01/09/2017 Duración: 52minWe Want The D presents another history lesson on the turbulent tenure of Disney CEO Michael Eisner in this special mini-episode. This time, we learn about how Roy Disney leveraged his family name and legacy to oust the man he believed was destroying it.

WWTD 117 - Hot Lead and Cold Feet: Hijinks Ensue
24/08/2017 Duración: 56minStop us if you've heard this one before: after a bitter falling out, the parents of infant twins separate, but rather than splitting custody they each take one of the children and disappear from the others' lives. Later in life, the identical twins meet and an intense rivalry develops. Now we know what you're thinking, our hosts have already done both The Parent Trap movies, and you are correct. But this week we are tackling Disney's HOT LEAD AND COLD FEET, which has that exact same premise except instead of summer camp hijinks, we've got murderous wild west cowboy race hijinks. Yes, Disney has gone back to the well of one actor playing opposite siblings, and throwing in the father for good measure as Jim Dale nerds himself up as tambourine-whacking missionary Eli; sexies himself up as destructive, dirty outlaw Billy; and makes himself look like a walking corpse as the eccentric, suicide-faking Jasper. The result is...well, it's a movie alright. Throw in We Want The D mainstay Don Knotts and you've got a reci

WWTD 116 - Popeye: A Masterpiece and a Catastrophe
17/08/2017 Duración: 58minAs we've established (many times) before, the 1980s were a weird time for Disney, as the flailing and ailing company tried to outgrow their family-first approach with a more mature and gritty series of films. Most of the time, that didn't go over so well. At least once, however, they managed to harness a perfect storm of creatives and performers to make one of the most fascinating, ugly, dense and well-realized movies our hosts have any seen. Robert Altman's POPEYE takes the heightened look and reality of the comic strip and cartoon and puts it right up on the screen in live action. The result is discomforting and kind of gross, but also very appealing and charming? You can't help but admire his commitment to his vision, nor his brilliance in casting Robin Williams in his first leading film role or Shelley Duvall in the role she was born to play. Vicky, Nolan and Jill are at once completely confounded and incredibly impressed, though we hope you won't be with this episode of We Want The D.

WWTD 115 - Gus: Butt Dickus
10/08/2017 Duración: 01h07sWe'll be honest: this episode of We Want The D is a bit all over the place. But we're not going to apologize for it! How could you expect Vicky, Nolan and Jill to seriously discuss yet another live action Disney movie from the 1970s without breaking. The mere premise of this movie - "nowhere in the rulebook does it say a mule can't play football!" - is just the tip of the iceberg in how this film nearly drove our hosts insane. We can't pinpoint exactly when it happened, but it could have been as early as the insanely drawn-out opening credits sequence; the twenty minute mark when the gambling subplot we all knew was coming gets introduced; or maybe the extended sequence of Tom Bosley and and Tim Conway chasing a mule around a grocery store at the climax of the film. GUS doesn't offer anything we haven't seen before in terms of wacky hijinks, nondescript Girl character, and doofy premises, but there's something about it that pushed us over the edge. We acknowledge this, beloved D-sciples, but we won't apologiz

WWTD 114 - Atlantis: The Lost Empire: The Second Culling
03/08/2017 Duración: 01h02minIn this week's episode, Vicky, Nolan and Jill are unpacking why a movie that seems to have so much going for it can still end up failing. Disney's ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE has the pedigree of Trousdale and Wise; the voice talents of Michael J. Fox, James Garner and Cree Summer (to name only a few); and an art style inspired by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola - but for all of that it is as hollow, vacant and flat as the citizenry of Atlantis - no personality, no culture, no charm. Our hosts spend a lot of time trying to figure out what went wrong, and while the ethos of "less songs, more explosions" probably didn't do the team working on this movie any favours in making this film feel more like Michael Bay and less like Disney, its not as simple as that. So join us in our investigation as we dissect another animated outing on We Want The D.

WWTD 113 - High School Musical 2: A Glass of Milk
27/07/2017 Duración: 01h11minThe last time we saw Troy, Gabriella and the rest of the Wildcats they were leaving behind their high school (musical) days at the end of senior year, with little to no context of how they got there. This week on We Want The D, Vicky, Nolan and Jill are remedying that by checking out the middle installment of the Disney Channel Original phenomenon, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2. This time the Wildcats are off the court (kinda) and stage (not really) and "working" summer jobs, but don't worry they're still all in this together so they'll almost certainly survive this challenging rite of passage without turning on each other for petty and stupid reasons.

WWTD 112 - Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: Sisterhood of the Traveling Sword
20/07/2017 Duración: 01h31minIt seems fitting that the longest film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise would mean an extra-bloated episode of We Want The D. But in our defense, AT WORLD'S END has a lot to unpack in terms of sheer plot. Each character has their own scheme to follow, their own betrayal to make, and for chrissakes they spend the first hour just trying to bring Jack Sparrow back from the dead. This may be the most convoluted of any of the installments to Disney's seafaring franchise (certainly so far), but there's enough residual charm from the first two films that aside from being waaaaaaaaaaaaay too long there's worse things you could do while folding laundry. Join us for another adventure on the high seas as we continue our Summer of Pirates!

WWTD 111 - Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken: Wild Retinas Can Detach
13/07/2017 Duración: 01h07minThis week's episode of We Want The D is all about a movie about overcoming adversity and obstacles to achieve your dreams. It doesn't matter if you're an unwanted orphan during the great depression. It doesn't matter if you're a pint-sized teenager surrounded by movie star wannabes, gingers who can't grill hot dogs, or a gruff mentor with bad hair extensions. It doesn't because, as the title of this Disney movie constantly reminds us, WILD HEARTS CAN'T BE BROKEN. So even if you find yourself in circumstances like the ones mentioned here, know that no matter what, you too can achieve your dreams of diving horses into pools of muddy water on the Atlantic City boardwalk. Just...for the love of god make sure you close your eyes before you hit the water.

WWTD Minnie Mouse-isode 011 - The Bottom Ten
06/07/2017 Duración: 47minWelcome to the most self-indulgent episode of We Want The D to date! In this special mini-episode Vicky, Nolan and Jill look back at all the most ridiculous, boring and flat-out bad Disney movies we've watched over the past 100+ episodes and try to come up with a definitive list of the ten worst Disney movies we've watched to date. Each of our hosts brings their own opinions to the table and duke it out over which movies deserve the prestige of being top of the garbage pile. There's shock, there's anger and there's grim acceptance as they go about their task, but it's all worth it at the end when they are able to present to you the definitive We Want The D Bottom Ten! (So far...)

WWTD 110 - The Gnome-Mobile: Grandpa Joe Disease
29/06/2017 Duración: 01h06minThis week on We Want The D, it's a tale of two grandfathers. One, a lumber magnate who started from the bottom and now is in command of his own massive logging enterprise, but still has a soft spot for his young-yet-corpse-like grandchildren. The other, a gnome who is despondent to the point of illness because his adult grandson will never get laid after all the other gnomes in their forest vanish when the lumberjacks come. When their paths cross, it's no surprise that hijinks ensue, though not in any way Vicky, Nolan or Jill could have expected. We're talking carny kidnappings, asylum jailbreaks, and an extended greased pig chase only with gnomes. Disney's THE GNOME-MOBILE takes some odd turns, but in spite of it all, in managed to capture a little piece of our hosts' hearts with how endearing all that nonsense is. Not unlike the titular song for this film composed by the Sherman Brothers - it certainly isn't their best work, but it's gonna get stuck in your head for weeks anyway.

WWTD 109 - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest: Showboating
22/06/2017 Duración: 01h11minThe Summer of Pirates continues on We Want The D! The second installment of Disney's seafaring franchise has pretty much the whole behind and in front of the camera team returning with bigger action, bigger boats and almost certainly bigger paychecks. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST may have crammed way more action sequences and plot into what amounts to essentially half a story, but it also added some new and mostly welcome faces to the franchise, from Tom Hollander's littlest East India Company Man to Bill Nighy's delightful turn as a tentacled Davy Jones. So while some of the cracks in the franchise have already started to show, Vicky, Nolan and Jill are willing to overlook them in favour of the fun this entry managed to inject into this now-bloated series of films. Whether this trend will continue will have to wait until next month as the Summer of Pirates continues!

WWTD 108 - The Reluctant Dragon: Dope 40s Ladies
15/06/2017 Duración: 51minWe've established in past episodes that the early years of Disney weren't exactly smooth sailing for the company, what with that pesky Second World War and those damn communist animators striking for better wages or whatever. This week on We Want The D, we're taking on one of Disney's efforts to stay afloat without breaking the bank with THE RELUCTANT DRAGON. The title animated segment is just a small portion of this movie, which isn't really so much of an actual film as it is a behind-the-scenes tour of Disney studio. Which, to the delight of Vicky, Nolan and Jill is actually pretty fascinating much of the time, as we see foley artists at work and get to see a multi-plane camera in action. But on the other hand we also have to deal with the casual racist and sexist attitudes of the early 1940s and popular essayist Robert Benchley's largely perverted antics. There's a lot of conflicted feelings this week, but we hope you aren't conflicted in your enjoyment of this episode.

WWTD 107 - Beauty and the Beast (2017): Amen Menken
08/06/2017 Duración: 01h21minTo celebrate the release of Disney's live action version of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST on blu-ray, DVD and Clamshell VHS; We Want The D is releasing our episode discussing the film. Recorded just a few days after Vicky, Nolan and Jill saw the movie in theatres, it's a blast from the recent past that will answer all your burning questions about how our hosts felt about this interpretation of these beloved characters, songs and story. Did Emma Watson breathe fresh life into the role or did she come short? Were the musical numbers a visual spectacle or weak homage? Did changes to the story address all the plot holes of the original, or were they just distracting? You'll only find out by listening, so pop the headphones on and get ready to revisit the world of Beauty and the Beast all over again as We Want The D proves Disney aren't the only ones who can churn out remakes of old content.

WWTD 106 - The Pacifier: These Children Have Not Grieved Properly
01/06/2017 Duración: 01h12minThis week, it's another dead and deadbeat parents, fun concept turned into margarine on bleached cardboard, wrong-headed casting decisions extravaganza. And, for Vicky, Nolan and Jill, one of the most egregious examples at that. Disney did almost everything wrong in spotlight some classic Nazi comedy, doubling down with teacher-on-student bullying, and putting Lauren Graham in the worst outfit to ever grace the silver screen. It's THE PACIFIER's turn to get the We Want The D treatment, and it makes itself an easy target.

WWTD 105 - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl: Has Boobs
25/05/2017 Duración: 01h11minWelcome, D-sciples, to the Summer of Pirates! We Want The D is celebrating the decades old tradition of blockbuster season by dedicating the next five months to one of Disney's most successful franchises, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. On the eve of the release of a fifth installment that nobody really asked for or wanted, Vicky, Nolan and Jill go back to where it all began - when a big budget movie based on a theme park ride, captained by an eccentric lead actor in a one-of-a-kind performance sailed into the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere. 2003 was a simpler time for movie franchises, and our hosts look back fondly on this stand-alone film unhindered by the baggage of multiple sequels and Johnny Depp's scandal-laden life and bizarre career choices. There'll be plenty of time for all that in the months ahead, but until then, we hope you'll enjoy the start of this epic series as we navigate the treacherous waters of the Summer of Pirates.

WWTD 104 - Prom: Cannibal Holocaust
18/05/2017 Duración: 01h15minIt's prom season, y'all. The time of year when teenagers get all gussied up, tearfully reminisce about all those good high school times, and get underage drunk. Of course in Disney's PROM only two of those three things are going to happen. Vicky, Nolan and Jill may have grown somewhat cynical about this "greatest night of our lives" event, but our hosts still had a blast talking about this movie. How could they not, when the cast of high school students have age ranges from 16 to 28 and the presence of Aimee Teegarden gives them an excuse to talk about Friday Night Lights at length (again). They even do a little retrospective thinking on their own proms, and we know how much you D-sciples have been clamouring to know more about that. You don't even need to ask, We Want The D delivers.

WWTD 103 - The Black Hole: Video Input Network Command Electronic Neuro-Technician
11/05/2017 Duración: 01h14minA long time ago in a galaxy far far away... DISNEY'S THE BLACK HOLE Episode I: We Just Made the One Episode A small tuna can-shaped ship drifts through the blackness of space, on a long search for intelligent life or a hospitable planet, or something like that. Crewed by an unlikely group of largely boring versions of better actors, as well as Ernest Borgnine and Norman Bates from Psycho, and one floating trash can that speaks in Snapple Cap quotes. Little do they know they will soon stumble across the long-lost USS Cygnus, and find that its crew has mysteriously vanished, and certainly have not been turning into those human-looking robots by the unhinged Dr. Hans Reinhardt and his murderously aggressive henchman robot (slash-possible captor) Maximillian. A story that is largely predictable is about to transpire, followed by a roughly 30 minute climax that needs to be seen to believed, though not necessarily understood. The Black Hole: The final frontier. This is the voyage of a small crew into possibly He

WWTD 102 - 101 Dalmatians (1996): de Vil's Candy for Children
04/05/2017 Duración: 01h05minWe've talked our fair share about Disney's recent trend of remaking their animated classics into live action spectacles here on We Want The D. But somehow, we forgot that this trend it older than the past few years. That in fact it dates back to the mid 90s, when for some reason, the people running the House of Mouse decided it would be a good idea to throw an absurd amount of money at making a live action version of their classic 101 DALMATIANS. The result is some pretty impressive production design, elaborate action set pieces staged in downtown London, and of course an absurd amount of merchandising. What nobody working on the movie seemed to realize is taking movie that derived its charm from its talking animal characters and reorienting the story so it centered on the boring human counterparts was an absurdly bad idea. The result is something that looks a lot like 101 Dalmatians, but a soulless, bland version of the first half of the movie and a second half that is basically Home Alone.

WWTD Minnie Mouse-isode 010 - The Endless Meetings of Woolie Reitherman
27/04/2017 Duración: 59minYou may be wondering how a "mini" episode of We Want The D can be the length of a regular episode. Well D Lovers, the truth is these aren't mini episodes, they're Minnie Mouse-isodes, which are very different. In this installment, Vicky, Nolan and Jill dive back in to the history of the Disney company and the personalities who have helped shape it over the year. This week's subject is OG Nine Old Men member and plane metaphor enthusiast Wolfgang Reitherman.

WWTD 101 - The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement: Fish Lips
20/04/2017 Duración: 01h08minLet it never be said that Vicky, Nolan and Jill can't finish something they start. This week on We Want The D, our hosts are wrapping up the first complete franchise in their journey through the Disney canon. Sure, it may only comprise of a mere two films, but the two movies combined are almost four hours of some of the dumbest storytelling and nonsensical film-making our hosts have been exposed to. Beloved as the book series may be (especially by Vicky), THE PRINCESS DIARIES 2: ROYAL ENGAGEMENT is not the sequel fans were likely hoping for, or even expecting. Does anyone really care what happened to young Mia Thermopolis after the events of the first movie, now that she's a privileged princess of a small principality? Was anyone clamouring for a sequel that essentially robs the characters of any agency or personality? Is anyone actually entertained by a bachelorette party of vaudeville routines, mattress surfing, or Julie Andrews giving a performance that gets dangerously close to a rapping granny? If the fi
