  • No Diggity (feat. Dr. Dre & Queen Pen)- Blackstreet Decomposition

    16/01/2019 Duración: 01h29min

Teddy Riley is a legend in the R&B world. Credited with birthing New Jack Swing, as well as co-writing and producing a jillion hit songs. Little did we know how ahead of its time "No Diggity," was when it came out. It was respectful of women and very sex-positive. Don't worry, Katie gives us a point-by-point analysis of why. Blackstreet? More like WOKESTREET!! Puns, m'er f'ers, puns! Why is Queen Pen a part of this song? Who are the original Rump Shakers? Also, my apologies for the less-than-good audio quality this week. I tried my best, guys. I tried my best. @Darincredible www.darincredible.com https://non-productive.com/snlnerds/ https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-virgin-chronicles/id1021803956?mt=2

  • Sex And Candy- Marcy Playground Decomposition

    09/01/2019 Duración: 01h06min

This is a record setting song. Let that sink in for a minute. Marcy Playground wrote a sleepy, nonsense song in an hour. That song shot up to #1 and stayed there for 15 weeks. Lazy songwriting, odd pronunciations, no bridge... and this was the best song on the album. Probably any subsequent albums as well. Good news, The Woz & Co. are still out there touring. We learn about Sean's movie soundtrack enthusiasm as well as his candy enthusiasm. We discuss post-modernism, and get into the similarities between this wacky video and a Matisse. Panty raids were all the rage in the late 90's, by the way https://ttfnetwork.com/ @ttfnetwork #ThrowtheFlag #Disco #Lem-OH-nade #RollIt

  • Walk Like An Egyptian- The Bangles Decomposition

    02/01/2019 Duración: 01h09min

Holy Banana! This is a strange song. Somehow it's about people trying to keep their balance on a ferry. Written by Lionel Whatshispuss. It also features MOST of the Bangles singing and playing their instruments. The massive success of this song may have been the beginning of the end of the Bangles, but it sure lives on in our hearts. Also, if anyone wants to put together a Ladies of the 80's festival, please float us some free tix. Ok, thanks.

  • Re-Release: The Christmas Shoes Remastered Decomposition

    26/12/2018 Duración: 01h04min

today we are re-releasing last year's Christmas episode where we invite Teresa to Decompose the hit song by NewSong, "The Christmas Shoes."

  • STOCKING STUFFER! All I Really Want For Christmas- Lil Jon feat. Kool-Aid Man Decomposition

    24/12/2018 Duración: 41min

As a Christmas gift this year we have decided to give you a little stocking-stuffer of an episode. When we heard the 2018 song "All I Really Want For Christmas," by Lil Jon feat. Kool-Aid Man (what?) we knew we had to record an emergency episode of Decomposition. We reached out to several friends and were able to get their opinions. Special thanks to Teresa, Josh, Sean, Sandy, Darin, and Natty Bumpercar for contributing to what is surely a very special Christmas. Feliz Navidad! • Wonderful Christmastime- Paul McCartney Decomposition

    19/12/2018 Duración: 51min

A giggle-fit from the get-go. The moon/ mood is right. Right? This song pays Sir Paul approximately $400k a year in royalties. A million (approx,) the sounds of many instruments being thrown down stairs, cat's jumping on a synthesizer, the odd "Ding-Dong," "AAAAHHHHH, Don't look down," and some of the laziest songwriting we have ever heard. And it isn't even McCartney's WORST Christmas song! It is possibly Brads least favorite song of all time, though. Also, we assume we know British Christmas Traditions, and how they may be inspired by "Inferno." All that and the delights of Katie taking the worlds smallest bites of cookie. this episode is funny, contentious, and much more enjoyable to listen to than the song we are discussing. #HappyChristmas #TeresaEpisode #RollIt

  • Fairytale of New York- The Pogues (feat. Kirsty MacColl) Decomposition

    12/12/2018 Duración: 51min

The Pogues never had a hit in the U.S. However, this song has become an annual favorite on radio stations all over the country and has landed on the British charts 14 times. I guess if Elvis Costello dares you to write a Christmas song then you do it. We get into their possible homophobia, drug use, binge drinking, and the sad story behind this very non-traditional Christmas song/ Irish folk tune. Is it somehow inspired by An American Tale? Then we spend some time discussing the tragic story of Kirsty MacColl's life and the very WTF circumstances behind it. All that and Katie's perspective on the "Baby It's Cold Outside," nonsense.

  • Christmas Every Day- David Archuleta Decomposition

    05/12/2018 Duración: 58min

David Archuleta is still a celebrity. He has just released his second Christmas album and this is the lead single, though it feels like he is trying to get himself into an Old Navy campaign. the song is a pile of Christmas drivel. His cadence is strange. The song is nonsense and comes off as some sort of holiday-themed Groundhog Day. Katie hates on some kid. Brad gives his list of things that he hates in Christmas music. Plus a ton of definitely, 100% accurate, hippo impressions. All that and a run-down of the songs on Katie's phone. Commence giggling.

  • Get Here (If You Can)- Oleta Adams Decomposition

    28/11/2018 Duración: 47min

This is the longest song ever. It's only four and a half minutes long, and yet it goes on forever. We discuss deserts, Wind-surfing, mental teleportation, and terrible cabaret performances featuring death and 'Oh Holy Night." Does this song need a bass solo? Does it need a saxophone solo ON TOP of that? Katie is offended by this song both as an Arab woman and an English Literature teacher. How did this song reach the charts twice and yet we have never heard of it. Snarfle your snuffles and get ready for a goofball episode.

  • Send Me On My Way- Rusted Root Decomposition

    21/11/2018 Duración: 01h02min

Katie saw Rusted Root live, they were fine. Brad owned two of their albums, they were also fine. There's no doubt that this song inspires sheer joy and has, thankfully, stood the test of time, despite not really charting that high at the time of its initial release. But '95 was a tough year. Tell you what; if you get fired from your job then go out strong just like Rick did. Peter Gabriel's "So," Paul Simon's "Graceland," Talking Head's "This Must Be the Place." All distilled by some white hippies out of Pittsburgh. Ombaseeyou, ombatellyou New Game: Glabicking, or Glibnicking. Give it a try, have some fun. This guy has a VERY expressive mouth. Happy Birthday to you, Joe Shipley.

  • Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen Decomposition

    14/11/2018 Duración: 01h14min

Katie and Tim argue Thats about it Queen was great and Tim is wrong

  • Private Eyes- Hall and Oates Decomposition

    07/11/2018 Duración: 01h14min

We have always just kind of assumed that "Private Eyes," was a creepy, stalker-ish song. In a rare moment for Decomposition, you get to bear witness to a real-time reaction to learning the truth about this hit song that isn't "Your Kiss Is On My List," despite how it sounds. We also learn a lot about how important hand claps are to a song. We also learn how difficult it is to clap in time to the hand claps in this song. Darin is a huge Hall and Oates fan and it was a delight to have him over to get seriously schooled by Katie... as is her profession. Brad adds little to the conversation. • Addams Groove- (MC) Hammer Decomposition

    31/10/2018 Duración: 01h22min

Happy Halloween! Brad is hopped up on vitamins, caffeine, and beer for an episode on what may be our most ridiculous song to date. MC Hammer was a global sensation who was not above a cash-grab movie tie-in. He's very clearly not familiar with the source material. Brad gets real for a moment when discussing his connection to The Addams Family. Is Hammer telling a story? Who is the pope of Oak-town? We learn all about his posse, Bones, Swoop, Goofy and Randy. Katie makes the obvious comparison between Stanley Kirk Burrell and Wordsworth. Did Hammer have to move back in with his parents? In Oakland or Central Park? Also, pepper for your chicken? Please Hammer, don't hurt 'em.

  • Champagne Supernova- Oasis Decomposition

    24/10/2018 Duración: 01h48s

Oasis dominated the charts in the mid-90's. And yet, none of us, to this day, know what on earth they were singing about. Namely, Noel Gallagher doesn't know what he was writing about. He could only think of one word that rhymes with "hall," which is interesting when you are a professional songwriter. He started a lot of fights. Blur, Phil Collins, Jay-Z, and especially his brother, Liam. Certainly not the Beatles, though, who they openly took a lot of music from, and then claimed to be bigger than. What is a Brackett the butler on Camberwick Green, or Chipley, or trumpton? Who has the thicker Manchester accent? Why is this song seven and a half minutes long?

  • Are You Gonna Go My Way- Lenny Kravitz Decomposition

    10/10/2018 Duración: 01h13min

Lenny Kravitz is Rock N Roll Jesus. Or at least he pretends to be in this song. Fortunately Katie is able to real-time check and see if that holds true. All that and a Lenny History lesson! Did he out-Zeppelin John Paul Jones? Did he out-Iambic-Tatrameter Shakespeare? What the hell is an anapest? Rub-a-dub...seriously? RUB-A-DUB?! Killer song, though

  • Unskinny Bop- Poison Decomposition

    27/09/2018 Duración: 01h18min

In the late 80's Poison was the hottest rock band around. In the early 90's they put out this hit. Guess what its about... C.C. bangin' a porno queen? C.C. masturbating? Or C.C. just using nonsense fillables? Lets re-live the good old days (and listen to Katie's cringe-worthy contempt,) as Matt and Brad justify their love of all things hair metal, specifically the works of Bret Michaels, C.C. DeVille, Ricky...Lipstick(?) and Bob Dall... whoever those guys are. For further reading please find the article Grunts, Groans, Lust and Thrust Also, Matt and Katie have an awkward argument that begins with the debate: Pop-ups or Pops-up?

  • The Humpty Dance- Digital Underground Decomposition

    04/09/2018 Duración: 01h35min

This is an amazing song. It seems goofy, but upon closer inspection you really get the sense of genius that goes into it. It promotes body-positivity, not being afraid to do your own thing, world peace, and humptiness forever. There is so much happening in this episode. Every time we get to see Natty its a good time filled with laughs. Therefore, we couldn't really edit out a whole lot. So strap in and enjoy the silliness and we break down the greatest hip-hop song of all time "The Humpty Dance." http://nattybumpercar.com The Bumperpodcast: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/bumperpodcast/id330037859 The Dumbfellas Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/dumbfellas/id1374036329?mt=2

  • California Gurls- Katy Perry (ft. Snoop Dogg) Decomposition

    22/08/2018 Duración: 01h05min

This is the greatest summer song of all time. Is it bad? No, it isn't. It is exactly what its supposed to be, upbeat, fun, a little bit sexy, and ridiculous. It was also a monster hit. Foul gummy bears, artful butt pics, a candy pimp, The Slap Chop, and "What, What? In the Butt." It doesn't make a ton of sense, but neither does Emily. Its like having a living soundboard in the studio with us. Strap in, everybody, it gets goofy in this one.

  • I Was Jack (You Were Diane)- Jake Owen Decomposition

    08/08/2018 Duración: 01h13min

You all remember Donna Vee, comedian and country music fan. Well, we have found a country song that she does not care for. It's not your grandmothers meatloaf, as she puts it. It's a nostalgia double-down... a song reminiscing about a song about nostalgia, get it? Also, what is this trite, generic, Bo Burnham-esque nonsense? Blue jean halo? Does John Mellencamp even care about this song? Why is there a 10 minute long mini-movie? Also, what sort of deal-with-the-devil punishment is happening to Jake Owen now that he has to play this song for the remainder of his career. It sucks... a chili dog outside the Tastee Freeze Check out #GirlsGoneGreen at: https://girlsgonegreen.podbean.com/ Or find them on Facebook, Apple Podcasts or anywhere else you listen to podcasts https://www.donnaveecomedy.com/

  • Soak Up The Sun- Sheryl Crow Decomposition

    25/07/2018 Duración: 50min

We start by recounting our vacation at Montreal Jazz Fest and discuss some of the excellent bands that we saw: Elise Legrow, The Suffers, Teke Teke, and how Brad is so white that he can go to Canada and get a sunburn. Sheryl Crow has given us some great songs. "All I Wanna Do," "Every Day Is A Winding Road," "Leaving Las Vegas." And then there's this song. How is this about Owen Wilson? Neoliberal consumerism? What is the first line to "Everyday Is A Winding Road?" Does it involve a limousine repairman? Also, we debut a brand-new segment (maybe) called "What the Actual Fact?" and believe us, it's pretty fact up. She could have retired at 17, but instead tries to drive a wedge into Katie and Brad's marriage. You're better than this, Sheryl Crow #tryharder
