In today’s message, Derek confronts us with situations in the life of both Abraham and Jacob to illustrate the principles of yielding—to God and to man. It will help to bring clarity to this topic—for making application to your own life. Learning to yield can bring you into your inheritance in God.

Derek challenges us today with the words of Jesus: “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” Today Derek presents the practical ways in which we can do this. Are you willing?

The strength of God comes to us only through the cross of Jesus Christ. A divine exchange took place on the cross—Jesus was wounded on our behalf, took the evil and the curse and ultimately died our death that we might receive the good that was due to His sinless obedience.

We will find ourselves on a slippery slope if we once start ignoring those who are weak among us—those who are disabled, unwanted, infirm, unable to care for themselves. Instead, we who are strong ought to bear the weakness of those who lack strength. Where do you stand on this issue?

There’s a tremendous gap that man cannot bridge between the level of God’s ways and thoughts and the level of what humankind can comprehend. But there is a way we can know God better. His thoughts have been brought down to our earthly level. Derek explains how.

In this week’s final study Derek looks at a woman whose daughter was demon possessed. This mother’s faith and desperation obtained deliverance from Jesus. She knew that by Jewish law she was unclean, but from a position of humility she approached Jesus, begging for just one crumb, and reached His heart of compassion. In like humility and faith, we need to approach the Lord for our households.

Derek looks at the courage and faith of Rahab the prostitute in her obedience to tie the scarlet cord in her window. She also convinced her family to come stay in her house in order to be saved. Though she came from a life of darkness, her faith became an example for New Testament writers, and her life was changed in such a great way that her name appears in the lineage of David and Jesus.

In today’s study we look at the faith of Job for his children. It’s important for us to know God’s assessment of Job and the outcome of his endurance. In considering this story of Job Derek lists three lessons for parents: To teach your children the way of the Lord, pray for them, and set a godly example.

Today Derek looks at Abraham and his example as a father. God knew that Abraham would command his children to keep the ways of the Lord. This principle carries on through Deuteronomy, Psalms, and Proverbs. The requirement and responsibility for the family rest primarily on the father. The benefit is that the whole family will be blessed.

In this week’s series, Derek points out the necessity of believing God for the salvation of your household, giving advice to NOT lose the joy of your salvation, NOT give in to discouragement, and to always lean on the Scriptures. By way of example, Derek presents the fact that through the righteousness of Noah, his whole family was saved. Joshua also spoke for his family, when he testified that they would all serve the Lord.

Derek finishes this week discussing how our will must be submitted to God’s will—even before we know just what that is. As we commit ourselves to this, God will unfold His will and it will be our place to walk it out, as Jesus did, and thus glorify God in our lives.

Today Derek looks at how Jesus resolutely set His face to go to Jerusalem where He knew His crucifixion awaited. He knew this was His Father’s will and that suffering and death were to be the way. But through it all, redemption for mankind would be accomplished. Jesus knew what He had to do, and did not turn from it.

To illustrate Jesus’ commitment to God’s will a little further, Derek points to His willingness to set aside His own will —no matter what that may have been —and do His father’s will instead. This death to self brings life to others. Jesus always looked to the end of something, the finished work He saw set before Him.

Today we look at some events in the life of Jesus where He practically worked out His commitment to do God’s will, and the results that followed. Jesus experienced physical restoration and a proper vision of the situation in his encounter with the woman at the well. His judgment was just because He sought God’s will first and so received discernment.

This week Derek asks us if we know what God has planned as our objective for living. He looks at the supreme example of Jesus—what motivated Him to fulfill God’s plan, that which was written about Him in Scripture. Derek then shows how our motivation should be the same, to find and do God’s will for us.

In concluding this week’s teaching, Derek stresses that same elements that were in the early church are for the church today, both collectively and individually. We have a King who is coming back and it is up to us to proclaim that Jesus is alive, ruling in our midst. As we do, the Holy Spirit will confirm our witnessing with power.

Today we look at what the return of Jesus meant to the believers of the early church. Derek points to their motivation in preparing for Him —joy in having done their task, being blameless and holy, looking forward to their reunion with others who had died. Because of His return, there would be a higher plane and future age.

The early church proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God —that Jesus was resurrected as King. This didn’t sit well with the political and religious leaders of that time and continuously caused problems. The real problem, though, was that the church was right and the religious leaders needed to listen and to bow their knees.

Today Derek speaks on the supernatural power the church received when the Holy Spirit was poured out. A whole new way of praying and preaching began. Praying that shook buildings and got results. Preaching that was done in power and conviction. The normal Christian life was a supernatural life!

This week Derek looks at the first church to see what our God-given standard should be. Today he focuses on what it is to be a witness. From personal experience the apostles told what they knew about the resurrection of Jesus and what it meant to them. This is what someone who has encountered the living Christ can do —tell others about their own personal experience with Him.
