Blessed are the people who recognize their inadequacies, their guilt, failure, helplessness, unworthiness, and emptiness haunts them and they grieve over their sin.

To be poor in spirit is to recognize your total and complete spiritual bankruptcy before God. It is knowing that you have nothing of worth to contribute to God.

Jesus said, "I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it"

He [Jesus] is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance...

Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness…

Unless we remember that Justification precedes Sanctification and that both are the work of God in and for us - the Sermon on the Mount can leave believers feeling hopelessly discouraged.

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

When Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.

Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.

The Son of God was a preacher! He appointed His twelve apostles to preach. The gospel is a proclamation to be preached.

How can a believer know that they are understanding the Bible correctly? How can we avoid falling into error or being fooled by the devils deceptions?

The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread."

Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.

Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness."

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Matthews account of the first advent includes the horrifying details of King Herod's massacre of the baby boys in and around Bethlehem. It is a fulfillment of prophecy. How are believers to handle difficult passages that reveal truths about God that we would rather not accept?

Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

For your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man. “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.

The Bible teaches the total depravity of the human race; that is, every aspect of our being has been corrupted by sin. Without the coming of the Light we would all remain lost in darkness and dead in our sins.
