He began a cancer research centre in Cork, focusing on the hardest to solve problems and creating a model that brought front line doctors and researchers together. Sadly, Gerry passed away himself from cancer, and his daughter Orla continues to oversee his work by fundraising and instigating research, which is already making significant breakthroughs.
