  • Peter Drucker quote on effectiveness

    06/02/2019 Duración: 01min

There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently something that should not have been done at all - Peter Drucker --------------- In so many cases, companies try to continually improve the efficiency of their processes, instead of asking the harder question of whether the outcome of the processes is still worthwhile at all. When starting out an innovation process, you can ask yourself if it is better to focus on: Efficiency: By improving your processes and structures to achieve more with less (usually as a cost-cutting measure, and often to the detriment of innovation) Effectiveness: By doing the things which will provide your current and future customers with more value, even if they are different from your current offering. • Ugly babies - Why all ideas are born imperfect

    05/02/2019 Duración: 03min

Why is it that even though you think that your idea is amazing, other people aren't as enthusiastic? ------------------------ Ugly Baby Syndrome is the tendency for parents to think that their child is beautiful, even if a stranger would not agree. In the context of innovation and creativity, it refers to situations when an entrepreneur might think that they have an amazing idea, or have developed an amazing new product, but feedback from other people is not quite as positive (or people just don't buy it...). 30/01/2019 Duración: 02min

Why are blank pages so scary? What causes writer's block? While there have not been that many academic studies on the causes of writer's block, there are likely three main components which contribute: * The way the brain forms new idea through combinations, and the required triggers which a blank page does not provie * Self Judgement that an idea is not good enough when it is originally formed * Self-imposed inflexible rules and plans as to how the creative process should work To read the full article on what causes writer's block and how to overcome it, go to https://www.ideatovalue.com/inno/nickskillicorn/2019/01/the-tyranny-of-the-blank-page-how-to-get-over-writers-block/  Bonus: This episode was made possible by our premium innovation and creativity training. • Why is Disney relying on remakes instead of producing original movies

    24/01/2019 Duración: 07min

The HiPPO: Highest Paid Person’s Opinion. • Why most innovation and creativity training are NOT designed to deliver results

    12/01/2019 Duración: 07min

Read the full article at https://www.ideatovalue.com/inno/nickskillicorn/2019/01/why-most-innovation-and-creativity-training-are-not-designed-to-deliver-results/ to understand why most innovation and creativity trainers don't actually care about the results for your business. --------------------- This has been something that has bothered me for all of the years I have been in this industry. It is the difference between what counts as success for you and your business, and what counts as success for the facilitators which many companies bring in to "Do Innovation" or "Build team creativity" for a day. Most “innovation” and “creativity” training and workshops (even the most expensive ones) don’t actually produce any tangible results! They usually fall into two types: Motivational “teambuilding” sessions, where a speaker will tell you how creative visionaries like Steve Jobs or Albert Einstein overcame obstacles to change the world (without giving you any advice on how you can do this in addition to your day j

  • S2E25: Nick White - How Deloitte Assist innovated healthcare through voice control

    11/11/2018 Duración: 21min

In today's episode of the Idea to Value podcast, we speak with Nick White from Deloitte Sydney about a new innovation which has been receiving a lot of attention, called "Deloitte Assist". Deloitte Assist is a way for patients in a hospital to ask for help using their voice, so that nurses and doctors know exactly what the patient needs before arriving at their bedside. Historically, and still the case in most hospitals, the only way that a patient has to ask for help or attention is a button to press next to their bed. This could be help for anything from being in pain, to having fallen and being seriously injured, to wanting something to drink or asking for the TV channel to be changed. Not all requests are as urgent as others. Deloitte Assist was conceived after a Deloitte partner saw how his father suffered while he was in a critical condition in hospital, and asked himself if there was a better way to help both the patients and those attending to them. The solution uses Amazon's voice recognition feature
