-priced bootlegs popping up at conventions, Pig had essentially vanished. Vanished that is, until 2017. In 2017 director Adam Mason announced that Pig would screen at SXSW for two nights, and then never again; this would be the only public screening of the film. When asked why the film was never released Adam Mason has said everything from he hates the film, to wanting to create that “holy grail” film. You know, the kind of film you only hear about, but can’t find, but your friend’s brother’s classmate’s uncle “totally has a copy”. Generally, when the horror community hears the word “remake” we all collectively groan and roll our eyes. More often than not, the remake fails to capture what audiences loved about the source material. Every so often, a remake will come along that not only pays homage to an already great film, it carves out it’s own place in cinema history. As of 2020, no one will say that about The Grudge. I pride myself on my depravity. In fact, when starting this podcast my goal was to introduce people to the most depraved, fucked up movies I could find. Despite being in my late thirties, not having any children, and living in a place that has never seen snow, I still love Christmas! I just love all the twinkling lights, the endless supply of baked goods, and the feeling of togetherness just warms my cold black heart. A few years ago we were invited to our first ever screening at San Diego Comic Con, and needless to say we were totes stoked. The episode following that screening has gone down in the annals of Who Goes There history as one of our most insane episodes ever. The movie we saw that fateful night, was The Gallows. The amount of anger present in that episode was so strong the term “Gallows mad” was coined. Now it’s about 5 years later and there is a sequel underthe incredibly original name The Gallows: Act 2. Did y’all ever watch a movie called Prayer of the Rollerboys? It’s this early 90’s gem starring Corey Haim about a gang of rollerbladers who wear trenchcoats and peddle this weird drug called “mist”. This week’s film has nothing to do with that movie, except both introduced us to fun new drugs! In fact, this week’s film teaches us that the best way to deal with a creative block is to do lots of drugs and have sex with everyone you meet! That’s right, dorks; this week we will be discussing Bliss, (review at 34:06) the new film (and drug) created by Joe Begos, the mind behind Almost Human, The Mind’s Eye, and the forthcoming V.F.W..
