Meghan Murphy is back on the show to discuss how elements of the left will not stand for her pure version of being a feminist. Meghan is very well known in the feminist movement, having started Feminist Current in 2012, Canada's leading feminist website. She now speaks to large crowds and is often protested by people within the trans community who try to shout her down for standing her ground and speaking up for women and free speech. My guest this week is Alex Epstein, author of the book, "The Moral Case For Fossil Fuels". Alex is here to do exactly what it sounds like: make the moral case for fossil fuels. Alex brings a refreshing perspective to the topics of global warming, CO2, energy, and so on, in that he uses human life as the standard of value. Alex brings overwhelming evidence that mankind's use of fossil fuels is supremely virtuous because using fossil fuels transforms our environment to make it wonderful for human life. The Green Movement puts human life way behind "untouched nature", and in more cases than not, they will be quite honest about the low value they place on human life. My guest this week is Mises Institute Senior Fellow and Austrian Economist, Dr Mark Thornton. Mark discusses the economic downturn we are currently in, and it's one that he and many other Austrian economists predicted. It wasn't caused by the coronavirus, although the virus may have been the straw that broke the camel's back. The symptoms of this bust have been in place much longer than the symptoms of the coronavirus. The fundamentals were weak, and the Federal Reserve, as usual, is the problem, not the cure. Dr. Thornton details what went wrong, what will make it worse, the systemic damage that the shutdown is causing, and the long term effects of this all. My guest today is Cato Institute Senior Fellow, Doug Bandow. Doug wrote a recent article called, "Now's the Time to Become a Truly 'America First' Military". This coronavirus mess has not only caused an economic shut down and disaster, but congress has voted to spend trillions of dollars to help "fix" things. We now know that drastic changes at the federal level will be necessary. There is simply not enough money for grandiose ideas at that level, so it's now time to end the wars and start pulling the troops home... from everywhere. We couldn't afford the global military adventures before. We certainly can't afford them now. So it is time to do what people like Ron Paul and Pat Buchanan have been saying for years: bring the troops home and defend the United States from home. The "neocons" as they're called, have had a heavy hand in promoting disastrous foreign policy decisions over the decades, most notably the Iraq wars. Every policy they favor seems to turn out badly, yet their influence is still there. Where and how did they originate? Why are they called "conservative" when they're really anything but? My guest today is journalist and author Peter Van Buren. Peter has fought hard for the principle of free speech. Peter worked for the State Department for 24 years, including a stint in Iraq. When his book, "We Meant Well: How I Helped Lose the Battle for the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People", was released, the US Government came after him, claiming that he published classified material. Peter also wrote articles for the left-leaning publication, "The Nation", until they weren't happy that he was writing articles promoting free speech, and they stopped accepting his articles. However, The American Conservative does still appreciate his stance on unfettered free speech. This is a microcosm of a cultural shift, in general. The modern left has vocally come out against free speech and the modern right has embraced it. We get into this topic along with discussing Peter's excellent work on the Russiagate saga.
