Are overseas tradies answer to the housing crisis?
17/06/2025 Duración: 05minPhil is joined by Garth Davis, a Property Expert, who suggests that Australia adopt a nationwide incentive similar to WA's 'Build a Life in WA' program, which offers $10,000 to New Zealand tradies to relocate. He believes this could address Australia's significant housing demand and supply issues, which are worsened by a shortage of local tradespeople hindering construction. Garth emphasizes that this solution requires streamlining visa processes to avoid lengthy delays that would deter overseas tradies. He poses the question: Would you hire an overseas tradie?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Are you a chronic over-flapper?
17/06/2025 Duración: 11minPhil is joined by Communications & Body Language Expert Jordana Borensztajn, who discusses how hand gestures can either enhance or distract from your message. Many people either gesture too much (over-flapping, like verbal filler) or too little. Jordana's first tip is to improve posture: an open chest and relaxed body reduce fidgeting and allow natural gestures. Her second tip is to use intentional gestures to emphasize specific words, creating impactful moments. However, it's important to find a balance, as excessive gesturing can seem theatrical, while too little can make you appear tense or detached.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Pepper spray for citizens - why not security guards?
16/06/2025 Duración: 07minPhil is joined by Gina Field, Operational Security Expert, Founder of Nepean Regional Security, who asks why pepper spray for will be available for citizens, but why not security guards? News the NT government is considering a trial to allow Territorians to carry pepper spray, giving them "lawful tools to protect themselves if needed" is common sense policy. But as someone who’s been advocating for over 5-years to allow security guards to carry pepper spray for self-defence, it’s ironic, and somewhat galling, that guards who face physical dangers daily, aren’t permitted the same option. NT would join WA as the only two jurisdictions to allow people to carry low strength Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray, like that used by police in Australia. After the horrific Bondi Junction stabbings, many guards now have stab proof vests and body cameras but remain completely unarmed. Surely, it’s now time, under strict conditions and with proper training, to allow security guards the freedom to carry p

Why TV panel shows are facing extinction
15/06/2025 Duración: 11minMike is joined by media commentator Nic Hayes to discuss why TV news panel shows are disappearing. The ABC’s recent axing of Q+A, following Ten’s cancellation of The Project and the earlier end of The Drum, signals a clear trend. These shows are simply too costly to sustain—high salaries, production costs, and shrinking audiences have made them unviable in today’s media landscape. The Project had been hanging on as Ten’s last national flagship, but even that wasn’t enough. Meanwhile, sports panel shows are booming across free-to-air, pay TV, and social media. So, are news panel shows doomed to extinction?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The lengths short men will go to for love
15/06/2025 Duración: 11minMike is joined by dating coach Karina Chapman, founder of Aligned Connections, to chat about her experience watching the new film Materialists. While she expected to assess the matchmaking angle, Karina and her friends ended up discussing a surprising subtheme—height. In the movie, two wealthy brothers undergo leg-lengthening surgery to boost their dating and business prospects. It’s a real-world issue too. Tinder recently added a height preference feature, sparking backlash—especially from shorter men who already feel judged. Karina says whether you’re a short guy or a tall girl, focusing too much on height can cause you to overlook a truly great match.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How to know if a relationship is worth it
15/06/2025 Duración: 09minRelationships don’t have to be perfect - but they should feel mutual. Bronwyn Penhaligon, Strategic Psychotherapist reveals to Mike that she sees so many people stuck in patterns where they’re always the one giving, explaining, or adjusting, while the other person stays passive or dismissive. Over time, that kind of imbalance chips away at self-worth. A relationship worth investing in is one where you feel safe to be honest, effort goesboth ways and growth is possible. If it’s only working when you are working overtime, it may not be a partnership - itmight be a project. So, ask yourself - “Do I feel more like myself in this relationship, or less?” Your answer will tell you a lot. When you’re around the right people you don’t shrink, you feel seen, respected, andsupported. Don’t ignore that data. As the saying goes, if it costs you your peace, it’s tooexpensive.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
