This week the Scoobies are celebrating Halloween at U.C. Sunnydale with a haunted house frat party that gets way too real. Giles is in the holiday spirit, Anya finds the perfect costume, and we're reminded to always translate the photo captions in Buffy episode 404, "Fear Itself"

This week we follow the Gem of Amara, Oz, and Spike to LA as everyone's favorite brooding vamp talks a walk in the sunshine for the first time in 200+ years.  For more Hot Chicks with[out] Superpowers check out: Emily is revisiting Beyonce (as we should all be doing every day) on the one year anniversary of Lemonade, with a special shout-out to her new scholarship program for bold, creative women. Haley has been reading some Shirley Jackson lately and recommends 'We Have Always Lived in the Castle' You should also check it out if you feel like being thoroughly creeped out.

This week we're chatting about the first real Buffy/Angel crossover ep, "The Harsh Light of Day." Spike is back in Sunnydale, Parker the Human Dumpster Fire shows his true colors, and Harmony is just delightful.

This week we're talking about the awfulness of pre-internet dating (and apparently dating in LA in general) in Angel episode 102, "Lonely Hearts" For more Hot Chicks with[out] Superpowers check out: Hannah just watched Beauty and the Beast (NOT the feminist plug) and really admired the fabulous costume work of Jacqueline Durran - something the Academy has done for years. Haley has been enjoying the works of author Sarah Waters (Fingersmith, Tipping the Velvet) whose novels focus on LGBT women in Victorian society. Thanks to her Buffy-induced Hulu subscription, Emily has been watching the cop satire Angie Tribeca staring the ever-hilarious Rashida Jones.

This week we're chatting about Buffy's evil roommate, her slow descent into madness, and more exciting details of Giles' personal life in episode 402, "Living Conditions" For more Hot Chicks with[out] Superpowers check out: Emily has been enjoying HBO's "Big Little Lies" with a thoroughly lady-filled powerhouse cast. Hannah is returning to the work of artist/activist/badass Maya Lin, specifically her newest memorial, 'What is Missing' a tribute to extinct species everywhere.  Haley is listening to a new podcast, "Science Vs." hosted by science journalist Wendy Zukerman  

This week we're starting Buffy's greatest spinoff series, Angel (though we're still rooting for Ripper). We're chatting about the dark and depressing portrayal of LA, how excited we are to see Cordelia again, and learn what it's like to hear David Boreanaz deliver consecutive sentences! This week we're getting into Season 4 of Buffy as the Scoobies acclimate to life at UC Sunnydale, Giles has one hell of a personal life, and Pedro Pascal tragically gets turned into a vamp in episode 401, "The Freshman" For more Hot Chicks with[out] Superpowers check out: Emily has been re-watching VEEP on HBO, a show about how things in Washington really get done starring Seline Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) as the Vice President. Hannah just watched 'Logan', the latest installment in the X-Men series and is super excited about the appearance of Laura (Dafne Keen) a young Spanish-American actress who kills it as Wolverines protegee. Haley is reading 'Margaret the First: A Novel" by Danielle Dutton about the life of Margaret Cavendish, one of Europe's first published female authors 

This week we're wrapping up season 3 with a tearful (non)goodbye from Angel, a comatose Faith, and an epic battle leading to the literal end of Sunnydale High School in episode 322, "Graduation Day" For more Hot Chicks with[out] Superpowers check out: Emily has recently re-watched the YA gem, "Princess Diaries" starring Ann Hathaway and Julie Andrews as a newly crowned princess learning the ropes from her deeply fabulous grandmother Haley has recently finished "The OA" starring Brit Marling (also the badass lady creator and executive producer) and suggest you all check it out Hannah has been obsessing over Entertainment Weekly's recent 'Buffy' photo shoot, specifically the shots of Charisma Carpenter. She's a nerdy mom, but also looks exactly the same 20 years later...

This week we're covering the first half of the season finale including a beautiful moment between Willow and Oz, a controversial use of 'lover' and the epic Buffy/Faith battle in epsiode 312, 'Graduation Day' For more Hot Chicks with[out] Superpowers check out: Emily has been watching 'Man in the High Castle' on Netlflix and really enjoying the (creepy) alternate past and performance by Alexa Davalos as Juliana Crane Hannah has been watching Archer season 7 and loving the performance by the high esteemed Jessica Walter (also Lucille Bluth in Arrested Development) Haley has been enjoying the miniseries 'Rebellion' covering the event surrounding the 1916 Easter Rebellion 

This week Emily's sister Kendall is joining us once again to basically weep: Buffy is saving the Prom, Xander is a shining example of a human (Cordelia is just shining) and everyone is finally honoring our Class Protector. Hannah is reminiscing about Madeleine L'engle (Wrinkle in Time and other YA books) and very much looking forward to the new film adaptation with Oprah and a number of other awesome ladies. Haley has been reading 'Akata Witch' by Nnedi Okorafor (more YA) a Nigerian-American author putting out some serious Harry Potter magical-esque vibes. Kendall is reading 'The Girls' by Emma Kline; a first novel from a stupendous new author dealing with a classic coming-of-age story in a cult.   

This week we're chatting about some concerning concerning college application processes, Oz's completely brilliant problem-solving, and a really fucking creepy box in episode 319, "Choices"

This week we're taking a break from Season 3 to reminisce about some of our favorite Buffy moments, shout out to some awesome cast interviews and think pieces, and generally celebrate 20 years of slaying. Haley has been reading "The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl" the most recent Marvel re-boot written by Ryan North and illustrated by Erica Henderson about a super heroine with all the powers of...a squirrel. And it's amazing.

Haley has been enjoying Roxane Gay, including hallmark works like "Bad Feminist," and her own reading recommendations. Emily wants to shout out to Rebekah Isaacs, the latest illustrator of the Buffy & Angel comic books and hopes you all check out her amazing work.

Hannah has been amazed by Marley Dias of 1000 Black Girl Books, a non-profit looking to increase diversity in school libraries (run by an 11-year-old more accomplished than most adults) Haley wants to wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day and hopes you all shout out to the folks in your life who are doing awesome work

This week we're toeing the line between a good Slayer soldier and a Faith, debating the usefulness of nunchucks against vampire, and dealing with some real fighting fallout in episode 314, "Bad Girls" For more Hot Chicks With[out] Superpowers check out: Haley has been reading "Handmaidens Tale" in preparation for the upcoming Netflix series (although it feels alarmingly prescient these days). Emily has been re-watching "West Wing" and wants to shout-out to all the amazing ladies of that show, with a special nod to C. J. Craig Hannah in a completely non-cop-out-way wants to shout-out to all of the ladies out there; y'all are doing amazing work and we hope you keep it up.

This week we're chatting about a Xander-centric episode (Haley's favorite) as we debate the practical application of a wheel man in the Scoobies, the source of Oz's coolness, and the priorities of undead bros. Hannah just picked up "You Can't Touch My Hair" by Phoebe Robinson (of Two Dope Queens fame) and is super psyched to read about race, feminist, and U2. Haley has been watching "A Series of Unfortunate Events" on Netflix and is loving the portrayal of Violet (Malina Weissman), the oldest child and a strong-willed inventor (not the super nerdy one).
