  • #038 - The Tracks Awards 2016 - Best Live Performance, Best Album Artwork & Best Newcomer

    08/12/2016 Duración: 01h09min

2016 is drawing to a close, and what a year it has been. So much amazing music has been released and so many incredible artists have shone. But forget the Grammys, the real recognition this work needs is here, and it's coming from The Tracks Awards.   All four of our episodes in December will be dedicated to paying tribute to our favourite releases this year, and this week we're focusing on three categories - best live performance, best album artwork and best newcomer. With shouts for the likes of Bon Iver, James Blake, Ezra Furman and The Big Moon, it's a bumper episode and the perfect way to kick off our December season. So sit back, grab yourself a mince pie and start a new annual tradition with The Tracks Awards. We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. • #037 - Super Sunday

    29/11/2016 Duración: 01h13min

Who doesn't love a Sunday? Lay-ins, good food and great company. In many ways it's the best day of the week.   Well, this we spent last Sunday evening in the studio discussing the perfect music to end the week with, just for you, and came up with some absolute bangers. We're not going to lie to you, this episode is a bit of a ramble. Our relaxed Sunday attitudes lead us down many a tangent, but with plenty of laughs and tunes from the likes of The Streets, Doves, Mac Demarco, Paul Weller and The Stone Roses it ended up being pretty damn huge. Maybe even too huge for a Sunday? Who knows. As Drake would say, if you're reading this it's too late. We already love you for taking an interest in our podcast. The biggest of thank you's to every single one of you. We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. 15/11/2016 Duración: 52min

Part two of our wide ranging chat with Archie and Jack (two thirds of Brighton band Mindofalion) sees us continue our journey into the roots of their music, their biggest influences and, most importantly, their old, new, borrowed, blue song selections. In a wide ranging conversation spanning two episodes, we cover everything from Foals, Rage Against The Machine, The Specials and Autolux and virtually everything in between. A great conversation and two of our favourite guests thus far, this episode really isn't one to be missed. To sit back, relax and enter the Mindofalion's den. • #034 - Live at Whitney

    08/11/2016 Duración: 54min

Last Thursday Whitney, one of our favourite bands of 2016, touched down in Brighton to play a headline slot at The Haunt. We were lucky enough to be there and, in a Tracks first, we bring you our coverage of what was a spectacular gig and a brilliant night. There are dispatches from the front line, tips on where to start with your new-found Whitney fandom and plenty of laughs as we chat before and after the show. You'll feel like you were there, only without the following day hangovers. Elsewhere there's musical highlights of the week from CRX and Forth Wanderers and a few little surprises too. Thank you for downloading. You're the best. Have a great week and we'll see you on Tuesday. We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. • #033 - Our Musical Calendar

    01/11/2016 Duración: 55min

If musicians were dedicated a month, what would it be and why? That's the question we decided to ask ourselves for this episode as, for the first time in Tracks history, our release date falls on the first day of the month. The links may be tenuous, but the tracks certainly are not. They're fantastic. Expect bangers from the likes of Drenge, Pond, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and The Drums in a fun filled episode. Elsewhere, we're back with our first musical highlights in a few weeks. Kind Midas Sound and Supa Bwe receive the shoutouts this week with tunes that we literally can't stop listening to. Once you've heard them, we're sure you'll be hooked too. Massive thanks for downloading. You're the best. See you next week. We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. • #032 - A Vinyl Connection with Lizzie Garrett

    25/10/2016 Duración: 01h16min

It's a special episode this week, as Tim's sister Lizzie joins us in the studio to take us through her musical preferences. Expect huge tracks from the likes of Morrissey and Johnny Cash, as well as plenty of sibling ramblings. So it's a huge thank you to Lizzie for coming on the show, and an even bigger thank you to everyone who downloads this episode. You're all A-grade humans and we love you. • #031 - The Long-Awaited Comeback

    18/10/2016 Duración: 01h10min

This week marks 5 years since Manchester legends The Stone Roses announced they were returning from a 15 year hiatus. It was a moment of massive excitement for us as fans of the band, and we decided to mark the anniversary with an episode all about the comeback. As is usually the case, we picked three songs each on our theme, and this week our shouts were pretty huge (even if we do say so ourselves). Blur, Sleater-Kinney, Pulp, De La Soul, The Libertines and Mink Muscle Creek all receive praise in an episode bursting with huge tunes. Away from that, there are musical highlights of the week from Donald Glover in the form of his new TV show Atlanta, and from the BBC's World Service podcast. So thank you so much for downloading, we love you for it. If you love us too, don't forget to rate and review us! See you next week. • #030 - Back to Basics

    11/10/2016 Duración: 01h04min

To celebrate reaching our 30th episode, we decided to take it back to where it all began. Our day ones out there will know that Tracks kicked off with us picking four songs each - an old song, a new song, a borrowed song and a blue song - and today we're doing the same again. Is this because we've run out of ideas? Hopefully not. Really, we just wanted another excuse to share amazing songs with you from the likes of Norma Fraser, Savoy Motel, Cornershop and Songhoy Blues. So it's a huge thank you to everyone who has downloaded and supported us thus far, and if you want to make sure you don't miss any of our next 30 episodes, be sure to hit that subscribe button. • #029 - A "BIG" W∑∑K

    04/10/2016 Duración: 01h10min

What a week it has been in the world of music. We've been inundated with new releases by acts we love, and as such could think of no better use of this week's podcast than to round them up for you, our wonderful listeners. We start out with the fantastic, Julian Casablancas produced "City Club" by The Growlers, and from there head on a whilstle-stop tour of new records from the likes of Solange, Warpaint, Slaves and Regina Spektor. The climax of the episode, however, is reserved for one man. We have looked forward to the release of Bon Iver's "22, A Million" more than almost any other album this year, and now that it's finally here, we give our verdict. Thank you so much for downloading, we love you for it. If you love us too, don't forget to rate and review us! Thanks! We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. • #028 - Uni Days

    27/09/2016 Duración: 01h15min

Freshers' Week is in full swing across the UK, so this week we decided to take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about the old days, when we were young enough to be at university ourselves.  But away from the tales of our long lost youth, there's also a ton of great music on show. With a student night floor filler from Darwin Deez, an Alt-J university classic and a perfect revision soundtrack from Ghostpoet amongst the music selection, it's a bumper show this week. So thank you so much for downloading, we love you for it. If you love us too, don't forget to rate and review us! Thanks! We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. • #027 - Long Time Listener, First Time Caller with Emily Hogarth

    20/09/2016 Duración: 48min

This week we're joined by our friend, the wonderful Emily Hogarth. As a new arrival in Brighton, we decided to welcome her in the only way we know how - by requesting her old, new, borrowed blue selections.  More prepared than any guest we've had before, Emily absolutely smashed it with her selections. Featuring the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Solange and Ane Brun, she delivers a brilliantly interesting and varied episode of music. So thank you Emily for coming on the show, and thank you to everyone who downloads this episode. You're all the best humans there are. • #026 - The Not So Difficult Second Album

    13/09/2016 Duración: 59min

Second albums are a notoriously tricky obstacle for many musicians, but this week we celebrate the anniversary of the release of Nirvana's seminal second album 'Nevermind' by tipping our hats to acts made equally big steps forward with theirs. Hot Chip, Jamie T, Mystery Jets and Interpol are amongst the acts who receive shouts in what rapidly becomes an unabashed trip down memory lane for us. These are acts and albums we loved during our teenage years, and playing them again was a real joy for us. Hopefully hearing them will be for you too. Away from second albums, there's a first in our musical highlights section as we share one selection - the incredible new documentary 'The Beatles: Eight Days A Week - The Touring Years'. We were lucky enough to be invited to an advanced screening of the film and loved it so much that we couldn't possible pick separate highlights. It's that good. So sit back, relax and enjoy episode 26 of Tracks. We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. Our

  • #025 - Back to the Feature

    06/09/2016 Duración: 57min

Today's episode marks a quarter-century milestone for Tracks, and we celebrated the only way we know how - with a few beers and a lot of music chat. The release day also happens to be the anniversary of the legendary collaboration between The Beatles and Eric Clapton on George Harrison's classic 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'. With this in mind, we decided to take a look at some of our favourite tracks which feature other artists. Spoiler alert: Nas, Edwyn Collins and SBTRKT are amongst those who receive shoutouts. Away from the features, we also have our traditional musical highlights of the week. This time around they're courtesy of The Avalanches and Foals, both of whom have got us particularly excited this week. So sit back, marvel at the magnificence that is Tracks' first block of 25 episodes and, most importantly, enjoy a trip back to the feature. • #024 - 2016 So Far (Part 2)

    30/08/2016 Duración: 01h06min

2016 continues to be an absolutely incredible year for music, so we thought it was about time we checked in with part two of our 2016 So Far series. Splitting the year up into thirds may be an unconventional decision, but we're unconventional kinda guys. Some of the selections were, in all honesty, almost made for us. The returns of the likes of Frank Ocean and Bon Iver simply couldn't be overlooked, but there are also shouts for more niche releases such as Kane Strang's debut and Ace Records' Let It Be compilation. There's also our highlights of the week, with Tim paying tribute to the legend that is Morrissey who he was lucky enough to see live this week. So, in honour of 2016, sit back, #PrayForHarambe and enjoy us being the definition of #SquadGoals in episode #024 of Tracks. We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. • #023 - Acts We Missed

    23/08/2016 Duración: 01h02min

In a slightly delayed episode, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Queen's final gig with legendary frontman Freddie Mercury by discussing which acts we wish we could have seen, but sadly will never be able to. Our picks this week are extremely varied, taking you from 2 Tone legends The Specials all the way through to Odd Future founder Tyler, The Creator, so there really is something for everyone. There are also shouts for our musical highlights of this week, which come from Jagwar Ma and Michael Kiwanuka. So sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. • #022 - Flagship Content with Dan Brooks of Meatloaf at Mary's & Moulton Deluxe

    16/08/2016 Duración: 01h02min

This week we're joined by another fantastic guest in the shape of Dan Brooks. Not only is he a good mate of ours, but he's also without a shadow of a doubt the best guitarist we know. Featuring in no less than three bands currently, he's certainly well-versed in all things music, so we thought we'd dust off the 'old, new, borrowed, blue' format and discover some of the tracks he loves. With shouts for the likes of Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, Dan takes us through some of the most legendary names in music, whilst also introducing us to Whitney, a new band out of Chicago who we have grown to love since recording this episode. So sit back, relax and enjoy what can only be described as some flagship content. We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. • #021 - Happy Faces - A Tribute to The Maccabees

    09/08/2016 Duración: 01h21min

Yesterday at Tracks HQ, hearts audibly broke. On the morning of Monday 8th August, one of our all-time favourite bands The Maccabees called it a day and we immediately went into mourning. Rather than mope around the house, however, we decided to pull ourselves together and record a part tribute podcast, part group therapy session. This is the result. We go through our history with the band, telling stories and sharing memories connected to each of their four incredible albums and playing the songs we love the most. There are requests from other bereaved listeners, and plenty of emotion that anybody who has ever truly loved a band will relate to. So grab the tissues, put on your best Maccabees t-shirt and join us in saluting one of the most unique and important bands of their generation. Here's to you Orlando, Hugo, Felix, Rupert and Sam. Thanks for everything. We do not claim ownership of any of the music played in this episode. Our theme tune is Ice Cold by Audionautix and is licensed under a Creative Co
