Episodios

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #74 – Matt. 16:13-19

    29/05/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason conclude their examination of the Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible study on Matt. 16:13-19.  As we remember that the Kingdom of God comes on its own apart from our help, we remember that the Church does not die – the gates of hell will never prevail against it.  The foundation of the Church as the Kingdom of God is Peter’s confession and the practice of the Church as the Kingdom of God is the Absolution.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #73 – Jeremiah 31:31-34

    22/05/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their discussion of the Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible study on Jeremiah 31:31-34.  The Kingdom of God has always been a matter of preaching and applying the Gospel, even in the Old Testament.  The reason we can live our lives in our vocations in the here and now is because eternity has been taken care of for us by God himself.  The Kingdom of God is about God’s action for us to make us his people.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #72 – Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 2

    15/05/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their discussion on the Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer.  The American Church is addicted to creating emergencies and then dedicating copious amounts of resources to address those man-made emergencies.  These usually stem from wrong views about what the Kingdom of God is or how the Kingdom of God comes.  “The Kingdom of God comes indeed without our prayer, but we pray it would come among us.”  The gates of hell will not prevail against God’s Kingdom.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #71 – Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer

    08/05/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason begin their discussion and examination of the Second Petition of the Lord’s Prayer.  The Kingdom of God is the preaching and proclamation of the Gospel.  The Second Petition is closely related to the Second and Third Articles of the Apostles’ Creed.  When we pray the Second Petition in the Lord’s Prayer, we are praying that God’s Kingdom would come among us.  This is done when the Word and Sacraments are rightly preached and administered in our congregations.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #70 – Matthew 28:16-20

    01/05/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason complete their examination of the First Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible study on Matthew 28:16-20.  Last week we talked about how God reveals his name to us in Exodus 3.  This week, we talk about why that matters for his people.  Jesus has called his disciples to make disciples, and in that process, he has promised both his power and his presence.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #69 – Exodus 3:13-15

    24/04/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their discussion of the First Article of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible study on Ex. 3:13-15.  In biblical times, names were often chosen to reflect either a character quality or to describe the circumstances surrounding a person’s birth.  The fundamental character qualities God reveals to us with his name is that he is and he acts.  God’s name was given to us for our benefit in prayer.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #68 – The First Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 2

    17/04/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their discussion of the First Petition of the Lord’s Prayer.  The First Petition reminds us that good doctrine and godly living go hand in hand.  God’s holiness and his judgment are wrapped up in the Gospel.  God works in his holiness to forgive our sins because he has declared (or “judged”) us to be righteous.  This assurance of salvation, in turn, frees us to live godly lives in service to our neighbor (vocation – surprise!).

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #67 – First Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, Part 1

    10/04/2018 Duración: 24min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason introduce the content of the Lord’s Prayer from Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms and begin their discussion on the First Petition.  Prayer does not need to be spontaneous to be “from the heart”.  The Lord’s Prayer not only teaches us how to pray, but what to pray for.  There is an intimate connection between the First Petition of the Lord’s Prayer and the Second Commandment.  Prayer is a gift to the Church and the Christian because we are comforted that God is still in charge.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #66 – John 16:5-11

    03/04/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason conclude their examination of the Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed by doing a Bible Study on John 16:5-11.  The Holy Spirit works in our lives to convict us of sin, to convict us of righteousness, and to convict us of judgment.  John 16:5-11 reins us in on the doctrine of the Holy Spirit and puts his work in proper perspective.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #65 – Psalm 32

    27/03/2018 Duración: 23min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason discuss the Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed by doing a Bible study on Psalm 32.  The major portion of sanctification is repentance for our sins, and the forgiveness of sins is the environment in which the Christian lives.  Our life of good works in loving our neighbors (vocation – surprise, surprise) flows from the assurance of salvation we receive for the forgiveness of sins.

  • Being Lutheran Podcast Episode #64 – The Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed, Part 2

    20/03/2018 Duración: 25min

    13/03/2018 Duración: 25min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason begin their examination of the Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed from Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms.  The main teaching of the Third Article directs our attention to the fact that the Gospel isn’t just for conversion.  It sustains and directs the entirety of the believer’s life and is integral for our sanctification as we continually receive forgiveness of sins even as Christians.

    06/02/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason begin their discussion of the Second Article of the Apostles’ Creed from Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms.  Key to Luther’s understanding of the Second Article was the word “Lord”.  We don’t make Jesus our Lord, he already is Lord, and for Luther, Jesus being our Lord mainly meant that Jesus is our Redeemer.

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason do a Bible study on the creation account in Genesis 1 & 2 as they continue to consider the Biblical implications of the First Article of the Creed.  Creation is both ordered and good, but ultimately it provides us with comfort because it demonstrates that God can create out of nothing, which is good for us because he creates our faith out of nothing as well.

    16/01/2018 Duración: 22min

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason conclude their examination of the explanation of the First Article of the Creed from Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms.  Included in the discussion is a reference to C.S. Lewis’ classic description of the creation of Narnia from “The Magicians Nephew”.  Creation serves primarily to proclaim God’s goodness and grace to us and to inform us that he loves us personally and personally cares for us.
