  • Kiss From A Rose- Seal Decomposition

    11/07/2018 Duración: 50min

This song is probably about something. Or, to say the least, it feels like it should be about something. Seal has never expressly stated why he wrote the song, but he does say that the feeling of the song is more important than the actual words. What is the grey? Is this about a cocaine problem? Is it about crossing over to the afterlife? Is it about interracial butt stuff? According to Seal, yes to all three. We also spend some serious time discussing a theory posited by listener Sandy about the Killers song "Human." Sorry about the audio quality, but you'll be ok

  • Me and Decomposition Down By The Schoolyard; An Homage To The Work of Paul Simon

    27/06/2018 Duración: 01h16min

We have spent so much of our time discussing terrible songs. Some we love despite this, some are bad songs written by good artists, others are just straight up horrendous. But today is a special day. Today is the day that we discuss and artist we love and the decades worth of wonderful songs that he gave to us. Paul Simon is (one of our) favorite(s), and we are here to tell everybody why he is Americas (PUNS!!) greatest songwriter. We start with a bit about what on Earth was going on between Paul, Julio, and Rosie Rosenstein-Pajama in that schoolyard? We have theories... and they're dirty Then we move on to the countless (almost) lines of musical poetry that stand out to us as Paul Simon's best. Teresa struggles even without actually being under any pressure. We misquote a lot of lyrics, song and album titles. Teresa fawns... a lot #Decomposition #PaulSimon Randy Rainbow "WTF You Guys" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygYA7Au9th0

  • How Bizarre- OMC Decomposition

    11/06/2018 Duración: 47min

Pauly Fuemana, the sometimes-ascot-wearing New Zealander/ Polynesian gang member, had a far more bizarre life than this song would have you believe. In fact, the story in the song is quite dull. They drive, they chat with a friendly cop, then maybe hit up a circus. And yet, it was all over the airwaves back in 1995/96/97. Enjoy the giggles in this one. Was it Pauly Fuemana's first day speaking English? Was Pele some type of religious figure? Why couldn't the circus afford more than one monkey? Should you buy the rights? • Hungry Like the Wolf- Duran Duran Decomposition

    04/06/2018 Duración: 01h01min

We have all loved this song. We have all sung along to this song. We have all misunderstood the lyrics (aside from doo do doo do do do do...) Turns out, its quite misogynistic and VERY rapey. We will never mis-hear it the same way again. As you may have guessed, this episode is very giggly. It smells like it sounds.

  • Party Hard- Andrew W.K. Decomposition

    28/05/2018 Duración: 01h04min

Party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party, party! Honestly, it's good advise

  • Ironic- Alanis Morissette Decomposition

    02/04/2018 Duración: 01h33min

"Ironic," was EVERYWHERE in 1996. You couldn't escape it. And it turned into Alanis Morissette's biggest hit to date. This song is challenging. Unless you're Alanis Morissette, she kinda just doesn't care. Nothing mentioned in this song is actually ironic, they just suck. But this week we take the time to slightly tweak the lyrics so that they become ironic. We also rank all of the happenings on a scale of 1- 10 based on how much they suck. Patrick tells us about the biggest fight that he has ever gotten into. Plus he spent many of his formative years lying about Nirvana and "Weird" Al. Join us on an exploration of the most 90's song and video as we discuss the unironic story of Mr. Play-It -Safe, and why this song may actually be ironic afterall. https://www.patreon.com/OriginalCastPod/posts http://originalcast.libsyn.com/

  • Joyride- Roxette Decomposition

    26/03/2018 Duración: 01h10min

There's a lot happening in this song, and yet not so much at all. Plenty of Google Translate, nonsense lyrics, sugar-pigs...who knows. But the song, nontheless, is outstanding. This is a fun, wacky episode where we teach Cody a little about sex-ed and he provides some evidence that hair metal makes a young person gay, who knew? We also get into K-Fed a bit, and have a little Rod Stewart sing along. Find Cody's book, A Gay Teens Guide to Defeating a Siren at: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_6?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=a+gay+teens+guide+to+defeating+a+siren&sprefix=A+Gay+%2Caps%2C145&crid=1VHVCJ2R870FX And listen to their podcast at: http://www.bspodphx.com/episodes/ #Joyride #SugarPig #Gurglun

  • 99 Problems- Jay-Z Decomposition

    19/03/2018 Duración: 01h26min

This week we discuss a young, cocaine-dealing entrepreneur and the myriad bitch-related problems that he has. WARNING This episode has more explicit language than usual. However, as it was relevant to the song choice and our discussion, we left it in. I could only really tell you about three problems that the J Hova actually has. However, I can also confidently tell you what one of his problems is not. Katie was wrong. And not just a little wrong, but, like, A LOT wrong. She confidently suggested this song to our close friend thinking she could really rip into it. But, as she learned, this is not only a not-bad song, but in fact an excellent song. Multiple meanings for "bitch." Inventive new slang (Jake, kit-kat.) Compelling narrative. Its basically flawless... unless you count the gross mispronunciation of the word "zapatos." That's just downright terrible... .

  • Jonas Bros.- Year 3000 Decomposition

    12/03/2018 Duración: 53min

Let's put it out there; The Jonas Brothers were designed to appeal to children, we get it. But their music is still pretty garbagey. Who is this Peter anyway? Is he a pervert, or a murderer, or a pervert/murderer? We don't get answers to that, but we do get possible answers to how their great, great, great granddaughter is doing "fine," approximately 600 years or so after she would have existed. Also, Joe Shipley has 2 wishes come true this week; a shout-out...again, and the discussion of a song by Busted, technically. @mmillertheatre http://www.carolines.com/comedian/divorce-diaries/

  • Tal Bachman- She's So High Decomposition

    05/03/2018 Duración: 51min

History, myth, religion, ancient aliens, and the perfect child-murder scenario. This episode really has it all! Starting our second year, we talk about the song that inspired us to do this podcast in the first place. It isn't the worst song, by any means, but it definitely has plenty of flaws. Also, Ian Starglow... whatever the hell that is. Twitter: @decomp_pod https://www.facebook.com/decompositionpod https://www.patreon.com/decompositionpodcast

  • A Real-Time Reaction to an Unreleased Smash Mouth Song

    26/02/2018 Duración: 01h02min

Roll it! Steve Harwell seems like an angry man. We kinda hope he starts a twitter feud with us. Denis had no idea what was coming walking into with this one, so we had the unique pleasure of introducing him to one of the funniest things the internet has given to us, an unreleased song by Smash Mouth. It is a track of isolated vocals from a song the even the band knew was too terrible to release on an album. It really brings out the majesty in Harwell's vocals and lyrical prowess. And provides near-endless laughs. Tell your friends, they're going to love it. • Weezer; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly part 3: the Ugly

    19/02/2018 Duración: 01h09min

Teresa has no fun...none, whatsoever. She is angry, she resents this, she hates every single minute, and it is awkwardly apparent. She also, as the episode progresses, realizes that she doesn't know ANY of these songs. She didn't buy ANY of these albums. She has a serious Weezer blind-spot...but still gets upset when we don't like the songs. I think she broke up with us...I'm still not sure Thanks to everybody who has helped make this past year so successful for us here at Decomposition. All of the friends we've made in the podcast community, everyone we have interacted with on social media. Everyone who has shared this with their friends and/or enemies. As long as there are terrible songs out there, we will have no shortage of episodes. Here's to another year! #NoFunTeresaRage #Decomposition #HappyAnniversary #TryHarder #GetOutOfMyFace Remember, they're not guilty pleasures if you don't feel guilty.

  • Weezer; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly part 2: The Bad

    15/02/2018 Duración: 46min

It is our one-year anniversary. So we invited Decomposition favorites, Teresa and Josh, to help us kill our heroes, Weezer. We each have chosen a particular Weezer song and decompose what it is that makes Weezer a mediocre band Josh pulls a fast one on us and Teresa has to admit that there are Weezer songs that she doesn't love...it's the saddest Teresa has ever been in her life.

  • Weezer; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly part 1: The Good

    12/02/2018 Duración: 01h10min

It is our one-year anniversary. So we invited Decomposition favorites, Teresa and Josh, to help us kill our heroes, Weezer. We each have chosen a particular Weezer song and decompose what it is that makes Weezer a great band Be sure to stick around for the sing-along at the end...it's the happiest Teresa has ever been in her life.

  • EPISODE 50: Patrick Flynn, The Billy Joel Apologist

    05/02/2018 Duración: 55min

50th Episode Special: We were lucky enough to have an awesome, recorded conversation with Patrick Flynn (The Original Cast) about Billy Joel. Brad is not a fan. Patrick is a huge fan. Katie has no strong opinions...other than that she loves Oliver and Company. We go through Joel's catalog of hit songs over the years, from Captain Jack to The River of Dreams, and plenty in between. We learn that Brad loves some Billy Joel songs even though he doesn't like Billy Joel. Patrick is ashamed of some of his Billy Joel love. Katie forgets things about Billy Joel and doesn't realize some Billy Joel songs are by Billy Joel. But we spend some time discussing other artists; Alexa Ray Joel, Neil Young,Frankie Valli, Semisonic, Nine Days...and, obviously the cost of driving through Delaware. • Omigod You Guys- Legally Blonde The Musical Decomposition

    29/01/2018 Duración: 01h18min

Katie and Chris are musical theater nerds. Katie also loves the movie "Legally Blonde." As it turns out, these two things do not work together. Chris is the only one of us who has actually seen the musical, but says that , for the most part, the rest of the music is not really any better. The song is annoying, and that is really it's biggest problem. Katie takes some real exception to the negative sorority girl stereotype. And why is it that they hat maids? 7 Tony nominations, Zero wins...that says something. Katie also demonstrates the "bend and snap," which doesn't really work in an audio format, but it is a terrible, dumb thing that is worth YouTubing. • Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now- Starship Decomposition

    22/01/2018 Duración: 43min

Brad pulls a bit of a bait-and-switch on Katie this week. She loves this song and declares it "a perfect song from a perfect movie." She is, however, on a lot of drugs. Rhymes? Who needs 'em? Grace Slick sings the word "Crazy," as if she were legitimately crazy...which she might just be. Also, how hard-rock is this song? Is the guitar solo so hard-rock that, despite the rest of the song not being that, it was the best hard-rock solo of 1987? Who knows? Thanks to Useless Debates & Pop Culture and Can We Cult for their promos this week. Be sure to check them out. Also, leave us a review on Apple Podcasts and spread the word, as we are quickly approaching 10,000 downloads

  • Whoomp Vs. Whoot (There It Is)- Tag Team/ 95 South Decomposition

    15/01/2018 Duración: 57min

This episode is hopefully more entertaining to listen to than it was to research. Katie loves both of these songs, despite not knowing that they were, in fact, two different songs. 95 South wrote it first, but Tag Team had the bigger hit. They are ode's to strip clubs, booties, and partying. The videos have plenty of booty equity, celebrity cameos, and maybe, just maybe, one of our former presidents hanging out at a house party. Katie uses a helpful Venn diagram and Brad can't keep anything straight. Lookee here, lookee here, lookee here...shaka laka shaka laka shaka laka... • Brave- Sara Bareilles Decomposition

    08/01/2018 Duración: 01h03min

Katie HATES Sara Bareilles. It is an irrational hatred that she struggles to explain. She feels sorry about that...and she feels GREAT when she can find even the most basic of justification. Meanwhile, friend and Baltimorian, Matt, doesn't even know the song...but that's fine because he also recognizes the shortcomings of this song. It's as if Bareillis determined that she knows whats best for her friend struggling to come out of the closet. But only so that she feels good about herself. We also spend an inordinate amount of time telling/ not telling when this episode was recorded...maybe this past weekend, maybe a month ago. Who knows, really? There are a lot of tangeants and ridiculousness, which is par for the course when hanging out with Matt. You can tell the drinks were being had before, during and after the recording. We never learn Matt's middle name, and we certainly don't understand why Katie hates BAREILLEEESSSS so much. Aside from that there's all the Katy Perry stuff that happens. #NoFun

  • Making Love Out Of Nothing At All- Air Supply

    01/01/2018 Duración: 54min

Matt and Brad grew up in a household where Air Supply's Greatest Hits was constantly playing. Over the years they have kept that very cassette tape in working order. Matt stole it from their mother. Brad subsequently stole that tape from Matt. Katie has then had to endure the tape...which is now in a bag in a closet in a guest bedroom in NJ. Is there a story here? Is Team Russel(l), in actuality, Jeff Daniels and Sickly Bilbo Baggins? Another wonderfully over-he-top soft-rock anthem from Jim Steinman...before he started working with The Game. Is it the perfect song? Probably. Even Katie can get into it.
