Episodios

  • Episode 2 - Sand In The Mic

    05/02/2016 Duración: 58min

We're back just in time to discuss all the racing and hour record attempts that have happened since last time we spoke. There's cyclocross world championships (and controversies), there's track action (tracktion? - bet nobody's ever made that pun before) and there's the beautiful windy deserts of Qatar! This week it sounds a bit like the sands from Qatar were caught in Sarah's mic, but we blame that squarely on something in the last skype update. Apologies for the sometimes dodgy audio quality, we did our best!

  • Sarah interviews.... Wiggle High5 DS Egon van Kessel

    27/01/2016 Duración: 32min

Egon van Kessel is one of the great Directeurs Sportifs in the women's peloton. After his own cycling career, he moved to directing, and among his achievements are many years coaching and managing the women's and men's Dutch National Team, through Olympics, World Championships and more, and DSing for some of the biggest names in the women's peloton, including USA Saturn, in the 1990s, and the much-missed Cervélo Test Team in the 2000s. In 2014 he demonstrated why he has such a great reputation, taking over a Wiggle Honda team that was stuffed full of big personalities, and ending the season at the top of the UCI rankings with an amazing four Road World Cup wins. I talked to him about how he did it, what his biggest achievements have been, his plans for Wiggle High5's 2016 season, and more. • Bridie did it! Sarah interviews Bridie O'Donnell on beating the Hour Record

    24/01/2016 Duración: 01h13min

On Friday 22nd January Australian cyclist Bridie O'Donnell took on the UCI's Hour Record - how far a rider can cycle in an hour - and won! Her distance of 46.882 km was set in Adelaide, in front of a happy Aussie crowd, and a stream watched all around the world. She spoke to me while she was still on a high, before she headed into work on Monday, and told me all about how it went on the day, the work that lead up to it, and how she got through a last-minute attack of 'impostor syndrome', saddle sores and much more. She also answered some fan questions from Twitter, and a LOT more. • Episode 1 - Everything Is On Fire

    21/01/2016 Duración: 56min

In our first episode back for 2016 we have so much cycling to discuss it's staggering. There's cyclocross, track stuff, road stuff, crit stuff, and also the usual swearing, laughing and carrying on that we do. We talk about the Bay Crits, Road Nationals and Women's Tour Down Under in Australia. We also cover the Tour de San Luis and a heap of other stuff. It's only the third week of January and there's already SO MUCH ON! For links to everything we talked about, including a ton of race videos, head over here: http://prowomenscycling.com/2016/01/21/podcast-2016-episode-1-everything-is-on-fire/

  • Australian Adventures! Sarah Interviews Vale Scandolara

    02/01/2016 Duración: 22min

Vale Scandolara is a fan favourite for her exciting racing, and for her friendly and positive personality, and given she's such a sunny person, it only seems right that she's escaped the European winter to race in the Australian Summer of Cycling. She told me how Italian bike clothing company Alé enabled her to set up her own team for the Bay Crits, what it felt like being in that final break in the 2015 Road World Championships and to nearly make it, and about her plans for 2016, with her new team Cylance. And I also had a quick chat with her Bay Crits team-mate Julie Leth, who's back from injury, finally, and just became officially Australian, having won the Aussie Madison Championships with Nettie Edmondson. • 2015 Episode 34 - Solstice - Mas

    24/12/2015 Duración: 56min

Our now traditional Christmas Eve episode (or Solstice of whatever)! We catch up on the world of cyclocross, talk about the ASO vs UCI nonsense and a couple of other dumb things that are annoying before getting back to being full of joy and good cheer as we look ahead to 2016 and all that it entails. See all the links to things we've talked about and mentioned here - http://prowomenscycling.com/2015/12/24/podcast-2015-episode-34-solstice-mas/

  • Increasing everyday cycling: Sarah interviews Dr Rachel Aldred

    23/12/2015 Duración: 40min

There are a lot of theories on how to get more people riding their bikes, and what stops people cycling, but some of the most interesting research in the UK is being done by Dr Rachel Aldred, a Senior Lecturer in Transport at the University of Westminster. She's got a really interesting perspective, coming at transport policy from a background in sociology, and she's especially interesting for her approach of looking at how social, cultural and infrastructure issues interact, and also her focus on diversity in cycling - including specific issues around cycling for women, older people, Black and other minority ethnic communities, disabled people, children and more. We talked about what her research has shown her about barriers that stop people cycling, what more could be done, and the initiative she set up last year, the Near Miss Project, and what that's already showing about attitudes to cycling. This is naturally a little bit UK-focused, but there's so much here that will be applicable everywhere, so if

  • Podcast 2015, Episode 33 - Australia!

    18/12/2015 Duración: 01h01min

Monique Hanley is a former bike racer who does a ton of work promoting cycling, especially women's cycling, and especially through her roles on the Executive Board of Cycling Victoria, and as chair of Cycling Australia's Women's Commission, and she's one of my very favourite people in cycling. She joined me on the podcast to tell me all about the Aussie Summer of Cycling, and why we should all be meeting up in Melbourne and Adelaide for January 2017. January is an amazing month for Australian road cycling, and it's fantastic to see the strong UCI mini-season for the women back Down Under. We talked about how cycling has changed for the country - and given Monique's roles in Cycling Federations, we also talked about the recent Genèvieve Jeanson podcast and story on Cyclingnews, and what cycling bodies can learn from her experience, and prevent anything similar happening in the future. • Couriering and other adventures: Sarah Interviews Emily Chappell

    17/12/2015 Duración: 48min

For six years, Emily Chappell was a cycle courier in London, living that dream of cycling-as-livelihood, and she's now written a book about her life. Of course it focuses on that courier lifestyle, but it weaves in so much more - stories about living in the city, romance and heartbreak, psychogeography, love of cycling, and addressing that glamour around couriering, and how it's changed and changing. I talked to Chappell about how she moved from blogging to writing, how couriering lead to bigger bike adventures (Cycling solo across Europe to Japan! Riding across Alaska on a fatbike in winter! Moving into ultra-endurance racing!) and lots more. This is a long interview (sorry Emily!) so there's a write-up of parts of it it over on Podium Café: http://www.podiumcafe.com/2015/12/17/10312928/interview-emily-chappell Click through to my blog for all the links of things we talked about, and for the opportunity to win a free copy of the book: http://prowomenscycling.com/2015/12/17/sarah-interviews-emily-chappe

We talked about her tough 2015, and how she's bounced back, and a lot more, including roadkill recipes...
