It turns out that her work could solve a huge problem, which is a serious threat to one third of the world's food supply. Dr. Fiona Edwards Murphy is now the CEO of her company ApisProtect, which has just announced a unique partnership with Inmarsat, the giant satellite communications company. In this episode Greg chats with David Sands about his grandmother, Henrietta and his mother Gemma Sands about their incredible bravery at this perilous time. We also talk about the deep scars that this time left with the family, including his father Kenneth Sands who was a stretcher bearer during the war. Sam Derry WW2 Hero - The Rome Escape Line

Sam Derry, a Lieutenant Colonel in the British Army was one of the key figures who along with Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty were part of the 'Rome Escape Line', which kept 6,500 POWs and civilians safe from the Nazis during WW2 in Rome. Sam left his pregnant wife and the family business behind to embark on a fascinating period of his life, which included being captured by the Germans twice, two escapes, the death of a child he never had the chance to meet and working closely with an Irish priest and with Winston Churchill after the war. They tell his incredible war story and the hero who came home, the adjustments to civilian life, the post war traumas and being honoured by his country and on the 'This Is Your Life' show. They left New York, six years later on Valentines Day, 1963 on a ship to return home, after a fantastic adventure in the "City that never sleeps". Working and living in New York, drafted into the American Army, the music of Paul Anka, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis and the Rat Pack, Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, playing soccer with the Newark Portuguese and a new young President called John F.Kennedy. Transforming UCC in the seventies, eighties and nineties with the former President, Professor Michael Mortell

His father died when he was just five years of age and Michael found that he had to dig a little deeper, and try a little harder to succeed in every walk of life. He succeeded on the hurling field and he succeeded in academia earning scholarships to UCC and the much revered Caltech in Los Angeles. In Michael's time, he relentlessly drove UCC forward, raising the standards, the facilities and the profile of the university in Ireland and internationally. When he walked into UCC as a student in 1958 it was effectively a large school and when he left it was the equivalent of a large town! Enjoy the show!
