Thanks to Victor Gamboa for eventually responding to my pleas in the night and recommending Frank Miller's The Spirit. Worst luck, though: just yesterday I was standing with elbow on appropriately-positioned stool saying I'd give everyone a million dollars if Frank Miller made a weird pastiche of his most famous film with none of the class, depth or Robert Rodriguezes; not only was everyone in the whole world in the room with me, but they put it on Space YouTube for all the aliens to see.
