We have spent so much of our time discussing terrible songs. Some we love despite this, some are bad songs written by good artists, others are just straight up horrendous. But today is a special day. Today is the day that we discuss and artist we love and the decades worth of wonderful songs that he gave to us. Paul Simon is (one of our) favorite(s), and we are here to tell everybody why he is Americas (PUNS!!) greatest songwriter. Pauly Fuemana, the sometimes-ascot-wearing New Zealander/ Polynesian gang member, had a far more bizarre life than this song would have you believe. In fact, the story in the song is quite dull. They drive, they chat with a friendly cop, then maybe hit up a circus. And yet, it was all over the airwaves back in 1995/96/97. Enjoy the giggles in this one. This week we discuss a young, cocaine-dealing entrepreneur and the myriad bitch-related problems that he has. WARNING This episode has more explicit language than usual. However, as it was relevant to the song choice and our discussion, we left it in. I could only really tell you about three problems that the J Hova actually has. However, I can also confidently tell you what one of his problems is not. Katie was wrong. And not just a little wrong, but, like, A LOT wrong. She confidently suggested this song to our close friend thinking she could really rip into it. But, as she learned, this is not only a not-bad song, but in fact an excellent song. Multiple meanings for "bitch." Inventive new slang (Jake, kit-kat.) Compelling narrative. Its basically flawless... unless you count the gross mispronunciation of the word "zapatos." That's just downright terrible... .

Let's put it out there; The Jonas Brothers were designed to appeal to children, we get it. But their music is still pretty garbagey. Who is this Peter anyway? Is he a pervert, or a murderer, or a pervert/murderer? We don't get answers to that, but we do get possible answers to how their great, great, great granddaughter is doing "fine," approximately 600 years or so after she would have existed. Roll it! Steve Harwell seems like an angry man. We kinda hope he starts a twitter feud with us. Denis had no idea what was coming walking into with this one, so we had the unique pleasure of introducing him to one of the funniest things the internet has given to us, an unreleased song by Smash Mouth. It is a track of isolated vocals from a song the even the band knew was too terrible to release on an album. It really brings out the majesty in Harwell's vocals and lyrical prowess. Katie and Chris are musical theater nerds. Katie also loves the movie "Legally Blonde." As it turns out, these two things do not work together. Chris is the only one of us who has actually seen the musical, but says that , for the most part, the rest of the music is not really any better. The song is annoying, and that is really it's biggest problem. Katie takes some real exception to the negative sorority girl stereotype. Brad pulls a bit of a bait-and-switch on Katie this week. She loves this song and declares it "a perfect song from a perfect movie." She is, however, on a lot of drugs. Rhymes? Who needs 'em? Grace Slick sings the word "Crazy," as if she were legitimately crazy...which she might just be. Also, how hard-rock is this song? Is the guitar solo so hard-rock that, despite the rest of the song not being that, it was the best hard-rock solo of 1987? Who knows? This episode is hopefully more entertaining to listen to than it was to research. Katie loves both of these songs, despite not knowing that they were, in fact, two different songs. 95 South wrote it first, but Tag Team had the bigger hit. They are ode's to strip clubs, booties, and partying. The videos have plenty of booty equity, celebrity cameos, and maybe, just maybe, one of our former presidents hanging out at a house party. Katie HATES Sara Bareilles. It is an irrational hatred that she struggles to explain. She feels sorry about that...and she feels GREAT when she can find even the most basic of justification. Meanwhile, friend and Baltimorian, Matt, doesn't even know the song...but that's fine because he also recognizes the shortcomings of this song. It's as if Bareillis determined that she knows whats best for her friend struggling to come out of the closet. But only so that she feels good about herself. We also spend an inordinate amount of time telling/ not telling when this episode was recorded...maybe this past weekend, maybe a month ago. Who knows, really? There are a lot of tangeants and ridiculousness, which is par for the course when hanging out with Matt. You can tell the drinks were being had before, during and after the recording. We never learn Matt's middle name, and we certainly don't understand why Katie hates BAREILLEEESSSS so much. Aside from that there's all the Katy Perry stuff that happens. #NoFun

Matt and Brad grew up in a household where Air Supply's Greatest Hits was constantly playing. Over the years they have kept that very cassette tape in working order. Matt stole it from their mother. Brad subsequently stole that tape from Matt. Katie has then had to endure the tape...which is now in a bag in a closet in a guest bedroom in NJ. Is there a story here? Is Team Russel(l), in actuality, Jeff Daniels and Sickly Bilbo Baggins? Another wonderfully over-he-top soft-rock anthem from Jim Steinman...before he started working with The Game. Is it the perfect song? Probably. Even Katie can get into it.
