#154 - November 2022 TV Premieres!
30/10/2022 Duración: 01h36minDown to Watch is so thankful for a November full of new shows to help us get to the turkey Thursday and black Friday that kick off the holiday season! Dan and Raul lined up a feast for pod listeners, including possible main dishes like The English, a Prime series about two unlikely frontier partners getting some grit in their bellies, which pairs great with the returning western from the same creator, Yellowstone. The side dishes are not to be missed either, including some Weird recipes mixed in (great for a Wednesday), a bounty of practical effects with the return of Willow, washed down with a Pepsi, (sans jet) and all in the company of a Tulsa King and The People You Hate at a Wedding. The table is set, come get your plate! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#153 - Let The Right One In (2022) / Interview With A Vampire (2022)
24/10/2022 Duración: 01h24minThis deep into spooky season, DtW has been mesmerized by two vampire shows that just got started! Dan and Raul round out October offerings with a couple of charming blood suckers and their misadventures among people who fear and love them, sometimes at the same time even. First up, a reimagining of Anne Rice's bestselling and 90s movie classic, Interview with the Vampire, now streaming on AMC+. This time race and gender relations of 1910s New Orleans serve as a backdrop for the story of a man falling to the allure of vampirism, with all its violence, power and pleasure. Next is another remake of a book-made-film into a series, called Let the Right One In, a beloved film being filled out to make a world with a larger story to tell. Demian Bichir plays a father with a little girl who hides from the sun, thirsts for blood and is desperate to settle into a livable existence despite the danger she poses to people, including her young neighbor friend. Will the horrors of existing as a creature of the night ruin the

#152 - Werewolf By Night / She-Hulk (Season wrap-up) / The Redeem Team
17/10/2022 Duración: 01h48minThe DtW crew includes Jonnie this week, which can only mean one thing: basketball talk! Before any of that though, everyone saw She Hulk and Werewolf by Night, a season of fourth wall breaking super hero legal comedy and a throwback, short creature feature in the vein of Universal Horror, respectively. These new entries to the MCU canon via Disney+ are hinting at the future of the franchise, so naturally the guys go sorting through the clues to see what all this comic book genre jumping means for the Marvel future. Finally, Dan and Jonnie saw The Redeem Team on Netflix and wanna share with Raul what they thought about this new doc centered around a wild time in US Olympic basketball. Could The Avengers pull off an upset win against the 2008 USA team in the gold medal game? Maybe these guys know! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#151 - Beyond Fest 2022
15/10/2022 Duración: 20minDan and Raul are joined by super-guest Hannah in Los Angeles as they celebrate Beyond Fest 2022 just before a movie screening. The gang had a full weekend of filmgoing and saw Gravity in Imax @ the Imax headquarters in Culver City, Trick 'r Treat @ the Hollywood Legion theater for a 15th anniversary celebratory screening and Q&A with the director, and lastly put a bow on the weekend with a double feature of Park Chan Wook's revenge trilogy classics Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance. This festival is one of the best in the country for genre films so if you are in or can be in LA during the end of September and early October on any given year you are in for a treat! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#150 - Andor (Season 1, Episodes 1-5)
09/10/2022 Duración: 01h03minThe Star Wars universe is full of space wizards and adorable baby green aliens, but ultimately returns to the stories of revolution against an oppressive Empire again and again. This week, Down to Watch checks in on another entry into Disney's continued expansion of the galaxy far, far away with the guerilla crew that sets off the whole Rebellion in Disney+'s, Andor. Cassian Andor, from the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is back to expand on his backstory that eventually culminates with his team delivering the Death Star plans that Darth Vader captures Princess Leia for in the first scene of the first movie of the franchise! Is this a deep dive into grittier stories from within the canon or another cash grab from the House of Mouse? Spoilers, it's the first one, but you should listen to us talk about it too! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#149 - October 2022 TV Premieres!
26/09/2022 Duración: 01h22minOctober is looking spooky for the DTW crew, 1) because there is a bunch of interesting stuff and 2) booooooo its pumpkin season y'all! We got a new Interview With a Vampire show as well as more fangs with Reginald the Vampire, a doc over on Netflix about the 2008 Olympic basketball squad, Let the Right One is a relaunch of a beloved horror property over on Showtime, Guillermo Del Toro is back with a produced anthology horror series on Netflix, and way more from AppleTV+ and many other streamers. So, don't hide in the shadows although this is a scary-good pod! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#148 - Pantheon / Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
19/09/2022 Duración: 01h04minThis week on Down to Watch, it's two animated streaming series with very different ideas about the future! Dan and Raul are talkin' toons this week, but it's not one for the kids, most likely. First, they're both in on Pantheon, a heady AMC+ sci-fi family drama about AI versions of loved ones that might spin off into apocalypse territory. After that, the reviews are mixed on Cyberpunk: Edgerunnners, an anime adaptation of the popular cyborg dystopian future video game. With deep lore to pull the plot from and studio Trigger's kinetic animation, what keeps this bloody crime story from being a hit on the pod? Listen to this pod for that very information! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#147 - She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (Episodes 1-4)
11/09/2022 Duración: 01h28minThis week on DtW, it's an MCU roundup! Dan and Raul and marvel mandatory guest Jonnie team up for a marvelous Disney plus discussion on the currently airing She-Hulk, with some talk about Ms. Marvel and Thor: Love and Thunder to begin. As usual, the trio looks towards the future of the film franchise, but then tangents take over and it really gets fun. Maybe we even break the fourth wall! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#146 - Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
05/09/2022 Duración: 01h07minIf this summer heat has you thinking of napping the lazy days away, DtW is here to make you think twice! Dan and Raul watched Invasion of the Body Snatchers, specifically the 1978 version, when filmmaking was loose and cool and just kinda did whatever, man. Donald Sutherland precedes his son in government work as a health inspector caught up in aliens replacing us with soulless pod people who can all rise and grind but will never know love. Will anyone survive long enough to grow up to be Jeff Goldblum? Just listen to this pod, it's safe, we swear! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#145 - September 2022 TV Premieres!
28/08/2022 Duración: 01h23minThe Down to Watch crew is here with the traditional Fall slate of shows designed to keep you entertained as the nights grow longer. Modern streamers don't keep to the network TV schedule, but September is still filled with shows they really hope you stick with all season long. Dan and Raul have a handful of these to talk about, including a few minutes about the Star Wars and LotR universes, the returns of Kobra Kai, Atlanta and Handmaid's Tale, and all new shows about digital dads reaching out into the real world, Amazon turning privacy violation into entertainment, gigolos, puppycats and leapers of the quantum variety! Lots of stuff, so come listen! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#144 - This Fool / A League of Their Own (2022)
14/08/2022 Duración: 54minDTW is back again with some new shows that hit the big streamers; This Fool over on Hulu, and Amazon finally released its tentpole show, A League of Their Own. The guys really enjoyed the Hulu offering as it incorporates many Los Angeles-isms that the locals (like Raul) will get off on, but also brings the heart and the feels for its characters trying to live and thrive in an urban environment, which any and all audiences will be on board for. Over at Amazon, the same cannot be said! Abbi Jacobson has worked on this for the streamer since 2017 and after many delays (and what can be presumed to be infinite rewrite and reimagining's) creatively and societall unfortunately the juice just doesn't seem to be worth the squeeze AKA enough meat on that bone to really take a big bite out of a massive property based on a beloved film...not every property can or should be made into TV!! Listen along as the guys give props and daps, but also some tough love for these "punk-ass bitch" shows! --- Send in a voice

#142 - The Sandman / The Resort / Paper Girls
09/08/2022 Duración: 01h23minDown to Watch is launching August with THREE new shows to check out as the summer roars on! Dan and Raul get straight into it with the new Amazon comic-adaptation, Paper Girls, which is giving the DtW boys some serious sci-fi vibes by way of coming of age camaraderie. Next the pod discussion slips into the dreamscape of Netflix's, The Sandman, another adaptation with loftier artistic intentions, but further to fall if they miss the mark. Finally the guys arrive at, The Resort, a seeming comedy that sometimes gets serious about a stale relationship that veers into the weird as the couple solves a mystery that unfolds for the audience in two time periods. Are these shows gonna get the coveted "full season discussion" or get dropped in place of whatever Disney throws at us? Listen and find out! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#142 - August 2022 TV Premieres!
31/07/2022 Duración: 01h29minMonthly hijinks ensue as the DtW crew get their grubby mitts on some brand new shows coming up in August! Dan and Raul have been snooping around and butting into the business of summer TV and it looks like business is booming: this coming month the streamers are hitting audiences with sports docs and dramas like Mike, Legacy: The True Story of the Lakers and Untold Season 2. The guys also cover small screen, big budget continuations to the franchises of Marvel, DC, Star Wars and Game of Thrones, as well as a ton of dramas including Steve Carrell dealing with The Patient and ladies dealing with baseball to comedies about two complete goofs just watching TV! Listen in to find out if the guys notice that they resemble that last remark!!! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#141 - Black Bird (Episodes 1-3) / Resident Evil (2022; Episodes 1-2)
26/07/2022 Duración: 01h07minSummertime is here and there's more ice cream trucks and danger out on those city streets! This week, DtW tries out a couple of cautionary tales about who you can trust out there with Netflix's Resident Evil and Black Bird from Apple TV+. Dan and Raul cover the obvious stranger danger in the form of the shambling undead and revivified doggos with yet another adaptation of the retro B-movie pioneer of survival horror gaming from the big red N. Afterwards, the guys touch on trickery and fraud with Black Bird, the tale of a prison inmate drug-dealer who needs to befriend a serial killer that had previously murdered and buried many female bodies in unknown locations...if he completes his task he won't need to serve his 10 year sentence and can get home to help care for his ailing father. With so much peril in our summer tv picks, listen in to this ep and stay safe! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#140 - The Bear (Season 1) / Thor: Love and Thunder / Ms. Marvel
18/07/2022 Duración: 01h36minSummer shows are matching the temps outside and Down to Watch has the hottest new hit with both critics and audiences on the menu this week; Dan and Raul just watched all of FX's The Bear, streaming on Hulu, and stalwart guest Jonnie is here to talk about how much everybody loves it! It's not a proper Jonnie pod unless we drop into the MCU, and this ep is no different as the guys talk about Ms. Marvel, Thor 4 and the future of the films for the first few mins. The main course, however, is a delectable serving of comedy, drama and cooking that everybody on the show absolutely savored (Dan had seconds!) Listen up and find out if this is gonna be the most satisfying dish of the summer or just a tasty aperitif! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#139 - The Last Starfighter (1984)
10/07/2022 Duración: 01h08minRaul and Dan set off on a quest a while back to knock out a slew of Essential-80's cinema and now are back at it with this 1984 classic! With space and sci-fi, aliens and flying crafts of all shapes and sizes, The Last Starfighter is right in line in most ways with what the 70's and 80's depictions of the genre would become and continue to be...creating films for kids about other kids slightly older then themselves so they could be put in the shoes of a hero they look up to. But, there is much to discuss and admire about several unique aspects of the film, and also the cringier/dated stuff too. The guys cover it all so pop in a quarter and nuzzle up to the joystick, because its not just a game, its also a test! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#138 - Obi Wan Kenobi / Ms. Marvel
04/07/2022 Duración: 01h32minThis week on Down to Watch, the Disney machine has taken over! Dan and Raul are happy to welcome Jonnie back to the show, and it's a good thing too because Disney+ is full up on his favorite franchises. The House of Mouse continues to solidify the strength of it's streaming platform with the two tentpole live action brands passing the baton in mid-summer. We slide out of the Star Wars universe with the end of the Obi Wan series that sheds light on his time babysitting Luke between trilogies just in time to start Ms Marvel, a YA coming-of-age MCU TV series about a young Muslim American becoming a super hero lady. A couple of shows hoping for individual success as well as furthering their story canon, but do they do or do not? Our trio of pod characters has their answers! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#137 - July 2022 TV Premieres!
26/06/2022 Duración: 01h22minSuns out, shows on! Down to Watch coins a new summer catch phrase to welcome the new July TV refreshments. Dan and Raul are keeping safe from the sun by checking out what the major streamers have cooking up on the grill: Prime is bringing a troupe of Paper girl's and Chris Pratt (no surprise there), Apple might save the day with some tasty looking Black Bird, and Netflix is serving up the end of Stranger Things S4 and some more Resident Evil (but there's always leftovers). There's plenty more to bite into on this sunny BBQ edition of DtW, so go dive in! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#136 - Dark Winds (Season 1, Episodes 1-2) / The Boys (Season 3, Episodes 1-3)
20/06/2022 Duración: 01h22minThis week on DtW we're tackling sinister 70s crime and superhero shenanigans with the first two ep's of Dark Winds, and the first three ep's of The Boys season 3! Dan and Raul are talking about the third go round with Butcher, Homelander and the rest as the current season of the Amazon Prime hit series sees the gore levels rising and plenty of allegories to the current state of the world. All of these messages are draped in sex and violence as the characters sink further into a world lousy with misbehaving "Supes". But before that, the guys are talking about Dark Winds, a new AMC+ series that seems to marry the "justice on the range" genre with spooky native happenings and occult-involvings. The series trailer drew comparisons to the David Lynch classic Twin Peaks, but does the final product closer to mid-tier cable shows? We know, and we wanna tell you, but you gotta listen! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

#135 - Planet of the Apes (1968)
14/06/2022 Duración: 01h08minDan and Raul go back in time, to a distant planet far, far away that is many years in the future to hunt down a Hollywood classic where apes are like man in every way! Oh wait, its earth, which are hosts did know (how could you not if you are in any way a lover of American pop culture), but hadn't seen the film in its entirety. Amazingly advanced ape costuming and shooting a ton on location were some high points, but the guys didn't gloss over the harder to swallow aspects of the stagnantly dull story. Get on your closest space ship and travel with the DTW crew to see if this classic film journey was worth it or in need of a rewrite! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message
