On episode 59 of Film Focus, with the summer movie season well and truly over I decided to do a recap/review of the summer films of 2018. But I am not alone, to help me with this task is returning guest Eddie from Jaccendo and Sidekick Reviews. From Avengers: Infinity War to Incredibles 2 to Crazy Rich Asians and The Predator, we cover a bunch of notable releases that came out from April through to September. On episode 57 of Film Focus, I discuss the final film from Marvel Studios in 2018 in the form of Ant-Man and the Wasp. The first Ant-Man film from 2015 was one of the best surprises of the year and I was curious/excited to see where the people at Marvel would take the character after the events of his first film and Captain America: Civil War. On episode 48 of Film Focus, I finally, FINALLY get around to reviewing Black Panther; the latest superhero film from Marvel Studios. So I've been waiting for this film essentially since the end of Captain America Civil War, Black Panther left a massive impression on me, and Marvel Studios hired Ryan Coogler to direct I knew this film would be special. What followed after that was the assembling of one of the finest casts the MCU have ever seen, really good trailers, a whirlwind of hype from fans online and a soundtrack produced by Kendrick Lamar! On episode 44 of Film Focus, returning guest Drew and I talk about the last major release of 2017; Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Now, this latest entry in the Star Wars film series has been one of the most anticipated films in recent memory because of the all the speculation about where the story and characters would go, what Rian Johnson would bring to the film as the director and how Leia's role would be handled after the passing of Carrie Fisher last year among other things. Now, this film has had such a troubled journey to its release with changes to the script and tone after the reception of both Batman V Superman and Wonder Woman, the unfortunate tragedy that made Zack Synder step away from the film and the conflicting reports about how much was changed during Joss Whedon's time as the director tasked with finishing the film.
