Episode 033 - The Fountain (2006) Darren Aronofsky is a director that Jonathan has been interested in but has seen few of his movies. His new film, Mother!, comes out on September 15th so it makes sense to try and catch up now. Corey picked The Fountain for this weeks episode. Berk Reviews Movie Club episode 032 - The Seventh Seal (1957) This episode of Berk Reviews Movie Club features the Ingmar Bergman classic The Seventh Seal. It stars Max Von Sydow, Gunnar Björnstrand, Bengt Ekerot, Nils Poppe, and Bibi Andersson. Jonathan suggested this film as both Bergman and the film were a part of his gap list. Movie Club Episode 031 - Point Break (1991) Due to the release of Detroit, the newest film by Kathryn Bigelow, it made sense to check out the film that jump started her career. Point Break (1991) stars Keanu Reeves, Gary Busey, Patrick Swayze, and Lori Petty. Jonathan and Corey had never seen it and this episode focuses on their take of the film. Berk Reviews Movie Club Episode 030 - Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Richard Dreyfuss, Francois Truffaut, Teri Garr, Melinda Dillon, Bob Balaban, and Cary Guffey. Corey picked this one as it is a film she'd never seen. Unfortunately, Corey's moving into a new place and her internet was in question so it's just Jonathan on this episode. Episode 029 features a review of the Roman Polanski film, Chinatown (1974). The film stars Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, and John Huston. Neither Jonathan nor Corey had ever seen this before so it was one to fill a major gap in their viewing history. With the release of the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan film, Dunkirk, we decided to look to war movies. Jonathan, Corey, and Michael picked their top five favorite war films, but used their own criteria to define what constituted a war film. The most notable star in the films is Melanie Lynskey who star's in the second of the shorts. The film features directors Roxanne Benjamin, Karyn Kusama, Annie Clark, and Jovanka Vuckovic. Next weeks episode Jonathan has been wanting to watch Roman Polanski's film Chinatown for sometime, so why not now. Episode 027 of Berk Reviews Movie Club features the Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro directed film Delicatessen from 1991. Corey really enjoyed this movie on her previous viewings, but Jonathan had never seen it. Considering this podcast had already watched Jeunet's Alien: Resurrection and Amelie it made sense to check this one out as well. Delicatessen stars Marie-Laure Dougnac, Dominique Pinon, and Pascal Benezech. In honor of the release of Spider-Man Homecoming, Episode 056 - Reboot suggestions features Jonathan, Mike, and Corey discussing what films or franchises need reboots. The lists that are hypothetical are often more challenging, but sometimes they fall into a groove. The trio used the following definition from Script Firm as a framing for their lists: "reboot indicates a complete overhaul of the source material; a reimagining, reconceptualization into a franchise. The new material may be vastly different from the original material that only the title remains. The film has a cast that both Corey and Jonathan are fans of and somehow neither had seen the movie before this episode. Movie Club Episode 024 - Lolita For Episode 024, Corey picked Lolita, directed by Stanley Kubrick starring James Mason, Shelley Winters, Sue Lyon, and Peter Sellers. Neither Jonathan nor Corey had seen it prior, but working through Kubrick’s filmography is something both want to do. This film is a bit uncomfortable to watch, but they powered through for the episode. Episode 025 Preview For next week’s episode, Jonathan selected Rudderless starring Billy Crudup and Anton Yelchin directed by William H. Macy. This is a film that one of Jonathan’s seniors recommended and since Anton Yelchin is in it, it made sense to include for Movie Club.
