Episode 053 Rebecca (1940) For the first episode of our certified fresh month, where we pick films we haven't seen off the top 100 list from Rotten Tomatoes.com, we went with Rebecca (1940). Directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, this film, recently released from Criterion Collection, is one that Jonathan and Corey had both never seen. Corey purchased this for Jonathan as a Christmas present so it made sense to start the year off. To wrap up our month of holiday movies, Jonathan selected It's a Wonderful Life (1946) because Corey had never seen it. It's a classic holiday favorite of his directed by Frank Capra and starring James Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore, and Thomas Mitchell and there was no way he was going to end this year with Corey still having never watched it. Berk Reviews Top Five Movies episode 080 - Celebrations In honor of New Year's Eve and the many celebrations that will be held across the globe, Jonathan, Michael, and Corey looked at their favorites from films. There managed to be no overlap on the lists, but that may be a result of doing these together for almost two years. White Christmas is considered a Christmas classic. However, Corey had never seen the film before and it became Jonathan's mission to ensure that she gave it a go. It's a film that Jonathan watches annually going back to his youth.  Directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kay, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. Berk Reviews Movie Club episode 050 - Home for the Holidays Jonathan's pick for episode 050 was Home for the Holidays (1995). It's directed by Jodie Foster and stars Holly Hunter, Anne Bancroft, Charles Durning, Dylan McDermott, and Robert Downey, Jr. The film is set at Thanksgiving, but really could apply to being home during Christmas. Berk Reviews Movie Club Episode 047 features the Jim Jarmusch film Coffee and Cigarettes (2003). The film is a series of vignettes and has a huge list of celebrities making appearances including Bill Murray, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop, Steven Wright, Joie Lee, Cinqué Lee, and Steve Buscemi to name a few. Corey selected this film to Jonathan's delight. Jarmusch is a director that both want to see more of his films. Berk Reviews Movie Club episode 044 - Brick (2005) Jonathan picked Brick (2005) for a variety of reasons. The film is directed by Rian Johnson and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lukas Haas, Nora Zehetner, and Noah Fleiss. The film takes the noir genre and put it into high school. However, the premise worked for Jonathan, but Corey didn't love it.
