The Hoover Dam conception, construction, workforce abuse and legacy
11/09/2018 Duración: 12s* This episode was archived June 2019 and is only available for subscribers Sam talks Hoover Dam conception, construction, workforce abuse and legacy. Hoover dam was created to control the mighty Colorado river which constantly flooded and to provide irrigation water for the west of America. It was paid for by creating electricity using this massive dam and accompany hydro-electrical station It was built using a competitive tender process and the cheapest tender won. The building contractor, a consortium of building contractors ruthlessly exploited the desperate great depression manual labour pool. They hired Frank Crowe a very talented engineer who in my opinion tarnished any legacy he had by working the men in terrible conditions including tunnels full of carbon monoxide and 365 days per year working. Complain and you don't have a job. Hope he enjoyed his massive bonus before he died eleven years later. Is the money worth it? And the workers? How desperate do you have to be? Did they need to go to nearby l

He works as a financial advisor and has wrote books and appeared as a television presenter. I am writing today about the property fund he set up and the lessons we can learn from it. It was a property fund which raised 13million euros from small investors. There were 700 investors, the three co-founders invested 600,000 each so that suggests an average investment of 16,000 each. The non-executive directors were Hobbs and senior counsel Dermot Flanagan, while its executive directors were former Deloitte corporate financier Hugh O’Neill and developer Vincent Regan, its managing director. It was called Brendan Investments Pan European Property (bipep) and managed by brendan investments plc who were the four investors who were getting a 1% fee. Kevin McCloud And Grand Designs
31/07/2018 Duración: 12s* This episode was archived June 2019 and is only available for subscribers I always thought I didn't like Kevin McCloud from Grand Designs because he seemed to be a man of privilege finding his way into a cushy presenting job of a popular national tv show. But the more I watched of him in video I realised this was my prejudice and the more I watch of the guy the more I realise he is just a normal human being who enjoys design and construction and isn't really into the construction or commercial side of things. Its easy to look at a figure 'from the tv' and label them. I come from the commercial side of construction, property development and investment but I do love design and I enjoy watch Kevin's iconic program 'Grand Designs' I take a quick look at Kevin's life and the content of the show and look at its affect on the middle class in the UK making them desire a certain lifestyle that maybe should be well beyond their reach. I like the show and it's structure but I do wonder whether lots of people who shou
