Episode 60 - Gamer (47:55)
21/01/2018 Duración: 47minWe discuss the 2009 Gerard Butler vehicle, GAMER, about live-action video-gaming of real live players, both in a simulated world where anything goes; and a Running Man/Gladiator-style fight for freedom from the dystopian prison system. Though not a great movie, Robert and I find plenty to discuss in this one. Worth seeing if you want to dig into some of the deeper questions out of a movie that tries really, really hard to be flash in the pan.Show notes and more at: https://www.actualanarchy.com/60Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.comRobert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/AnarchoCapitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy a

Episode 59 - WALL-E (51:49)
14/01/2018 Duración: 51minWe hang on to the last vestiges of my youth as I turn 40 and talk about a children's movie with my friend since childhood, and co-host, Robert. WALL-E is a charming story of a lonely robot who gains sentience and becomes lonely; but there's also some ridiculous economic fallacies and a few strong propagandistic messages being pushed. We hope you enjoy this one!Show notes and more at: http://www.actualanarchy.com/59Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.comRobert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/AnarchoCapitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Episode 58 - Get Out (55:54)
08/01/2018 Duración: 55minRobert and I start to implement a few optimizations to the format of the show as we discuss Jordan Peele's "Get Out" which is an excellent movie that uses perceptions related to race to mask the narrative of the story. We both really enjoyed this one and appreciate you bearing with us as we implement updates to the show.Show notes are more at: http://www.actualanarchy.com/58Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.comRobert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/AnarchoCapitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Episode 53 – War Machine (1:19:35)
03/12/2017 Duración: 01h19minKyle from Foreign Policy Focus joins us to talk about the Brad Pitt movie, War Machine which is a satire on the quagmire of US foreign policy in Afghanistan. The story follows a charismatic general who in a policy of "change guys" seems to think he and his team will be the solution to winning the hearts and minds of the population, and thus the war itself. We were very happy to have Kyle join us to bring a level of expertise that would otherwise be missing from an analysis of a film such as this.Show notes and more at http://www.actualanarchy.com/53You can find Kyle's show on the Libertarian Institute and the Libertarian Union websites:https://www.libertarianinstitute.orghttp://www.libertarianunion.comPresented by ActualAnarchy.comRobert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Episode 52 - The Founder (1:27:25)
26/11/2017 Duración: 01h27minHappy holidays everyone! And what better way to open the "commercialization" of the season than by talking about "The Founder" and how the McDonald's corporation became the global presence it is today. Robert and I go solo on this one and get fairly deep into the concepts of persistence, specialization and the division of labor. 22/11/2017 Duración: 01h29minWalter Block joins us for our Thanksgiving Special. Being the beginning of the holiday season, with good will toward man and all that, it felt appropriate to discuss charitable giving and the premises of the documentary, "Poverty Inc.". One recommendation, before watching the movie, please read the article by Block and Fryzek, then watch, then re-read the paper. Episode 50 - Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1:03:36)
19/11/2017 Duración: 01h03minWe open the holiday travel season with the 20th anniversary of a John Hughes mid-80's classic, "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" with our returning guest, the Professional Asshole. We get into a very dated movie that could not be made today as most of the problems that arise have since been solved by technology. Still, a kind of fun movie that may be worth a watch every few years.Check out our guests previous appearance where we talked about "3:10 to Yuma" at actualanarchy.com/37The show notes page for this episode can be found at actualanarchy.com/50Happy holidays everyone, and we wish you safe travels.Presented by Actual AnarchyRobert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Episode 49 - Inequality For All (1:20:27)
12/11/2017 Duración: 01h20minEsoteric Entity joins us to discuss the Robert Reich's "Inequality For All" - a leftist-propaganda puff-piece that caters to the uninformed and lowest common denominator for economic analysis.Described on Amazon, where it has over a thousand GLOWING reviews as:"A passionate argument on behalf of the middle class, Inequality for All features Robert Reich–professor, best-selling author, and Clinton cabinet member–as he demonstrates how the widening income gap has a devastating impact on the American economy. The film is an intimate portrait of a man whose lifelong goal remains protecting those who are unable to protect themselves. Through his singular perspective, Reich explains how the massive consolidation of wealth by a precious few threatens the viability of the American workforce and the foundation of democracy itself. In this Inconvenient Truth for the economy, Reich uses humor and a wide array of facts to explain how the issue of economic inequality affects each and every one of us."I'm sure you'll find

Episode 48 - The Shining (1:58:12)
05/11/2017 Duración: 01h58minHeeeeeeeere's Johnny! We bring back two former guests to tag-team on the Kubrick classic, the Shining. Doc Brown from our Episode 41 on It, and Patrick MacFarlane of the Liberty Weekly Podcast and our Episode 35 on Rogue One join us in the Gold Room to share a few drinks with Lloyd - on the house of course. This was to be our Halloween special, but schedules kept getting pushed due to illness, contracts and obligations to employers. The fact that there is so much ambiguity built into the movie, that it can be debated for decades after is a testament to how well made this film is. This should be a film that satisfies Robert’s desire in a story to have tension and struggle within the narrative. We have genuine unease and sense of dread for the character - despite the fact they we “know” going into it that Jack does go crazy and attempts to murder his family with an axe.Show notes and more at: www.actualanarchy.com/48Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.comRobert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anar

15/10/2017 Duración: 01h40minWe go lion-hunting in Tsavo with Country Sam of the Living Country in the City Podcast and talk the 1996 Val Kilmer flick, the Ghost and the Darkness. This is our third Kilmer movie we've done, and second in a row - so one might think we have a Val-fetish, and you would be correct. It won't be the last one we do with him in it.In 1896, a construction engineer from the British Army, J.H. Patterson (Kilmer) is sent to build a railway bridge across Uganda's Tsavo River for the British East African Railway. Soon after he arrives, workmen begin to disappear at night from their tents never to be seen alive again. The engineer soon discovers that a pair of man-eating lions are stalking around the bridge and campsites, killing the workmen for food. He tries a number of different methods to get rid of them, but the beasts always seem to know what Patterson is doing and avoid being shot. After 30 men have been killed Patterson's boss recruits a hunter, Charles Remington (Douglas) to hunt down and destroy the lions. The
