He grew up and attended college in New Mexico earning a degree in Communication and Advertising. He then moved to Colorado for 10 years before settling down in Florida where he works as a designer and illustrator. His decade long career landed various jobs among nonprofit, agencies, churches. He now works in-house at Medi-Share, a Christian HealthCare Ministry, where he combines his faith in God and talents daily to serve their members. The camaraderie between Shane and DP began at Creative South. Creative South is a design conference where individuals come together from different parts of the world to network, support each other and foster ongoing relationships. Their slogan, “Come as friends, leave as family,” is not just great words put together, but an indication of the creator’s desire for everyone to feel accepted, supported and loved.     On the latest episode of PBTA, Darold introduces us to Erica Pinto. Her creative gift comes in the form of calligraphy and she makes her living as a lettering artist. Erica attended a creative arts high school, but her journey took root in 2015. After the birth of her second son, she decided to get back into drawing with her husband. She drew inspiration from others within the art community on Instagram. Those early attempts at drawing letters and posting them online later resulted in requests for custom pieces. What Erica labels a hobby, has allowed her to make revenue from teaching classes, selling workbooks and creating custom lettering for several companies. Her journey started at the age of 9 when the school librarian, selected her to do morning announcements, an honor normally reserved for the sixth-grade students. She was hailed by students and teachers as being funny and entertaining. She didn’t like the news however and like most children, her age pondered why her family chose to watch them instead of morning cartoons. It would take the CNN document, Black In America, to make her take interest with the idea of telling stories. During her high school years, she was a member of the yearbook, newspaper and television committees which launched her into the world of broadcasting. She attended Jarvis Christian College, founded by her Great-grandfather, and has made a promise to establish a journalism degree program there. It was first instilled in her by her mother who was big on having great penmanship. She would creative worksheets for Natalie and her sisters to do after school. On a recent trip to Thailand, Natalie decided to test the waters and do lettering as a business venture. Natalie, who describes herself as persuasive and adventurous, would spend a lot of her days doodling and would always go above and beyond when working on art projects. Nick Longo is a designer, educator, and one of the co-hosts from The Deeply Graphic DesignCast, one of the first podcasts that highlighted graphic designers. As Nick recalls his childhood, he talks about being drawn to creative toys. He loved to draw, and because he never considered it his strongest skill, he devoted himself to work on ways to better express himself creatively. As a collegiate student, he was introduced to graphic design from one of his best friends. After graduating, he had the opportunity to work closely with an art director who taught him invaluable lessons about timelines and client relations.
