In Luke 2 we experience the birth of Jesus and the message of angels to some specific shepherds outside Bethlehem about the good news and great joy that come to all mankind through His birth.

As we follow Luke’s gospel a second birth announcement comes from Gabriel. This time we meet a young girl in Nazareth named Mary. In this message we find that, like Mary, each of us who trust in God’s grace are highly favored.

This message looks at how God is setting the stage for the birth of the Messiah by fulfilling prophecy in the Old Testament- a forerunner for the Messiah. We also explore how to trust God’s sovereign plan and remain faithful when He doesn’t act in the way or the timeframe we would want.

The first four verses of Luke’s gospel give us insight into why he wrote the book and what he hopes to accomplish as we study it. As we enter the Advent season we see that there is a certainty in what we believe about the events of the first Christmas that goes beyond blind faith.
