Gleaning insight from 1 Corinthians 13 as we launch into our focus on the greatest of these, love. Love is the solution to every situation and need that we face.

Jesus is Lord - eternal and glorious and seated on the throne. All that we have learned about God through his names are contained within our Savior, Jesus. He is Lord. He is King. He is our Shepherd. He is our Provider. He is our Peace. He is our All-Sufficient One. He is the God Most High, Eternal, Everlasting God.

El Elyon - God Most High and El Olam - God Eternal. The eternal age to come is at hand - we are living in the already launched Kingdom through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, yet look forward to its final consummation where death is fully and finally swallowed up in victory.

God is calling us to understand that our hope IN must be in him. Not in ourselves. Not in other people. Not in false gods. Not in money. Not in our intellect. Not in our advanced knowledge. Not in our athleticism. Not in our government. Not in our military. Hope IN the name of the Lord.

Shalom embodies a peace that may differ some from our common assumptions about peace. It is strongly tied to God’s covenant relationship with his people. It is not conceived as anything possible outside of the presence of God - God’s shalom, God’s peace is only experienced in the context of God’s presence. Shalom includes wholeness, health, security, well-being, and salvation. It is a gift of God.

We are going to look at two of God’s names today - El Roi and Jehovah-Raah. Let us not lose hope! We are encouraged over and over again to hope - not in our own strength, not in our own understanding, not in our own wealth, no! But hope in the name of the Lord! And as we do - hope will help us hold on to faith and love, and fill up the reservoir of compassion that our world so desperately needs.

Hope. The scripture helps us when we begin to lose our way, feeling unsure about where our hope should be placed. We hope in His Name! I will hope in your name, for your name is good! The name of the Lord is a strong fortress! the godly run to him and are safe.

I will hope in your name because it’s so good. I will hope in your name because it’s so good. I will hope in your name because it’s so good. The Lord Will Provide. The Lord Will Provide. The Lord Will Provide.

God’s character is that he heals. One of his names is Jehovah-Rapha, the God who Heals. This is revealed in all three persons of the Trinity. Healer is an essential part of God’s character. He heals us of both our physical and emotional needs.

Psalm 52:9 - "And I will hope in your name, for your name is good.” Be encouraged today - if these troubling times have shaken your faith, run to the name of the Lord! If seeds of doubt and unbelief have been scattered in your life, take refuge in the name of the Lord. He is the I AM THAT I AM. The one who has revealed himself through his name, so that we can come to know him and his power.

Today is Pentecost Sunday, and churches around the world are marking this day. As we continue in our series on Hope, this day marks one of the most hopeful events to have ever taken place. I believe God’s word has some help for us. The times are heavy. The issues are thorny and unyielding. The heart cry that I have heard from you is one of ‘How long, oh Lord?’ Don’t lose hope - he hears these cries. He is walking with us, and lighting our way forward with faith, hope and love.

We have hope because Jesus has made the way open for us to enter straight into the presence of God, to be in relationship with God, to live in the power of eternal life in the NOW. We can fully trust him because he has taken hold of us. He is holding on tight to you! Jesus said in John 10:28 that he has given you eternal life, and NO ONE can snatch you out of his hand! I Hope, So I Hold ON! I keep on holding on to the hand that is holding on to me.

Influence is a part of God’s call to us - Jesus said we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We are intended to influence the people in our lives toward Jesus, model living according to Kingdom principles of love, joy, and peace, walk wisely and with integrity. In this season of uncertainty, I want to encourage you today that your influence still matters. In fact, it is more powerful now than ever.

I am going to affirm to you that we have the Blessed Hope of Christ’s return. He has his eye on this earth, he has his heart on you, and he is excited about coming back! We should be looking forward to his return with excitement, anticipation, certainty, knowing that he loves us and is coming back again!

Sometimes adventure comes whether you want it or not. We find ourselves in new territory in 2020, all over the globe; no one currently living has traveled this way before. This is not the time to shift your attention away from the truths of God’s Word. This is not the time to get distracted or go searching off on your own for answers. Follow God’s word, listen for his voice, obey what you know because you’ve learned it while you were camped in safety, you have meditated on God’s promise for years - don’t let go of that hope now!

Hope is meant to sink in. Hope is strong and sturdy. And when we feel like we are in the depths - falling, sinking, under it - hope is there. In fact, it may be that we don’t even experience the fullness of hope unless and until we have gone a little deeper.
