When Jesus is expiring on the cross he looks to his mother and makes sure she is taken care of and brought to the household of John. He is taking care of his family. In the midst of this, we also see the birth of a new family that Jesus is creating, which will eventually be the church! Do we view church as family? How do we care for those within our own households and how do we care for those within the household of our faith, within in the church? Join us in John 19:25-27 as Ben Hardman, pastor of Grace Church in Marietta Georgia, takes us through this passage and shows us the value of the church being a relational home for the lost, hurting and broken.  It's all about Jesus!

This week, on The Rest Of The Sermon, we talk about how Paul encourages us to put to death the things of our old selves and pursue the new life that Jesus has purchased for us. Join us in Colossians 3:5-11 It's all about Jesus!

As we continue our journey in Colossians we come to a passage that is filled with hard sayings. How can someone live a life apart from things that are so engrained in us culturally and individually? How doe we "put these things to death?" Colossians 3 begins with these words, "If then you have been raised with Christ." That is good news! Paul is saying 'since you've been raised with Christ, now live THIS way. Put these things to death and put on the new self that Christ purchased for you!' Join us in Colossians 3:5-11 as we see how we put to death our old life by putting on our new life in Christ! It's all about Jesus!

Colossians is broken into 3 sections.  In chapters 1 and 2 we see the gospel both PROCLAIMED, (the supremacy of Jesus,) and PROTECTED, (the sufficiency of Jesus.) As we come to chapter 3 and through the rest of the book, we will see the ways that we are encouraged to PRACTICE the gospel. How does the good news of Jesus Christ look applied to my daily life? What things should I pursue in my walk with Christ? Open your Bible to Colossians 3 and join us as we continue to see how it's all about Jesus!

This week on the Rest of the Sermon, we talk more in-depth about adding things to the gospel of Jesus Christ and how Paul warned the church in Colossae, (and us as well,) that adding things to the gospel actually takes away from it. Jesus + _________ = Everything. What goes in the blank for you? Is it money? Is it your ability to live a good life? As we continue our journey through the book of Colossians, we come to a portion of Paul's letter that is full of warnings against false teachers within the church. Many of these false teachings were content with teaching Jesus but were not content with Jesus being the ONLY thing necessary in the good news of the gospel. Many of us live our lives in this way. We fill in the blank as though adding to Christ is helpful in our faith, but Paul shows us that it when we add to Jesus we actually take away from him.  An equation we often revisit at West Side is this: Jesus + Nothing = Everything. This week on The Rest of the Sermon we discuss in depth the marks of ministry Paul outlines in Colossians 1:24 - 2:5. It's all about Jesus!

What are the marks of a Godly ministry? Many of us may think of 'ministry' as something that is reserved for those who are on staff at our local church. However, Paul tells the church in Ephesus, (Ephesians 4:11-12) tells us that the job of the (apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds and teachers,) is to equip YOU, the saints, for the work of the ministry! So what are the marks of living my life as a faithful minister of the good news of Jesus Christ? Join us in Colossians 1:24 - 2:5 as we continue our journey through the book of Colossians and continue to see how it's all about Jesus!

What is Jesus like? How does my view of Jesus impact my life?  In this week's text Paul offers the church in Collosae (and us in 2021) a MASSIVE, COLOSSAL, COSMIC view of Jesus Christ. Join us in Colossians 1:15-23, some of the most profound verses regarding the supremacy of Jesus Christ in all of the New Testament, as we learn how following Jesus faithfully requires that we see Jesus clearly! It's all about Jesus!

Join us in Colossians 1:9-14 as we talk about how our priorities can be helped by knowing God's will and living God's way. Charles Wesley once said after attending a church gathering and partaking in communion, "I received the sacrament today, but not Christ." In other words, 'I went to church, I sang, I participated in communion and listened to faithful preaching, but I do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.' Can you identify with this? Join us as we dive deeper into the book of Colossians  and see how if we truly love Jesus it will truly show in our lives.  It's all about Jesus!
