First, the God of Israel is the One True God. Second, he is the greater party in this covenant extending his protection, favor, guidance, and provision to his people. At the time of their writing, Israel was under swift by Babylon. Their nation conquered. Their Temple and Holy City burned. And yet, they were being called to look expectantly for their redemption. “And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.'”‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:21‬ ‭ESV‬‬When we consider the overall message of this verse in light of Peter’s sermon in Acts 2, and the prophecy of Joel that he is quoting, we learn that this is more than a cry for salvation - it is an oath of allegiance. And by grace we have been redeemed and seated as the Body of Messiah in the heavenly realms. And as a result, we are to live selfless, humble, giving, submissive, and obedient lives.
