The faith we need to take us through this terrible crisis must be a fully rounded faith, and a completely grounded faith. We need a faith that works in the good times and in the bad. We need a faith that rejoices when we rejoice, and weeps with us when we weep. We can not stop with faith for living; we also must have faith for dying.

Today marked our first Sunday of church online. As we enter a period of uncertainty, the Church of Jesus Christ has the privilege and responsibility to rise up in new and powerful ways. Let Jesus be our model, and let us hold on tight to the hope we have in God!

As we endeavor to build and sustain a transforming community here at Vienna Assembly of God, we must understand that our community life (as a congregation) reverberates out from here to our greater community.

Work was given to man before the entrance of sin. God created us to work. In eternity we will continue to work, without the burdens of sin and fallenness. We cooperate with God in cultivating through all types of work. We bring order out of chaos as we work. We are meant to do this FOR God. To work is intrinsic to being human.

The Good News about Jesus is the power of God at work in me and in you! It is saving everyone who believes. It is by faith, from start to finish. Every aspect of our life is to be lived by faith. It is through faith that a righteous person has life. God has declared you righteous when you receive the Good News of Jesus! We are all part of God’s family, and each of us bear witness to Jesus. One of the most significant ways that we bear witness is through our own family dynamic - whether married or single.

Jesus knows when you’re getting in the car, headed for work, what you are going to face at the office. He understands the climate, the culture, the challenge. And he wants to encourage you - he has sent the Holy Spirit, your advocate, the Spirit of Truth, to help you slice through the fog. To empower you to speak, to act and to live by faith. Jesus gave us the heads up that it would not be easy, so that we will not abandon our faith. And he also promised that he will never leave us, that he is with us until the end of the age. We are not alone!

...In the middle of their fear and anxiety, the disciples went to Jesus, woke him up, and shouted: “Lord, save us!” They went to the right person. They prayed the right prayer! I want to encourage you - even though Jesus responded to them that they had little faith, he still solved the problem! He still answered their request! This is true for you, too. Go to Jesus in the middle of the anxiety, in the middle of the storm.

In 2020, we are focused on principles of God's Kingdom that endure forever. These three remain - faith, hope and love. For the first few weeks, we are learning from what Jesus had to say about faith.

This is the hope of Christmas. The true light that gives light to every one was coming into the world.

Jesus promised - and the angels proclaimed - that he will come back. Even if we don't understand what all this means, let’s start with believing what the angel said: THIS SAME JESUS will return!

Jesus offers a new narrative, a chance to get up and go see this wondrous thing that God has told us about. And once we have our story interrupted with the Good News, we are empowered and sent to share it with everyone else.

Perhaps the phrase most used by angels in the Bible is what we will look at today - DO NOT BE AFRAID.

As we observe Advent, our reflection on the birth of Jesus, the incarnation, is going to center on “Things Angels Say”. We are going to be listening to hear timeless truths that impact our lives, our relationship with God and with each other.

This parable is full of hope - the Word is available and we have the opportunity to choose what kind of hearer we will be.

Jesus responds to the question, "What should I do?" with - "What kind of person are you?" Answer Jesus' call to be the neighbor he has called us to be.
