BFGC 42 - Blade Franchise and Lows
08/02/2018 Duración: 01h02minThe Blade trilogy gets the Franchise and Lows treatment. Who doesn’t love Wesley Snipes as the badass half-vampire. That’s a rhetorical question, by the way. Everyone here at #TeamBFGC are massive fans of the 1998 action horror classic, and the original made our list as one of the best action movies of the 1990s (listen to our Action Movie special from Jan 2017 for more). What about the sequels though? We can’t agree on which one fits better, and this has caused some heated debate in the studio. Foz believes the second entry has more merit, but Ben thinks Trinity is a much worthier sequel. Luckily for us, irregular guest, and Blade superfan, Dave is on hand to mediate and add some much needed perspective. But is Blade 2 only popular because of Guillermo Del Toro’s fanboys? Does Trinity essentially act as Ryan Reynolds’ audition for Deadpool? And just how did Norman Reedus, AKA Darryl from The Walking Dead, manage to get work after his role here? Join us as we cruise around in a black Dodge Charger to find

BFGC 41 - Doctor Mordrid
25/01/2018 Duración: 51minShould the Doctor Strange film have been more like this early 90s rip-off? Low budget studio Full Moon entertainment held the movie rights to Marvel’s Doctor Strange for a short period. When they lost the rights, they thought “well we’ve done all this pre-production work, might as well do something with it”. The result is Doctor Mordrid, a low budget fantasy action movie starring horror and B-movie legend Jeffrey Coombs in the title role. The Blu-Ray edition that one of us bought was definitely not released as cash grab. Team BFGC are on hand to investigate a curious . This episode was recorded shortly after consuming a large amount of Kentucky branded fried chicken. Joining us in the studio is semi-irregular co-host Dave. Before we tackle the movie, Dave is subjected to a rigorous Q&A and gives us his own Desert Island Flicks. But can Coombs play a heroic role and not come across as creepy? Can stop motion dinosaurs ever be rubbish? And does this film actually exist or is it a meat sweat induced fever d

BFGC 40 - Scream Franchise and Lows
21/12/2017 Duración: 58minScream is 21 years old and we look back at the highs and lows of the series in the first Franchise and Lows. Writer Kevin Williamson combined Dawson’s Creek with Crystal Lake, and roped in veteran horror director Wes Craven to create a ground breaking, crowd pleasing chiller. It revolutionised the horror movie and you could argue that the genre exists in a pre- and post-Scream era. It went on to spawn 3 sequels, not to mention an almost totally unrelated TV series. As we’re examining all 4 movies, there’s plenty to (Edvard) munch over. But which one of them is the absolute worst? Is Wes Craven so good at directing he could do another instalment posthumously? And which character is worse, Gail Weathers or Monica Geller? Join us in small town America as we see if these scary movies are a Ghostface Killah, or more of a restless spirit. How do you rank them? Franchise and Lows - Introduction
14/12/2017 Duración: 23minMovie franchises are more important to studios than ever. This week the Star Wars saga reaches it’s 9th instalment. Thus, Bad Films in Good Company embark on Franchise and Lows, a look at various movie series’ and finding out if a sequel is equal or if the follow up is more of a follow through. This is an introductory episode, explaining the what, the why and the who. The first F&L will take a look at the ground breaking Scream franchise celebrating its 20th anniversary. What’s your favourite franchise? Get in touch and let us know: Email: bfgccast@gmail.com Twitter: @bfgcpodcast Facebook: www.facebook.com/groups/BFGCPodcast/ iTunes: apple.co/1R4SNZJ

BFGC 39 - Critters
30/11/2017 Duración: 46minSmall, ravenous creatures are terrorising small town America. It can only be one film… that’s right, Critters. A sci-fi/horror action comedy that is most definitely not a knock-off of Gremlins. This is a movie that generates fond, misty memories for us in the studio. Its appearance on Amazon Prime means it’s time for us to re-evaluate this 80s classic. Our recall is not always totally accurate, though, as we have discovered in previous episodes. Fingers crossed that this is still a hit. But do Americans have a different idea on what constitutes a firework? Is 80s poodle perm rock music truly universal? And is this film a critical satire on the immigrant experience? Join us in the remains of the white house as we see if this alien invasion is an unbelievably fun object, or more like an interstellar plot that comes after eight. Are we just being nostalgic for the sake of it? Get in touch and let us know: Email: bfgccast@gmail.com Twitter: @bfgcpodcast Facebook: www.facebook.com/groups/BFGCPodcast/ iTunes: app

BFCG 38 - Red Riding Hood
16/11/2017 Duración: 50minTwilight fever was running rampant and every studio was running a high temperature. Red Riding Hood was Warner Bros attempt at catching some of those twinkling YA dollars. WB were so eager to repeat the success, they even hired the same director. As no-one had ever tried to make a rites of passage/teen-based werewolf film before, there’s no way it could fail. This movie was not a huge success either critically or commercially, making it ideal territory for Team BFGC. We were both very tired recording this one, and we’re a bit rambley. But there is a previously unheard trailer for your entertainment. But can it really be a werewolf film without a transformation sequence? Why is there a lack of chemistry with the romantic leads? And what was Gary Oldman’s thinking behind his performance? Join us as we follow the breadcrumb trail into the forest and see if this supernatural romance is destined for greatness or if it’s just lupine lunacy. Are we wrong? BFGC 37 - Freddy v Jason
31/10/2017 Duración: 57minIt’s a match made in hell, as two of the biggest horror icons from the 80s square up for the fight of the century. In the blue corner, wearing the O’Neill shorts, we have the strong, silent slaughterer Jason ‘momma’s boy’ Vorhees. And in the red corner, with the flaming shorts it’s the chuckling child-killer Freddy ‘fingers’ Krueger. Whoever wins… well you know the rest. Team BFGC are providing the concise post-match analysis for 2003s action packed horror mash-up. But have American filmmakers ever actually been to a rave? Is Kelly Rowland destined for an acting career? And why wasn’t Katharine Isabelle given the lead? Join us on vacation at Crystal Lake as we see if this horrific Odd Couple are a match for Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau, or if they provide more tragedy than Hamlet. BFGC 36 - Fool's Gold
09/07/2017 Duración: 01h04minBefore the McConaughssance, came the collapse and few films did more than to progress the fall than this poorly received turkey. Cashing in on the chemistry between Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, Fool’s Gold is a half rom com, half action adventure that aims to recapture the spirit of classics like Romancing The Stone. Unfortunately, it didn’t convince audiences particularly well, and infuriated critics. Just perfect for us to investigate if this is a low point in Matt’s illustrious career. But did Ray Winstone accept this role for a Caribbean holiday? Should Malcolm Jamal-Warner aka Theo Huxtable be in more films? And should the accent coach be struck off for their contribution to this film? From the other side of the world Sam recommends a rom com that has a considerably better reputation in this weeks Our Man in Japan segment. Join us as we sit on the beach drinking Red Stripe to see if this romantic adventure is a hidden treasure or a bag of rubbish left on the beach. Disagree with our verdict? G

BFGC 35 - Olympus Down
02/07/2017 Duración: 01h27minWhen terrorists take over the White House, only one film can save the day, and in our 4th July special we find out which is better Olympus Has Fallen, or White House Down. We start by examining which is better on paper. Whilst we deliberate over their entertainment value, Sam, Our Man in Japan takes the reins and joins US Correspondent Vic for a stateside look at what films they think best represent America. Then it’s back for the definitive conclusion to discover whether Gerard Butler or Charming Tatum is the right man to save the president, and provide the most fun. But would Butler be more intimidating wearing just pants and a cape? Can Tatum Step Up 2: The Plate and bust the right moves on the bad guys? And just why would anyone vote Two-Face for president over Ray Charles? 0.00:00 - 00.17:28 - Better in Theory 0.17.28 - 0.47.39 - Stateside Selections 0.47.39 - End - Better in Practice FYI: Diggstown is also known as Midnight Sting Disagree with our verdict? BFGC 34 - Gods of Egypt
25/06/2017 Duración: 57minIt’s been a while since we’ve had a decent swords, sandals and sorcery movie. Many have tried but, whilst some have come close, all have failed. Gods of Egypt gives Egyptian born Australian director Alex Proyas, purveyor of arch-Goth classics The Crow and Dark City, a go to try and brighten things up. Unfortunately, the reviews were so bad the director took to Facebook in a fit of rage. It has been known for critics to be wrong, and we are just the people to assess whether that is right. But just what has Bryan Brown been up to since Cocktail? Does Chadwick Boseman’s performance bode well for Black Panther? And can anyone teach us how to correctly pronounce Nikolaj Coster-Waldau? Join us as we raft down the Nile to see if this movie is a golden idol, or touristy trinket. If you’ve seen it, let us know what you think. BFGC 33.5 - Guardians of the Wonder Driver
18/06/2017 Duración: 44minWe finally managed to get it working. Sam, Our Man in Japan, linked up with me via Skype, Ben, for an impromptu discussion, mainly about Guardians Vol.2 and trailers that don’t necessarily do their job. It was supposed to be a quick little chat to fill the gap before our Gods of Egypt episode, but it turned into something a bit longer than anticipated. This is the #TeamBFGC way. Please note that sound levels are a bit wonky, because I got the levels wrong when I was recording. There’s some post-production wizadry at play, that might get me kicked out of Hogwarts… but you can be the judge of that. Do you want to hear more like this? BFGC 33 - The Wicker Man 2006
11/06/2017 Duración: 59minIf you were asked to make a list of films that shouldn’t be remade, 70s horror classic The Wicker Man is likely to figure quite highly. In 2006, however, Neil LaBute decided to do just that. Transplanting the story to America, he casts Nicolas Cage as a conflicted copper investing the disappearance of a girl who may, or may not, be his daughter (SPOILERS: it is), from a remote, matriarchal society. What could possibly go wrong? Critical and commercial catastrophe, that’s what. Time to strap in and see whether LaBute and Cage have slaughtered a sacred cow. But what kind of performance will Nic Cage employ? How fast is Christopher Lee spinning in his grave? And will this film put you off eating honey? Join us as we dance around the maypole to see if this remake makes you dance in your pants, or want to sit in a Habitat chair and self-immolate. BFGC 32 - Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow
02/06/2017 Duración: 38minIt has been a long time coming but we can finally bring you our episode on a green-screen pioneer. This retro adventure features zeppelins, giant robots, ray guns and Giovanni Ribisi. What’s not to like? Well… it flopped at the box office, and the director hasn’t made another film since. That certainly seems like a bad omen, but friend of the podcast Dave loves it, so our minds will be kept open. But does Jude lay the law as the titular pilot? Can legendary class act Michael Gambon save the day? And did Foz actually manage to finish the movie? Join us in a sepia hued airship as we find out if the world of tomorrow is an exciting land of wonder, or a post-apocalyptic wasteland of tedium. WARNING: The intro section features some dodgy audio due to a loose microphone connection If you’ve seen it, let us know what you think. BFGC 31 - Action Jackson
25/05/2017 Duración: 59minAfter years of propping up the biggest action stars of the 80s, Carl Weathers made his bid for solo stardom in Action Jackson. It was a modest success at the time, but not well received by critics. There’s no better time to visit the city of Detroit, where the film is set, for an international edition looking at this lost classic. But was the leading lady cast for any other reason than sheer Vanity? How many action character actors can you spot? And just how does Carl like his ribs? Join me, Sam Your Man in Japan, and special guest co-host Vic, VC from the D, as we find out if Carl can weather the storm to become a leading man or if he’s better left backing the line as a supporting player If you’ve seen it, let us know what you think. 18/05/2017 Duración: 29minWelcome to Bad News in Good Company, recorded 13 May 2017. We took time before Eurovision on Saturday to record a cheeky little newscast just for you. Amongst the topics of conversation this time are: - Game of Throwback - Marshall Hellboy - Suspiriaicious Minds - Blade Running Out? - Riverdale Verdict And much more. BFGC 30 - The Avengers (not that one, the 1998 one)
04/05/2017 Duración: 56minThis was, possibly, the most misguided move ever taken by Warner Bros. A full-blooded American interpretation of a quintessentially British show. The Avengers (not that one) boasts the excellent skills of a whole host of talented actors, and Uma Thurman. Critics hated it… audiences stayed away… I surely can’t be that bad. [spoilers] We had to record a little extra, to make up time and add some much needed positivity, giving you an insight into BFGC decision making along the way. But is it possible for Jim Broadbent to give a bad performance? Were Shaun Ryder’s appearances on TFI Friday the reason he was given no dialogue? And has Sean Connery made a worse film than Zardoz? Join us as we joyride in an E-Type Jag and see if this remake is a sturdy Steed, or limp like orange Peel If you’ve seen it, let us know what you think. BFGC 29 - Underworld
27/04/2017 Duración: 59minAfter 28 episodes of agreement, comes the first film we don’t see eye to eye on. The 2003 action horror flick Underworld, where vampires and werewolves get into rucks. Foz loves the film and has invested in the whole series. But Ben hates the film so much, he couldn’t finish watching it back in the day. It’s a game of 2 halves this week as we each state our pre-existing opinions, then reconvene to see if our minds have been changed. But do fans say it’s good just to excuse the fact that they're perving over Kate Beckinsale in PVC? Are Bill Nighy’s acting chops infallible? And just what did happen to Scott Speedman’s career? Join us we surround ourselves with garlic and silver to see whether Foz is delusional or Ben is a joyless idiot. If you’ve seen it, let us know what you think. BFGC 28 - Mindhunters
20/04/2017 Duración: 59minWhat happens when you give a clever Agatha Christie style murder mystery to that Finnish purveyor of dumb overblown action Renny Harlin? Mindhunters is the result and the fact it sat on the shelf for 2 years should tell you everything you need to know. Or does it? It’s time to look at this forgotten film for signs of life. But did this film spearhead Val Kilmer’s career revival? Does this movie count towards Jonny Lee Miller’s audition for Elementary? And does Renny Harlin have a talisman in LL Cool J ? Join us at the Cluedo board as we try and unravel the mystery to find out if this is a smart whodunit or stupid whocares. If you’ve seen it, let us know what you think.
