Holiday season is in full swing and due to family, marketing, and media, you may feel the pull to have a partner during this time (Google “Cuffing Season”). In this episode, Jernell and Shanika dissect when the difference between being content and when you are settling and why it is ok to take a break from your partner (or family!) during the holidays. Shanika talks about possibly being open to marriage again (say wha?) and Jernell explains why she is taking a break from the dating apps (for now) and how this leads to Shanika taking herself on a Solo Date. We also discuss clearing out the clutter, complacency, and comparison. This time of the year also brings a lot of “last quarter let’s get it attitude” and sometimes this can set you up for failure. In The Final Girl Support Group, Grady Hendrix explores the side of these survivors that aren’t seen by the public. Brindolyn and Shanika discuss what they like about the book, analyze how each final girl chooses their own coping mechanism, why having an unstable narrator worked, and how the death of a certain character may seem tone-death. We got to interview one of our favorite Yogis, Sara Clark. Sara Clark is an international vinyasa yoga and meditation teacher. With nearly two decades of experience, Sara’s teachings merge the physical and spiritual practices of yoga with mindfulness and meditation techniques that help to ease suffering and liberate the soul. She has been a Global Yoga Ambassador for lululemon and has graced the cover of Yoga Journal twice along with Prevention Magazine. Sara has created a series of online yoga and meditation videos for Shape Magazine, Yoga Today, and Glo. Bevy gives the readers insight into her life, growing up in Harlem, Lill’ Brown Bevy, her Lovers (ready for that book, Bevy!), not listening to the opinions of the outside world, navigating the fashion and business world as a Black woman, and situations that led her to certain decisions (even when she felt deep down it might not be the best choice. We talk about how this book came into our lives at the right time as were both trying to re-discover and get back to Lil Brown Shanika and Lil Brown Jernell.
