How to Transition Your Portfolio to Work You Really Want
21/06/2021 Duración: 08minHow do I know when to transition my portfolio? It's a classic question because it's a paradox. If you want to get hired, press pause on the stuff that's not absolutely crucial. And go make the stuff you want to get hired to create. A convoluted and broad portfolio does not allow you to make a name for yourself. So build a portfolio with your spare time, money and energy to get the work you really want. A few other keys: > Market yourself as the thing you want to be, not the thing that's paying the bills right now > Your portfolio is constantly evolving. It's okay to put it out there without it being perfect. Perfectionism is a major block > How can you put more of YOU in your photos, work, business etc. What is your unique upbringing, perspective, or interests? Bring all that good stuff into the next phase of your portfolio The bottom line: your portfolio has to look like the work you want to do. Enjoy! --- Today's episode is brought to you by CreativeLive. Dream First, Details Later with Ellen Bennett
12/05/2021 Duración: 01h16minOne of the most common stories I hear is, "I'm not ready yet." You have a dream, a goal, an ambition, but without the connections, skills, or resources it feels out of reach. Social media makes it easy to see others' success without showing the REAL stuff. Late nights, blood, sweat, tears… the messy middle doesn't make the highlight reel. This mindset undermines our confidence and inhibits creativity. Chances are, you do have what you need to get started. Today's show is going to prove it to you. Ellen Bennett, Founder of Hedley and Bennett and author of DREAM FIRST, DETAILS LATER, lifts the curtains to talk about her uncertain, circuitous, passion-driven journey. After a difficult divorce at age 9, Ellen was raised by her mother, who worked long hours to keep the lights on and the family fed. At 18, a two-month trip to Mexico turned into 4 years before Ellen returned to the U.S., walked in the back door of a Michelin star restaurant and asked for a job as a line cook. There, she observed the challenges cooks

How to Become a Pro in 5 Simple Steps
26/04/2021 Duración: 11minI received a note the other day from an aspiring photographer. He wanted to know what it takes to become a pro. I thought--very pragmatically--that it's really not complicated. HARD maybe, but complicated, no. In this episode, I cover the 5 key steps to becoming a pro. Now, if you're thinking - Chase, it is a bunch of fluff.... Well, of course. Here's the truth: This isn't really about how to become a pro. It's about how to commit to something. There are a zillion steps to becoming a pro. Days, weeks, years of work on the craft. But the #1 thing I see absent in people who SAY they want it....it a lack of commitment. This is usually because of fear. Fear that you won't be able to support yourself and MAKE A LIVING - WHICH IS WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A PROFESSIONAL. The reality is that you probably either want to become a pro and still need to do the following things; or you don't want it. In the former case - that you DO want to become a pro and - then this episode is a 'you can do this / get off your ass' message
