The Road to Emmaus
26/06/2022 Duración: 46minThe Road to Emmaus Luke 24:13-35 Main Point of the Sermon: The Holy Spirit is the solution to our inability to see and trust the Jesus of the Bible. We’ve come to the final chapter in Luke’s Gospel and nearly to the end of our two year journey as a church through this book. And while these final pages are certainly a testimony of the finished work of Jesus on the cross and the truth of his resurrection, Luke’s major emphasis is on something else: Scripture. This book. He starts his Gospel by telling his readers why he writes, so that “you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught” (1:4). And here, at the end of his writing, he grounds that certainty on the totality of this book. In other words, it’s not just the Gospels that confirm that Jesus is the Savior of the world, but the entire Bible. And I know it can be hard to understand how a book like Leviticus or the Song of Songs could do that, but it does. This is why we need God to teach us today like he d

Not My Will, But Yours, Be Done
08/05/2022Pastor Ross preaches from Luke 22:39-46. Outline: Not My Will, But Yours, Be Done Charlotte and I have the privilege of having our grandmother live with us. Earlier this week, we were driving her to a respite home so she could stay there for the week. My wife wanted my help that morning to get her there, and we hadn’t talked ahead or thought through how transporting her there would work. So, it ended up interrupting my plan for the day. Yet, I thought of a way to kind of keep to my agenda. I would bring my laptop and get the things done I had planned from the passenger seat. Yet, when I went to connect my computer to my phone’s hot spot, I discovered that the new phone plan I had just switched to did not include mobile hot spot. At this moment, I was temptation towards anger and frustration. You would hope that I would respond with maturity, patience, and trust that God was in control. Instead, I become sullen and angry. I pouted the way there and the way back. My wife really said these words to

Learning to Rule with Christ
24/04/2022Learning To Rule With Christ Luke 22:24-30 Main Point of the Sermon: We will reign with Christ, so we must serve like Christ. Introduction My wife and I recently had the privilege of going on a cruise without the kids. It was incredible! And every morning, often late morning, we had a spread of food ready for us to enjoy and an abundance of staff at our beck and call ready to grab whatever we requested as we reclined at our table and gazed at the ocean off the back of the ship. It’s really nice to be served, isn’t it? In fact, many of us spend a lot of mental energy thinking about how to get promoted and earn more so that we can work less and do what we want to do with our time and energy. It’s not my inclination to wake up in the morning, saying, “Yes, I get to change another diaper!” We’d much rather be served. But when we answered the call to follow Christ, it was a call to serve. If you’ve been around All Peoples Church for a while, you may be familiar with our identity statement. We a

Your Redemption is Drawing Near
27/03/2022Ross Tenneson Luke 21:20-28 Summary Text: Luke 21:20-28 MP: Jesus is coming back soon to rule heaven and earth so we should have a sense of assurance rather than distress. Sticky: We remain courageous disciple-makers as the world falls apart. Heading 1 Introduction I remember in the early days of COVID thinking that it was a big exaggeration. Then, I remember reading news stories about people losing their sense of smell and some cognitive function. I wasn’t scared of death because of my age group, but began to have a fear of getting physical complications, possibly life long, if I caught this virus. Around this time, I was in a Target parking lot (when COVID was everywhere in 2020). And a man approached me to ask for some money. He was large and his face was right up in mine and I remember feeling his hot breath against my face and thinking, “I definitely have COVID.” I would wake up several mornings and smell something with a strong smell just to make sure I still had my sense of smell

Not A Hair of Your Head Will Perish
20/03/2022Pastor Daniel preaches from Luke 21:5-19. Not A Hair of Your Head Will Perish Luke 21:5-19 Main Point of the Sermon: We must endure by standing on the promises of Christ. Introduction Pray Human beings avoid risk. But not just physical risk. We tend to avoid almost any confrontation, even an awkward conversation. But Christians throughout history are kind of an anomaly in this area. Christ’s followers have been known to get on ships and planes that take them to remote and unreached areas at great risk to themselves in an effort to preach the saving name of Jesus. In nearly every corner of the earth, Christians have faced danger preaching the Gospel. Even some of our members have moved their families overseas or are preparing now to go. Though it is not usually at risk of our lives, our Missional Community Groups have gone into the Mall of America, into the parks of Minneapolis, into the Somali Mall and onto the streets at risk of being maligned. What gives Christians the peace and boldness
