Episodios

  • Being Lutheran Episode #93 – The Sixth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 2

    23/10/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their discussion of the Sixth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from Martin Luther’s small and large catechisms.  As we are tempted, we fail to understand how deep our own depravity goes.  God knows how bad we are in our sin, and if he were to reveal that to us, it would crush us.  At the same time, Christ died for us while we were still sinners.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode 92 – The Sixth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 1

    16/10/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason began a study on the Sixth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from Martin Luther’s small and large catechisms.  In the Lord’s Prayer, we remember that God is already working and he is doing so without our help.  In the Sixth Petition, God is working by not leading us into temptation.  We are immediately reminded that he works for our care and our comfort.  He does not want us to fail.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #91 – Matt. 18:21-35

    09/10/2018 Duración: 24min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason conclude their examination of the Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible Study on the parable of the unforgiving servant from Matt. 18:21-35.  In this parable, we focus on the absurdity of the king wanting to settle accounts with his servants and allow that to teach us that the grace of God in Jesus Christ is not required, but God still freely offers it.  This parable demonstrates to us the depth of our sin that God has forgiven.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #90 – Isaiah 6:1-8

    02/10/2018 Duración: 25min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their examination of the Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible Study on Isaiah 6:1-8.  We should not be clamoring to be in God’s presence unless we are clamoring to be forgiven.  As Isaiah enters into God’s presence, he cries out, “Woe is me!”  When God hides himself in human flesh, he redeems us.  The reason why we are not consumed by God’s holiness now is because of the blood of the Lamb.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #89 – The Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 2

    25/09/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their discussion of the Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from Martin Luther’s small and large catechism.  The Church needs to be about the “business” of applying the Gospel and forgiveness.  The nature of the Gospel is to proclaim that God forgives without stopping.  Our failure to forgive others, in turn, reveals a complete misunderstanding of the nature of God’s forgiveness.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #88 – The Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 1

    18/09/2018 Duración: 26min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason begin their examination of the Fifth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from Martin Luther’s small and large catechisms.  The Fifth Petition is the heart and soul of the of the Gospel.  Our lives as Christians are built on and surrounded by the promises of the Gospel.  The Gospel should be something that constantly amazes us, because the forgiveness of our sins is something that is totally and wholly undeserved.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #87 – KKMS Radio, Part 4

    04/09/2018 Duración: 21min

In this episode, we have the fourth and final part of our radio interview with Dr. Nathan Olson on AM 980 KKMS in the Twin Cities.  In these final two segments we discuss modern misconceptions of Lutheranism, theodicy, and baptism.  As we close this series, we want to give a huge thank you to Dr. Olson, Lee Michaels, and KKMS for giving us the opportunity to be on the show.  Thanks so much!

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #86 – KKMS Radio, Part 3

    28/08/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, we post the third of four parts of our time live on the air at AM 980 KKMS with Dr. Nathan Olson.  The topics for this segment of the interview are “Christ Alone” and “Soli Deo Gloria”.  The church has one thing that you can’t get anywhere else – the Gospel.  As such, all theology should point to Christ just as all Scripture points to Christ.  Because of the salvation delivered to us in Jesus Christ, God’s will for the Christian is loving our neighbors in our vocation.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #85 – KKMS Radio, Part 2

    22/08/2018 Duración: 20min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their interview with Dr. Nathan Olson as he fills in for Lee Michaels on AM 980 KKMS.  They begin the episode by examining “Grace Alone” and what that looks like for sinners who are addicted to the Law.  That discussion transitions to “Faith Alone”, where the four pastors acknowledge that faith isn’t our contribution to our salvation.  We are all dead in sin apart from what God has done for us in Jesus Christ, so we cannot contribute anything positive to salvation.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #84 – KKMS Radio, Part 1

    14/08/2018 Duración: 24min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason join Dr. Nathan Olson on the air in Minneapolis as we fill in for the Lee Michaels show on AM 980 KKMS.  We discuss how the podcast started and the appeal of Lutheran theology, as well as examine the meaning of the first “Sola” of the Reformation: Word Alone.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #83 – Matt. 6:25-34

    07/08/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason conclude their examination of the Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible study on Matthew 6:25-34.  God wants us to know him as good.  He provides everything you need even before you know you need it.  The culmination of this goodness is the absolution that is delivered by the Gospel which provides assurance of salvation.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #82 – Psalm 23

    31/07/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their study of the Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible study on Psalm 23.  In the same way a shepherd tends and cares for the sheep, our Father in heaven tends, cares for, and provides daily bread for his creatures, whether they deserve it or not.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #81 – The Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 2

    24/07/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their discussion of the Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer.  Often times in our lives, God’s sovereignty shows up as daily bread.  God also uses us to provide daily bread for other people as we love and serve God in our vocations.  Praying the Fourth Petition is a call to faith, a call to trust, but also a call to confess our sin of self-sufficiency.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #80 – The Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 1

    17/07/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason begin their examination of the Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer.  The explanation to the Fourth Petition is so expansive in covering our daily needs that the Christian should realize how much God delights in providing for us.  Luther seems to be eliminating our need for prayer in the first four petitions of the Lord’s Prayer, but in that, we begin to realize that prayer is for our comfort.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #79 – Ephesians 6:10-18

    10/07/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason conclude their discussion of the Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible study on Eph. 6:10-18.  Spiritual Warfare is a misunderstood topic in American Christianity, but it is intimately connected to our prayer life, as we learn in Ephesians.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #78 – Micah 6:6-8

    03/07/2018 Duración: 24min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their discussion of the Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible study on Micah 6:6-8.  God’s will (most of the time) shows up as the Law.  Certainly, God wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4), but when we talk about what God requires of us, we are working in the realm of God’s Law.  God’s Word is designed to be known and remembered.  The church should be interested in areas of social justice, because God commands justice and because in the Gospel, Christians are free to do justice.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #77 – Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 2

    27/06/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their discussion of the Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer from Luther’s Large and Small Catechisms.  We live our lives in our vocations and don’t have to try to be people we are not.  God has gifted us for his particular use in his kingdom.  God’s will happens without our help, but he chooses to use us for his good.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #76 – Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 1

    12/06/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason begin their discussion of the Third Petition of the Lord’s Prayer.  God’s will, first and foremost, is for us to be saved.  He gives us freedom to make decisions in matters of reason (what to wear, where to work, etc.), but he has taken care of everything we need for salvation because we are dead in our sin.  The freedom we have in day-to-day life is governed by God’s Law.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #75 – Q & A Giveaway

    05/06/2018 Duración: 26min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason answer listener questions and give away free copies of the book “God at Work” by Gene Veith.  Congratulations to our first four winners!
