  • Conversation Street Episode 461

    13/03/2021 Duración: 02h51min

On our latest podcast, we chat about all things Corrie from the week of the 8th to the 12th March (Episodes #10267 - 10272). How much drama can you wring out of characters collapsing? This week, Corrie tries to answer that question by putting Kirk, Peter and Kelly in varying degrees of peril and having them be discovered by friends and family. Yep, if you watch Corrie for its numerous scenes at Weatherfield General (What? You don't?), you were in for a treat with this week's episodes. Meanwhile, back on the Street itself, Asha takes the news that Nina's finishing with her pretty hard, Fiz's teasing threatens to push Ty into the arms of another woman, and Seb, Alya and Sarah go down in our estimations thanks to their views on pets. Next up in the podcast, we head on over to The Kabin for a couple of small news stories (see how many minutes we can get out of the news that Jack Duckworth has come to the Words & Design app!), then after a feedback section that includes one listener's tribute to Mike Baldwin,

  • Jack James Ryan Interview - Conversation Street Episode 461

    13/03/2021 Duración: 28min

Jack James Ryan's portrayal of nasty drug dealer Jacob Hay has had a lot of Corrie viewers' tongues wagging over the past few weeks, and he's certainly got plenty of people on social media fired up too over the way he's treated Simon, Carla and Leanne. In this interview, which is also available on video here, Michael and Jack talk about what it's been like bringing the character of Jacob to life, how he got into acting, and filming under COVID restrictions.

  • Conversation Street Episode 460

    06/03/2021 Duración: 02h33min

In our latest podcast, we discuss the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 1st and the 5th March (Episodes #10261 - 10266). After going through a bit of a rough patch this past month or so, Corrie definitely felt like it was on the up this week. Getting Paul away from Billy and in with the likes of Daniel and Ed is the best thing that's happened to him for a while, and the Alahans and were back in focus, meaning more great lines from Dev and Aadi and realistic relationship dramas for Asha and Nina; meanwhile, both of the Connors got a big thumbs up from us this week too - Jenny for not putting up with any of Daisy's meddling and Johnny for taking his meds. Speaking of which, can someone please prescribe some chill pills for Yasmeen and Leanne? Watching them struggle with their family issues is pretty stressful to watch at times!  Next up on the podcast is The Kabin, where there's a whole bunch of news to report on this week, including the sad (Johnny Briggs and Frank Mills' deaths), the h

  • Tanya Pooley Character Profile - Episode 460

    06/03/2021 Duración: 50min

Daisy's back to her meddling ways this week, but if she really wants to find out how to ruffle some feathers in the Rovers, she could definitely pick up a few tips from our bonus podcast this week, which is a character profile of bitchy barmaid Tanya Pooley. She may not have been in the show long back in the mid-90s, but thanks to her scheming ways, she's definitely gone down as one of Corrie's most memorable female villains.

  • Mike Baldwin Character Profile - Reupload from Episode 45

    28/02/2021 Duración: 26min

Having just heard the sad news of the death of Johnny Briggs this morning, we thought we'd reupload the character profile we recorded for Mike Baldwin back in 2013. Give it a listen if you want the opportunity to relive some of Mike's best moments on the Street!

  • Conversation Street Episode 459

    27/02/2021 Duración: 02h37min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 22nd and the 26th February (Episodes #10255 - 10260). The big talking point online this week seemed to be Ted's funeral, and just how inappropriate it may have been to have used it as a vehicle for some attempted humour, so we start off Street Talk by sharing our thoughts about that. And Tim freaking out about the possibility of the undead Ted bursting out of his casket isn't the only encounter the Street residents have with the recently deceased this week either, as Johnny's still having his hallucinations of Aidan, Leanne's employed the services of a psychic to contact Oliver, and Yasmeen has another encounter with Geoff when she visits the bank. It was a bit of an odd week this week, all things considered, but we give it our best shot dissecting it! Next up on the podcast, we take a look at Beverly Callard's latest comments about why she left the show in The Kabin before finishing off the episode with more of

  • Conversation Street Episode 458

    20/02/2021 Duración: 02h34min

This week on the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 15th and the 19th February (Episodes #10249 - 10254). It was a long, cold week for Kevin and Debbie after getting trapped in the Bistro fridge last Friday. We imagine that your experience of watching this might have depended quite heavily on how many of the blatant spoilers that were out there you saw as they kind of gave away the ending, but there were at least some lovely bonding moments between the Webster siblings that we could all enjoy. Also this week, feather-brained Leanne nearly gets hit by Mary's van, there's a medical emergency for Tyrone, and Ed's brother Ronnie makes quite an impression when he comes to visit, but what's Aggie's beef with him? In The Kabin, we talk a bit about the recent release of the latest of Maggie Sullivan's wartime Corrie novels, The Land Girls From Coronation Street, and we round off the podcast with more of your listener feedback. • Feature Discussion: 1990-1994 - Episode 458

    20/02/2021 Duración: 02h08min

We've reached another milestone in our journey through the Corrie box sets, so for our bonus podcast this week, we have a good old natter about the episodes we've seen from the first half of the 90s. As this is an era that's only recently aired on ITV3, we imagine it's going to be one that many listeners are quite familiar with, but how did the fact that he'd only just watched it a few years ago affect Michael's appreciation of the episodes, and can Gemma keep up with everything from a time which saw an increased number of weekly episodes as well as an explosion of new characters? From classic scenes like Ken and Raquel's French lesson and the infamous waterbed incident to some of the more underappreciated gems, we have a deep dive into the time period when Michael first started watching Corrie all those years ago and share what were our favourite parts - and what are best left in the past.

  • Conversation Street Episode 457

    13/02/2021 Duración: 03h11min

This week, Johnny starts to deteriorate further as his mind starts playing tricks on him in prison - and we were on the edge of our seats all week wondering if Aidan Connor was going to make a guest appearance! Meanwhile, Kevin and Debbie get themselves in a spot of bother when they're trapped in the Bistro fridge-cum-freezer-cum-Robert-and-Michelle's-love-nest - WILL THEY SURVIVE? (Yes.) Elsewhere on the Street, Ray's at large, Leanne sees a medium and Gail comes into a small fortune. In The Kabin, we react to this week's reports that Beverly Callard has declared a return to Corrie is now 100% off the cards (and honestly, we don't really believe it..), and we finish off the show with more of your lovely feedback. • Phyllis Pearce Character Profile - Episode 457

    13/02/2021 Duración: 58min

It's Valentine's weekend, and for this week's bonus podcast, we're profiling a real old romantic - randy grandma Phyllis Pearce! This purple haired Percy pursuer may not have had many storylines of her own, but that didn't stop her leaving a lasting impression on viewers in the 80s and early 90s. We take a look at her what mischief she got up to during her time on the cobbles, and even hear from one Street star who pops onto the podcast to fill us in on why Phyllis is his #1 Corrie character.

  • Conversation Street Episode 456

    06/02/2021 Duración: 03h34min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie broadcast in the UK between the 1st and the 5th February (Episodes #10237 - 10242). This week, the internet was buzzing with talk of Asha and Nina after the pair declared their affection for each other and embraced in the cafe. Combined with Dev's reaction to his daughter's refreshingly straightforward coming out and Aadi's hilarious progress review of Evelyn, this story proved yet again why the Alahans are definitely one of the best things about Corrie at the moment. Also this week, Simon finds himself caught up in the shady world of Weatherfield drug dealing, Billy blames Paul when Summer gets hit by a car, and Gail gets some bad news about her dad. In a relatively quiet news week, we have a quick chat about Corrie's nominations in the Radio Times Awards in the Kabin, before hearing some listeners' thoughts about topics including Nina and Asha, Michael's experience of racial profiling and the truth behind different coloured prison outfits in a bump

  • Andy Steele Interview - Conversation Street Episode 456

    06/02/2021 Duración: 36min

For this week's bonus podcast, we're joined for a chat by Andy Steele, a Coronation Street superfan, whose extensive knowledge of all things Corrie earned him the nickname 'The Corracle' during his time as a guide at Coronation Street: The Tour. He chats to us about what it was like working on our favourite street, as well as telling us about his vast collection of Corrie memorabilia and running a popular Corrie Facebook page dedicated to Classic Coronation Street.

  • Conversation Street Episode 455

    30/01/2021 Duración: 03h37min

On our latest podcast, we have a deep dive into the episodes of Coronation Street broadcast in the UK between the 25th and the 29th January (Episodes #10231 - 10236). This week, in some shocking scenes that really emphasise the horrors of alcoholism, Peter reaches his lowest point yet - can Ken and Carla stop him drinking himself into an early grave? Meanwhile, the outcome of Debbie's confrontation with Ray is revealed, Grace and Aggie lock horns once more, and Gail fannies about. In the Kabin we chat about the recent(-ish) news that Malcolm Hebden has retired, meaning no more Norris on the Street, and we finish off the podcast with some listener feedback. Street Talk - 00:15:20 The Kabin - 03:00:09 Feedback - 03:09:17

  • Geoff Metcalfe Character Profile - Episode 455

    30/01/2021 Duración: 01h28min

For this week's bonus podcast, we do a character profile of the Great Magnifico and Weatherfield Jiggle-o, Geoff Metcalfe. From his humble beginnings as that annoying bloke who Audrey meets in hospital, to his ultimate destiny as one of Corrie's most loathsome villains, we take a look back over his two and a half years on the cobbles, and wonder what could be in store for Yasmeen now she's finally free from his control.

  • Conversation Street Episode 454

    23/01/2021 Duración: 03h25min

On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 18th and the 22nd January (Episodes #10225 - 10230). This was one of those weeks where, rather than being their own separate thing, so many of the stories interconnected, with Ray Crosby slap bang in the centre. It was also a week where Weatherfield's local superhero, Abi, got the chance to don her cape once more and fight for justice - not just for those residents who've been conned into selling their homes, but also for Faye, who this week makes the brave move of confessing her attack on Adam to the police. For a second week in a row, we finish a Friday Corrie wondering exactly where Ray is and what fate has befallen him, and we had a great time discussing our ideas! Next up on the podcast, we head to the Kabin, where we react to the news that Corrie is temporarily halting filming for a few weeks. We finish things off with more of your lovely listener feedback. Street Talk - 00:21:18 The Kabin - 02:36:21 Feedb

  • The Bobbins Awards 2020 - Episode 454

    23/01/2021 Duración: 02h12min

For our bonus podcast this week, we take a light hearted look back on the very worst that Corrie had to offer over the last twelve months with the Bobbins Awards 2020. From character focused awards like the least convincing villain to the newcomer who made the worst first impression to story-based callouts like the silliest secret and the biggest anti-climax, the Bobbins Awards names and shames everything we felt fell short of the mark in Corrie's 60th year (though all in good fun, of course!).

  • Conversation Street Episode 453

    16/01/2021 Duración: 02h39min

In our latest podcast, we have a good old natter about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 11th and the 15th January (Episodes #10219 - 10223). This week sees Peter's decline continue as he makes a big decision regarding his own future - can anyone get through to him and convince him to keep on fighting? Meanwhile, Yasmeen recognises Geoff in Corey's treatment of Asha, Johnny struggles to to get used to life behind bars, and has Ray got Faye in the family way? With Harry Visinoni's toilet snake not quite enough to carry a news segment on its own, we give the Kabin a miss this week, and we finish off the podcast with more listener feedback. Street Talk - 00:09:03 Feedback - 02:18:54

  • Joe Parkinson Interview - Conversation Street Episode 453

    16/01/2021 Duración: 32min

For this week's bonus podcast, we chat with ITV's Joe Parkinson, who's not only been working for the past few years as a story editor at Corrie, but he's also responsible for the fabulous script in the Coronation Street: Words & Design app.  We speak to Joe about what it was like giving a voice to the legendary Bet Lynch after nearly 20 years off our screens, and unpick the storytelling process behind the scenes at Corrie.

  • Conversation Street Episode 452

    09/01/2021 Duración: 03h08min

On our latest podcast, we have a good old natter about the episodes broadcast in the UK between the 4th and the 8th January  (Episodes #10213 - 10218). This week, Ray's race to raze the place is nearing the finish line, so Abi decides it's time to "be more Deirdre" - and that doesn't mean nipping out into the ginnel for a quick fag while it all blows over. Will her truck top protest get her message across to her neighbours? (And is she even sure what that message should be?) Meanwhile, Arthur breaks Evelyn's heart - and ours! - by bogging off to Canada, Michael makes a big decision about his future with Grace, and Simon's in for a shock when he finds out Leanne's the only one on the street taking the new lockdown measures seriously. In the Kabin, we talk about this week's reports that a return story for Vicky Jefferies was set to go ahead last summer before falling victim to the pandemic, and we finish things off with some feedback from listeners, including a message that gets us thinking about how much certa

  • Our 2020 Reflections And Predictions for 2021 - Episode 452

    09/01/2021 Duración: 01h50min

This week's bonus podcast is split into two main sections. First, we take a look back on 2020 on Corrie as a whole, chatting about what we felt worked and what didn't, how the show dealt with the impact of coronavirus and whether or not the 10,000th episode and 60th anniversary week lived up to expectations. That's followed by our annual predictions segment, where we first look back on what we thought would happen on the show last year and basically find out how wrong we were, before checking the show's tea leaves to see what could be in store for the people of Weatherfield in the year to come.
