A first role with a small pirate station in Waterford, 'Crystal Radio' at the age of just 15 led to studies in the UK and eventually roles with various BBC regional stations and independent stations including GM of 'The Wolf' in Wolverhampton. He returned to Waterford to set up Ireland's first ever youth station, Beat 102-103 in 2003. In 1963, the Jetland Ballroom opened its doors and operated for 20 glorious years hosting huge acts including Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, The Everly Brothers as well as the biggest showbands of the time. Paddy, the author of 'Limerick Music Throughout the Decades' shared his memories of the ballroom including meeting his wife at the famous venue.   • Mary Elmes, the Cork woman who saved 432 children during WW2

    In this episode I chat with author Clodagh Finn and Deirdre Waldron about the incredible life of Cork woman, Mary Elmes who passed away in 2002 at 92 years of age. Clodagh is the author of "A time to risk all" and she tells us about Mary's unthinkable bravery as she rescued 432 children from prison camps during the Spanish Civil War and World War 2. Mary, who has recently been honoured in Cork with a new bridge in her name was educated in Trinity College and then the London School of Economics. She volunteered to work in hospitals in Spain and France, which led her on a path that had her caring for children in camps and rescuing many.
